Much better than expected - Love it
I have to start this review by stating I have NEVER owned or used a Dyson product. (ever!)
Been quite skeptical about Dyson products and never believed the hype.
But the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball has complete changed my opinion on Dyson products.
The cleaner has lots of pros and a few cons but overall, I definitely rate this product 5 stars.
Please note this review is based upon cleaning of carpet floors only.
We have no cats and one spoodle so we didn't really get the chance to test the cleaners ability to remove pet fur from lounges and rugs.

Designed for what it's meant to do!
Recently we received a Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal+ as a part of Product Review’s Ambassador Program, so let’s start at the beginning.
1. Packaging and Documentation
It arrived in a sturdy cardboard box and packaging with minimal waste and no polystyrene; you can be highly confident of receiving a complete unit in good, undamaged condition.
I know there is an old adage that the user manual is for those who know no better, but in this case I sat down to read the documentation and found it to be inadequate at best; it featured a lot of repeate...Read more

Bitterly disappointed
I paid $700 (on special) for this cleaner which was delivered in January 2018, I had an early model Dyson which was very loud but a great cleaner. A part broke but because of age of cleaner, replacement part not available. When we release the barrel on the new cleaner to empty it, it spits the contents on the floor. When the barrel is less than half full, the suction dies alarmingly and the cleaner has to be emptied. The cleaner is still under warranty but frankly I would prefer my money back. So disappointed! The cleaner is used on carpet and tiles. I bought this one as we have a cat. It does pick up the cat fur extremely well. But when you have to keep emptying it when it is not even half full, it is not worth it.

In a word ‘WOW’ -- [I am impressed]
I was very impressed with the Dyson Big Ball Animal from the time I opened the carton.
The simple and neat way the contents were packed made it easy to remove and assemble the vacuum cleaner and use it.
It only took a few minutes to get everything going.
The quality and thought put into this unit is very impressive from first glance.
The attachments fit very well and are easy to connect and click together securely.
There are no loose fitting hoses or attachments; you have everything you could want for (normal) house cleaning supplied in the car...Read more

Wish I had of read reviews, waste of money
I bought this vacuum in June and have had nothing but trouble with it. The multi head doesn't even make contact with the carpet so nothing gets picked up. Dyson used to be the go to manufacturer and this is our 4th dyson, I have 2 cordless dysons and older bagless that I now use for the cars. I was looking for a good vacuum for the bigger jobs but I won't be buying Dyson again.

The ultimate vacuum of the future
I recently got the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animial+ yesterday and couldn't believe the power of it let alone the design.
When turning it on to vacuum my carpet within living room the power of the suction was mind blowing. Never seen my carpet so clean within the amount of minutes. It was like getting a professional to do it but instead it was me.
Love the fact that when you go from Carpet to Tile which the setting change automatically where I too used it within the kitchen.
I'm a big believer on the design/colour of a product because if yo...Read more
u like the way it looks naturally you want to get your hands on it. The colours of blue, red and grey was simply out of this world! I didn't have any issues with it tipping over given the 2x circular wheels on each side making it quite easy to use when vacuuming.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Overhyped
Durable and functions well. But over priced. You are paying for quality with strong suction. Don't use this on floor boards or polished tiles or you'll see scratches after. It works best for carpets. Put a Dyson label on the vacuum and expect to pay a 50 - 70% premium.

Good enough suction, but don’t buy because you loved the Dyson Classic.
I bought this because I absolutely loved my Dyson Classic, which was starting to die after 16 years. What a let down! The techie guys at Dyson obviously thought they were making design improvements, but have failed miserably.
There is only one handle, compared to the Classic, which means that if you dock the wand before you pick up the entire unit, you invariable get clonked in the head.
The ball wheels I initially thought were pretty good, but have since realised that on corners, where the straight wheels hit the skirting boards, this one impa...Read more

Excellent vacuum
Very strong suction. I got this one after my old Hoover died and this Dyson hasn't disappointed. After vacuuming, the place feels very clean, including the air. I don't even see little dust particles floating in the air after finishing vacuuming. Emptying the cannister, however, isn't a breeze as it is advertised. I have to empty the cannister and tap gently on the top a few times to remove all the dust. Overall, very satisfied.

Powerful suck
I use this vacuum predominantly on hard floor. It is very powerful. It's very easy to maintain. Please note that all bagless vacuum cleaners need to have their filters cleaned regularly for optimum performance.

Great Suction minimal effort
So far so good. I have hard floors and multiple rugs and I needed a vacuum that would cope well with both. The suction on the rugs is fantastic. I like my stick for small jobs but this is a serious cleaner. I note the on off switch and cord retraction buttons are flimsy compared to previous machines so the jury is still out on those but the machine is easy to use and effortless the move around.

Motor burnout after 3 years.
This is our second Dyson barrel vac. First one burnt the motor out after 7 years.
Purchased this supposedly bigger and better and more expensive machine 3 years ago. Motor has burnt out once again.
We have a Dyson handheld that gets more use than this and has had no issues.
I guess you don’t get what you pay for.

Significant decline in quality
We owned and old Dyson powerhead vacuum and loved it. The Animal couldn't be more opposite. The head quality is fragile at best. The brushes have not survived 12 months of domestic use. The lack of a true powerhead has significantly degraded the ability to remove dirt from carpet. The bin empty process has been someone that must have been tasked with with designing the worst possible mechanism. The bin capacity appears to be about 1/10 of the older Dysons and has to be emptied far more frequently in a house that has long-haired girls and a dog.
I won't be buying another one.

