Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal
The Dyson "Big Ball" is just that:
Big. Heavy. Cumbersome. Obstinate.
This machine replaced an original 'Dyson Ball' which was a beautiful machine.
Then Dyson "fixed something that wasn't broken" and invented the 'Big Ball'.
This thing is like dragging a medicine ball around.
Not only on carpet, but especially also on timber, tiled, or any smooth floor.
The wheel mechanism has a momentary prolapse in concentration, and has to be coaxed along, only by dragging on the hose....
2nd review after owning for 6 months
I was happy at first, but its crap I actually hate it,
My machine doesn't pick up like my old vaccum (bosch) the hole to vaccum is too small, its like you have to pick up every little thing before u vaccum then it still gets blocked all the time, I have girls so I vaccum a lot of hair it always blocks the vaccum, no matter what head I have on it.
It already stopped working once already (but dyson does have excellent customer service and it was fixed)
But I just don't like it, I feel it is not strong enough suction, like I was used with my old...

Not a good choice
Too heavy and cumbersome to move. End up carrying it around the house - which is not ideal. Worst point is that it does not actual suck up the dirt. It kind of pushes everything around and ends up with in clumps, which I guess is easier to pick up. I have no idea why people rave over this brand. Could not be more disappointed.
Purchased in September 2020.
I am so disappointed with this vacuum. It pushes the dirt around on hard surfaces and any hair it picks up from the carpet gets stuck in the brush head. I have to disassemble during and after each use to cut the hair from the brush and remove dust blocked in the tube. When I called Dyson they tried to imply that having three girls with long hair was abnormal and then tried to tell me that cleaning out the brush and tube during and after each use was the normal maintenance procedure for this vacuum. This to me is a faulty machine, but when sent ...away to test, it just came back saying they couldn’t find a fault. Is it tested on a bald bachelor? They then tried to tell me it was up to the retail store I bought it from to refund me but of course the retail store tell me it’s up to Dyson, so no one is willing to take responsibility and I’m left with a product that is totally useless to me.
Motors in these are absolute rubbish
My Dyson Animal lasted two years. It's use has been household carpet and vinyl flooring. A few days ago the unit started producing a screaming sound which I took to be a bearing failure. I fitted a new motor and. Upon examining the old motor found the end cap on the motor housing had fatigued totally and allowed the amature to contact the outer section. The casing is unbelievably thin.

Do Not Buy Dyson, Never again Dyson
Never again Dyson. We have exhausted our patience with our Dyson cinetic big ball animal pro. Have been loyal Dyson customers for nearly 20 years, this is our 3rd Dyson vacuum, but the Animal Pro vacuum has too many faults, extremely disappointing for a very expensive machine, one would expect total reliability, but it is definitely not fit for purpose, does not do what it is advertised to do, that is to vacuum up dog hair. We bought the Dyson cinetic big ball Animal Pro because we wanted the Dyson pet groom attachment tool. Issues include but...not limited to not picking up dog hair, the reason vacuum was specifically purchased for, just blows dog hair up in air. Dog hair sticks to wand from static, resulting in continually having to turn off to wipe hair off wand to feed into vacuum. Does not vacuum up dust and hair off dry tiled floor. Does not collect dust and hair evenly in barrel, but sticks to top of barrel, which makes emptying messy. Barrel doesn’t fully empty, the clips on the barrel don’t secure properly thus spills contents back on to clean floor requiring the floors to be vacuumed again. I have emailed Dyson to advise them of these problems, that the Animal Pro is not fit for purpose and would appreciate a refund or replacement. Dyson have requested I send the Animal Pro to their service centre, but because of this costly exercise we do not wish to spend any more money on their inferior vacuum. We informed Dyson of our loyal customer of nearly 20 years with serial no of 1st purchase of DCO5 that was recalled by Dyson in 2006 due to Electrical Safety Recall. Then we paid Dyson additional money to upgrade to Dyson DC23. But Dyson are not interested in repaying out loyalty, but intent on insisting we return the Animal Pro for servicing, despite the faults not being serviceable. Dyson have forever lost our custom, we will now be replacing with another brand.

