Not a good choice
Too heavy and cumbersome to move. End up carrying it around the house - which is not ideal. Worst point is that it does not actual suck up the dirt. It kind of pushes everything around and ends up with in clumps, which I guess is easier to pick up. I have no idea why people rave over this brand. Could not be more disappointed.
Purchased in September 2020.

Hair is not a problem... if it only was so easy. Isn't it a shame that a machine that is called 'multi floor extra' requires extra attachments to work???

My Dyson Animal lasted two years. It's use has been household carpet and vinyl flooring. A few days ago the unit started producing a screaming sound which I took to be a bearing failure. I fitted a new motor and. Upon examining the old motor found the end cap on the motor housing had fatigued totally and allowed the amature to contact the outer section. The casing is unbelievably thin.

Don't buy into the Dyson hype
The suction levels on the vacuum are poor - refer video. On timber floors it won't pick up anything larger than a grain of rice on first sweep. I have to pick up multiple items by hand as it's faster than moving the vacuum head back and forth again and again. The on/off and cord retractor buttons seem to be fagile, however in fairness I could be wrong. But their size and placement make it difficult to use anything but hands. When emptying the vacuum it has opened unexpectedly on multiple occasions, dumping dust on clean floors. And its quite difficult to get the bottom door of the dust receptacle to stay closed. It's truly awful!

We are sorry to see you are having trouble with your Dyson Cinetic Big Ball.
We certainly wouldn't expect any difficulties with the pickup performance or the bin emptying by itself....

Good enough suction, but don’t buy because you loved the Dyson Classic.
I bought this because I absolutely loved my Dyson Classic, which was starting to die after 16 years. What a let down! The techie guys at Dyson obviously thought they were making design improvements, but have failed miserably.
There is only one handle, compared to the Classic, which means that if you dock the wand before you pick up the entire unit, you invariable get clonked in the head.
The ball wheels I initially thought were pretty good, but have since realised that on corners, where the straight wheels hit the skirting boards, this one impa...

To clear your machine's Turbine Head, take a coin, twist it in the slot on the side to unlock the end cap, remove the Brush Bar and remove the wrapped threads or hair:

Motor burnout after 3 years.
This is our second Dyson barrel vac. First one burnt the motor out after 7 years.
Purchased this supposedly bigger and better and more expensive machine 3 years ago. Motor has burnt out once again.
We have a Dyson handheld that gets more use than this and has had no issues.
I guess you don’t get what you pay for.
Purchased in June 2016 for $700.00.

Best vacuum I've used
I use this vac on rugs and hard floors. We have a dog and a cat and there are three adults and two messy kids.
I upgraded from a bag free Hoover and what a difference!
There's no messing about with this one - everything gets sucked up and because it's bagless you see it happening. My rugs haven't ever had such a thorough clean.
I like the fact you can clean the filters yourself and don't have the added expense of buying replacements.
The parts click neatly together and can be easily taken apart.
It's a very attractive-looking machine, which i...

It Suck But A Disappointing Head.
I have long been loyal to and a fan of the Dyson brand but having recently purchased a Big Ball Allergy from David Jones I am genuinely disappointed. While build quality is all that you would expect from the Dyson, the turbine head attached to this unit is woeful, on hard floors it will not pick up anything larger than a dust particle, kicking anything larger about not leaving floors clean. The suction is good but this unit of little to no use to anyone who has a hard or wooden floor without purchasing a dedicated hardwood floor head. Given the...
Read more price point, in my view this should be included with the vacuum - the turbine head simply does not work on hard floors. March 2nd 2019 Update: Great disappointment. Don't believe the 'reinvention of the vacuum' spin. The Big Ball Kinetic, Allergy is a great disappointment. Correct me if I am wrong but I was of view that the intention of the invention is to lift dust and dirt from a floor surfaces - it fails to do so. The heads do not work well. We own the power head (supplied with the unit) and later purchased the swivel hard floor tool. The power head, on hard floors can only be described as ordinary at best. It successfully brushes dirt but takes as many as three to four passes to collect. It is also incapable of picking up a leaf or anything larger than a 10c piece - Something a 1980's hoover was/is very capable of. The hard floor head is not a great deal better, the thing struggles to pick up a very small, dry dog biscuit. As a consumer I feel the brand place the belief in their our technology ahead of form and function. The vacuum, at a high price point, does not work well and causes much frustration - a great shame as I first purchased the original Dyson some 15 years ago, and it worked. Very well. I will be shelving my most recent Big Ball purchase and will not be buying another.Purchased in October 2018 for $699.00.

Hi Heath,
Thanks for your review and we are sorry to hear your feedback....
Read more The brushbar in the Turbine Head that comes with your machine has 2 rows of bristles, one row is nylon which is designed to pick up on carpet and for larger debris and one row of fine black carbon fibre bristles which are the best antistatic fibre for pick up of fine dust and general household debris on hard floors. With some hard floor types, a specialized hard floor head may provide a better result, this head comes standard on the Cinetic Big Ball Animal and Animal Pro variants. To help rule out any other issues that could be reducing the pick up on hard floor or to order an articulating hard floor tool please reach out to our Dyson experts at auaskdyson@dyson.com including your contact details, a description of the issue and the machine's serial number and we will be more than happy to help. Dyson - I am very excited about my new vacuum and think I may just have to figure out how to work some aspects. I have used it four or five times. I have had a few trial and error mistakes with the bin not being properly closed and vacuuming dirt all over. Hopefully I've solved that. My turbine head seems very noisy and I'm thinking I probably should be wearing ear protectors. I thought maybe something is clogging it - I have cleaned the brushes on the turbine head a few times as my long hair is wrapping around the roller. I have removed it all but still very noisy and I'm feeling the suction isn't as good as it was the first day. My husband tried it and it was too loud for him and he operates our leaf blower with enthusiasm. The wand seems to be fastened properly. I do feel like it is a simple fix but I just can't find what it is.

Hi
When I vacuum carpet with my Dyson Big Ball it doesn't seem to pick up what is on the floor but instead seems to collect it then sucks it back out onto the floor. Any recommendations on how to stop this?

My cinetic big ball cannister wont stay closed at the bottom - every tume i remove it all the dirt empties all over floor. It doesnt clip closed at all

Oh yes!
This is a feature of the obstinate Big Ball !
Didn't they tell you !
The suction inlet gets blocked with anything bigger than a gnats testicle.
So you have to open it to clear the obstruction.
Good idea never to open your machine inside the house.
Oh I don't have a problem with suction. But I do have a problem with the clip at bottom of cylinder. Wont stay closed. Dirt everywhere

We are sorry to hear the bin is opening on your machine when not expected. Sometimes, this can happen if the bin is pushed back up into position without closing the trap door first. We encourage closing the trap door, then pushing the bin back up into position.
If this is how you already close the bin or this continues, please just get in touch with our Dyson Experts and we will be happy to help get this sorted. You can find our contact details here: https://www.dyson.com.au/support/contact-us
