Save 40% by booking direct & not using Drive!
I booked 3 days car hire through 'Drive' on a very recent trip to NZ. Upon arriving at the Queenstown Airport Eurocar Office, I found out it would have been around $120 cheaper, if i simply booked it through them, Eurocar!
Paid $41 extra through Drive for the free included, in car navigation!
Paid an additional $80 through Drive for premium insurance cover that would have been completely covered free of charge via my master card!
Disorganised and Incompetent
Took the cheaper option for our recent trip to NZ, big mistake. After waiting for a shuttle for approximately 45 minutes, to take from the Airport to car hire office, we then had the crazy scene of our driver ringing the 2 company offices [apparently linked] to tell them that he was sick of answering their phones and could they please attend to this. All done on a mobile phone while driving. When we got to the office which was shared with FlyAway Auckland, I was told that Drive NZ was through the door on the other side, which it turned out was ...a rudimentary office space without anybody in it. After waiting 10 minutes I went back to the other office and asked where the people were, he went out the side door and called in an attendant who'd been in the car park smoking and talking. After more delays we finally got the car plus the additional sat/nav [we paid extra for] and set off for Taupo. The sat/nav maps apparently had not been upgraded to include a 10 year old expressway so we meandered through some very small back roads and farm tracks finally reaching our destination 2.5 hours later than we would have taking the expressway. No one was present at the office when we returned the car so the complaint concerning the inefficient equipment was handled by the FlyAway staff, with a dismissive, I'll let them know. Completely unsatisfactory. Next time we will book a car from AVIS at the Airport which will cost about $50 more and save about 6 hours of our holiday time.