I miss my old Dyson
After owning a Dyson for 12 years why would I buy anything else... I was excited to see the benefits of 12 years of R&D how sad it was to go so far backwards and wish I never upgraded. The dust lid doesn't always lock properly and spills dust when you remove it, it is hard to move around especially doors, the attachments are always clogged and had to buy special tooling to disassemble clean the dust and hair from the belt and cogs in the head myself instead of always sending it back for repair. My Wife prefers using my $90 Bunnings shop vacuum as it does a better job.
Don't buy into the Dyson hype
The suction levels on the vacuum are poor - refer video. On timber floors it won't pick up anything larger than a grain of rice on first sweep. I have to pick up multiple items by hand as it's faster than moving the vacuum head back and forth again and again. The on/off and cord retractor buttons seem to be fagile, however in fairness I could be wrong. But their size and placement make it difficult to use anything but hands. When emptying the vacuum it has opened unexpectedly on multiple occasions, dumping dust on clean floors. And its quite difficult to get the bottom door of the dust receptacle to stay closed. It's truly awful!
Purchased in September 2019 for A$799.00.
Love this vaccuum
Ive had my dyson vacuum for 3 years now. Perfect for all floors, including carpets. I have 2 dogs, and small childern. No issues picking up mess. Does need cleaned put regularly though!
It's good but not great.
It looks flash.
It has reasonable suction.
It's not too noisy.
It has no bags.
It has a lot of accessories.
Power cord is too short (true off all 3 powered dysons I already own).

Good enough suction, but don’t buy because you loved the Dyson Classic.
I bought this because I absolutely loved my Dyson Classic, which was starting to die after 16 years. What a let down! The techie guys at Dyson obviously thought they were making design improvements, but have failed miserably.
There is only one handle, compared to the Classic, which means that if you dock the wand before you pick up the entire unit, you invariable get clonked in the head.
The ball wheels I initially thought were pretty good, but have since realised that on corners, where the straight wheels hit the skirting boards, this one impa...
Worst Vacuum Cleaner I have ever owned - don't waste your money
I used to be a huge Dyson fan. I would rave about their products to everyone. This was about 10 years ago or so. Now they have moved their factories to Asia I wonder if this is why the quality has gone down.
This vacuum cleaner is a monumental waste of money.
I will list why:-
1) The ball design doesn't aid with maneuverability. It's just as heavy an cumbersome to drag around like any regular brick style vacuum cleaner. It kills my back dragging this thing around the house. The wheels only run in one direction (backwards and fowards) so don't ...

Don't Waste Your Money
I saved my money to by this product as it was all that you heard was the best brand money could buy. I had purchased a Miele cat and dog previously but was sick and tired of having to buy bags for it . So I changed. What a terrible decision that was. The first time I used it fabulous heavy duty suction. Then the next time a bit less and within a month no better than the cheap vacuums. So disappointed with this as I spent a lot of money on it. Will never buy another Dyson product overated.
Dyson for BIG Family
I use the vacuum over different types of flooring - tiles and carpet
I have found that it is fantastic depending on which head you use. The one that is standard works reasonably ok.
It is definitely the best vacuum I have used but for the money...........it could be better
Clip on the barrel always gets stuck after emptying the barrel and I have to hold down clip to close barrel. Multi floor head works good on timber floors, brought turbo head separately for my rugs. I like the extra tools that come with the vacuum and the cord has a good length. But the vacuum cleaner plastic components feel cheap
Wish I had read the reviews first.
Cheap plastic rubbish. Not what you expect from $500 +. Loved my old Dyson, very dissapointed. Hair blocks barrel which needs manual untangling, blocks dirt going into barrel. Musclehead tool plastic has WORN off in 5 months so it now leaves scuffs on timber floor. Asked for refund for faulty lemon, told no only part replacement. And BUY another part. Seriously Dyson, model is a lemon recall it. Customers are fleeing and wont be back.
It sucks more than it sucks! And not in a good way!
After seeing a heap of recommendations for a Dyson vacuum cleaner, I decided to get a cinetic big ball after my trusty Miele finally blew up. So maybe I’m just an idiot and don’t know how to use the thing properly, or I’ve missed a warning on the instructions in teeny writing saying ‘do not suck anything up bigger than a match head or it’ll block.’ Cos basically that’s what happens. Not only does it block easily, it takes FOREVER taking the thing apart to find which section may be blocked since the hose consists of several stupid bends making i...t easier to block. I spend more time poking various bendy objects into its numerous holes than I do actually using the thing, Im sure if it could orgasm, it would! Thank god the hose comes apart into 100 pieces because it’s the only practical part of the bloody vacuum! And the barrel is ridiculously small, it fills up quickly and is a nightmare to empty! I can’t just tip the crap out, I have to shake the crap out of it and poke things into that part of it too! It gets more pokes than me! I swear those who do recommend them just jump on the bandwagon about how good they are and have never actually used one. The next person I see recommend one, I’m going to demand to see a pic of them holding it because I’m sure that many people can’t be that in love with this piece of rubbish!
So Disappointed! Wish I'd read the Reviews!
We had to replace our beloved Dyson pull along recently which had lasted us over 8 years. We decided to splash out and buy the most expensive model expecting great things. To say we were disappointed is a huge understatement.
When I vacuum the turbo head is so close to the ground that it pushes the dirt instead of sucking it up. If I can get over it it sucks some up and then the rest comes out the back. The turbo head spins so fast it is constantly flicking out dirt. I have to vacuum the same piece of carpet multiple times and then it's still...not clean. This happens on both carpet and tiles. The opening latch on the barrel is not great and the barrel has opened all over my floor before I could get to the bin. Also the flap which opens to empty the vacuum does not clip on properly and you really have to push it hard to secure it. I imagine it will snap off soon. I have contacted Dyson about this vacuum as I have taken videos of it 'vacumming'. Waiting to hear back. Lesson - read reviews first!
Really Not fit for purpose
We replaced our decade old purple Dyson which was easily the best vac we'd ever had. This model has some really fundamental design problems. The attachment holder obstructs access to the wand. The want will not sit in the slot meant to hold it when being stored. It falls out every single time. Slot provided just not adequate to hold it but worse is when in use it will blows puffs of fine dust out of the air outtake vent on the back. Its enough dust that we can easily see it coming out and it covers the vacuum in dust. We won't gamble our health or another $700 with Dyson
Purchased in July 2017.
Motor burnout after 3 years.
This is our second Dyson barrel vac. First one burnt the motor out after 7 years.
Purchased this supposedly bigger and better and more expensive machine 3 years ago. Motor has burnt out once again.
We have a Dyson handheld that gets more use than this and has had no issues.
I guess you don’t get what you pay for.
Purchased in June 2016 for A$700.00.
Questions & Answers
Where are the filters
Your Dyson Cinetic Big Ball machine features Dyson Cinetic Science which means it has no filters you need to wash, replace or change. Just empty the bin when the dust reaches the MAX line to ensure it performs as it should (you can see how to do this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDs8l7msca0)
While there is a post motor filter built into the ball, this filter is designed to last the lifetime of your machine with no need for maintenance.

