not idea for cycling

Bought this pack because it was light and on a really good special.
I wanted something light for summer bicycle commuting when only carrying only a few items. This pack comes in a 10ltr none expandable format. I do believe the new model now has a extra 2 litres (expandable).
The main reason I am disappointed with this pack, is due to the airstream system which has two padded vertical sections with a gap down the centre for cooling. I can't believe this really works, as the gap is so small any gathering in your clothes would block it. The pads are only a centimetre thick. The other problem with this design is when your riding you lean forward and the pack rests on your back. With this system any lumpy items (or a full pack) can be felt on your back. Its quite annoying if riding some distance.
This bag is okay if a few soft items are being tranported or your walking or running (backpack doesn't rest on your back).
The other downside is if you are a bigger person, the shoulder straps may not have enough extension. I am 82kg and 185cm and have the straps at full adjustment. This allows the pack to sit low for cycling.

Storage compartments are not the best design and small items could get lost in the long front pocket with a small zipper access. The top pocket is good with easy access, the only down side is if full the hydration hook is hard to get too. The hydration bladder goes in the main compartment so is not seperate from the storage area. No side belt pockets are fitted and the side drink pockets are quite shallow if using for storing items. Only one hydration hose holder is supplied on the right strap. This is of a velcro design for easy fittment.

The bag is very well made, looks and feels of quality, works well with soft items when not packed full. It is extremely light at just over 500g. In this configuration it suits my application. The backpack is better than most on the market, but is not deuters best for cycling commuting. If using for a combination of cycling, running and walking or for the odd ocasional use on the bike, this bag will be a great item, but for dedicated everyday cycling, deuter have better products in their product range.
very light, well priced
airstream system, not as good as air comfort for cycling, pockets not well designed for access
