Avoid At All Cost - Not Comprehensive At All
I bought two policies for my rental vehicles in Tasmania, thinking that it was comprehensive. When I returned the rental vehicles, there was a minor scratch on the side, and I was charged for the polishing, which is fair. When I submitted this as a claim, I realised that the call centre (?) or processing centre was overseas and the claims process required one to submit every single document via the dated claims portal. After several rounds of back-and-forth involving them insisting that a certain document was insufficient proof etc., they final...ly agreed to reimburse the amount, but I found out then that they did not cover any administrative fees charged by the rental company. This was NOT explicitly mentioned, and is deceiving at best. Definitely not comprehensive in my opinion. I do not recommend them as an insurer.
Do not do it
This 'coverage' is NOT coverage at all. It requires Police reports (not done in Australia unless DAMAGE is over $5K) , they are overseas based , do not return calls and use email only which has a 5 day wait EACH TIME! They are not linked to the hire car company in any way , shape or form. They are sold as an agent so dont contact the internet company as it isnt their product. The FEES you will pay are the same as the Excess costs if you reduced it in store anyway. Then you get the INTEREST on you credit card , overdraw fees and the debt collectors to boot. In store the price was $25 / day , this on line broker was $23 / ay yet I have to pay the same excess and fees and interest. Dont do it ...
Not Worth It
I bought an Insurance for rental car excess cover from this company which came as a pop up when I was hiring a car on the internet. This company claims to be a "low cost alternative" to the excess cover charged by the hire companies themselves. My experience so far, after being involved in an accident I had to pay the hire company the excess. Willing to accept this as I knew I had cover and thought if I provided the information then DriveEasy would refund what I had paid. No, they are claiming that as my hire company is going for third party c...laim, I will be refunded by the hire company themselves. I am so far 12 weeks out of more than $2000. Surprisingly on reading my policy there is no statement that you will have to pay out money and may wait a while for it to be refunded. There is also no clear guidance that DriveEasy do not pay out if the rental company go for third party claim. The communication method is via an email system with a 5 working day wait at least before you get a reply. Your messages are answered by a variety of persons thus there is not one case manager dealing with your claim. Not worth it as it is not a "low cost alternative" as stated. I strongly recommend to take out the excess cover from the hire company directly.