If you are not in Australia, please visit www.dyson.com and press "Contact Us" for the local contact information of the Dyson helpline in your area.
Why does mine smell bad when it has never been wet or vacuumed up wet material? How do you clean it thoroughly?
If a smell is coming from your machine, this can indicate either something with a strong scent or some dust containing a high moisture content has been vacuumed up. We recommend carrying out the following steps which may dispel any odour.
After emptying you may rinse the clear bin in cold water, ensuring that no detergents are used. Please don't remove the seals whilst washing the clear bin and most importantly ensure that the clear bin is completely dry before placing back onto the machine. Please note that the cyclone top assembly, which attaches on top of the bin, must be removed and is not washable. You can find instructions on how to remove the cyclone here: https://support.dyson.com.au/supportHome.aspx/Vacuums/Cylinders/Dyson-Cinetic-Big-Ball/214892-01/maintaining-your-dyson-machine/cleaning-the-bin
We also recommend to let the hose, floor tool and wand of your machine air out for 24-48 hours, ideally somewhere safe, dry and sunny.
If you find the odour persists, or we can assist further, please call us on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.
our Big Ball Animal Dyson started exhausting a foul smell as well.
Turned out it was the cyclone filter system. Despite emptying the bin out and cleaning it thoroughly, it still smelt horrible
I ended up completely disassembling the cyclone filter (BIG job) and found a huge amount of muck stuck inside all over the filter and the air jets. Some were completely clogged. Turned out my partner had used one of those carpet cleaning powders which I think are slightly damp as well. It's gone through the entire filter system and gummed it all up inside. I had to pull the entire filter apart and clean all the parts individually. I then soaked all the parts in a mix of water and mild detergent overnight. Dried it all out with compressed air and then re-assembled. Smell is now gone and suction is as good as new now.
We since found out that you should never use powder carpet cleaners in bag-less vacuums.... lesson learned. Fortunately it seems the powder didn't make it to the motor, which seems to have survived.....
my new dyson big ball origin head doesn't seem to pick up dirt rather it just pushes it around causing me to have to lift the head up and place it down on top of dust to get it clean
I had the same problem.
l had to purchase a carbon fibre turbine head of the Dyson website. Not ideal to fork out an extra $120 but now I get a really good clean.
Any debris too large to fit under the floor tool may be pushed along the floor. For larger debris such as this, we would encourage either placing the floor tool directly on top of the debris, or removing the floor tool and using the included combination tool to clean these up.