Bought this one to replace the stand up type Dyson Animal which was heavy
The ball is lighter and easier to use. it sucks like mad and is easier to clean. The container for dust is a little smaller, but it seems more robust and is easy to take out and in.

Best vacuum I've used
I use this vac on rugs and hard floors. We have a dog and a cat and there are three adults and two messy kids.
I upgraded from a bag free Hoover and what a difference!
There's no messing about with this one - everything gets sucked up and because it's bagless you see it happening. My rugs haven't ever had such a thorough clean.
I like the fact you can clean the filters yourself and don't have the added expense of buying replacements.
The parts click neatly together and can be easily taken apart.
It's a very attractive-looking machine, which i...Read more

Lots of suction, lots of plastic parts to break
The vacuum cleaner is really good as far a suction and cleaning power go. Gives a good deep clean on carpet and easy going on tile floors. The lack of bag is a great concept and there's a good array of tools.
On the downside Dyson has never been big on plastics quality. The plastics components are weak and flimsy and will fail easily. Whilst its a good cleaner make sure and take out extended warranty

Could be better
Bought to replace a 10 year old "high end" Electrolux Barrel that had a few broken bits of plastic. I have a mix of hard floor, carpets and stairs. Do not have pets as such, but family members with long hair. I have used Dyson's before, but not owned one. Cannot comment on reliability as only a month old.
Good:
The small roating head accessory is great for stairs
Suction is excellent: on first use I found "extra" dust
Does not fall over
Light to carry
Most accessories attach to the wand
No bags !!

It Suck But A Disappointing Head.
I have long been loyal to and a fan of the Dyson brand but having recently purchased a Big Ball Allergy from David Jones I am genuinely disappointed. While build quality is all that you would expect from the Dyson, the turbine head attached to this unit is woeful, on hard floors it will not pick up anything larger than a dust particle, kicking anything larger about not leaving floors clean. The suction is good but this unit of little to no use to anyone who has a hard or wooden floor without purchasing a dedicated hardwood floor head. Given the...Read more
price point, in my view this should be included with the vacuum - the turbine head simply does not work on hard floors. March 2nd 2019 Update: Great disappointment. Don't believe the 'reinvention of the vacuum' spin. The Big Ball Kinetic, Allergy is a great disappointment. Correct me if I am wrong but I was of view that the intention of the invention is to lift dust and dirt from a floor surfaces - it fails to do so. The heads do not work well. We own the power head (supplied with the unit) and later purchased the swivel hard floor tool. The power head, on hard floors can only be described as ordinary at best. It successfully brushes dirt but takes as many as three to four passes to collect. It is also incapable of picking up a leaf or anything larger than a 10c piece - Something a 1980's hoover was/is very capable of. The hard floor head is not a great deal better, the thing struggles to pick up a very small, dry dog biscuit. As a consumer I feel the brand place the belief in their our technology ahead of form and function. The vacuum, at a high price point, does not work well and causes much frustration - a great shame as I first purchased the original Dyson some 15 years ago, and it worked. Very well. I will be shelving my most recent Big Ball purchase and will not be buying another.5 comments

Hi Heath,
Thanks for your review and we are sorry to hear your feedback.... Read more
The brushbar in the Turbine Head that comes with your machine has 2 rows of bristles, one row is nylon which is designed to pick up on carpet and for larger debris and one row of fine black carbon fibre bristles which are the best antistatic fibre for pick up of fine dust and general household debris on hard floors. With some hard floor types, a specialized hard floor head may provide a better result, this head comes standard on the Cinetic Big Ball Animal and Animal Pro variants. To help rule out any other issues that could be reducing the pick up on hard floor or to order an articulating hard floor tool please reach out to our Dyson experts at auaskdyson@dyson.com including your contact details, a description of the issue and the machine's serial number and we will be more than happy to help. Disappointed
I use to believe that "you get what you paid for".. not with the Dyson unfortunately. Dont get me wrong, it works great, but its overpriced. I few issues I have with it. 1. Hose too short. 2. Bin does not shut correctly/easily. You have to make sure its clipped in and fit correctly or the door will open without you opening it. Maybe I got a faulty seal door *shrugs* 3. Extremely hot air output. 4. Handle makes my hands hurt and its heavy.

Dyson - I am very excited about my new vacuum and think I may just have to figure out how to work some aspects. I have used it four or five times. I have had a few trial and error mistakes with the bin not being properly closed and vacuuming dirt all over. Hopefully I've solved that. My turbine head seems very noisy and I'm thinking I probably should be wearing ear protectors. I thought maybe something is clogging it - I have cleaned the brushes on the turbine head a few times as my long hair is wrapping around the roller. I have removed it all but still very noisy and I'm feeling the suction isn't as good as it was the first day. My husband tried it and it was too loud for him and he operates our leaf blower with enthusiasm. The wand seems to be fastened properly. I do feel like it is a simple fix but I just can't find what it is.

Hi
When I vacuum carpet with my Dyson Big Ball it doesn't seem to pick up what is on the floor but instead seems to collect it then sucks it back out onto the floor. Any recommendations on how to stop this?

My cinetic big ball cannister wont stay closed at the bottom - every tume i remove it all the dirt empties all over floor. It doesnt clip closed at all
3 answers
Oh yes!
This is a feature of the obstinate Big Ball !
Didn't they tell you !
The suction inlet gets blocked with anything bigger than a gnats testicle.
So you have to open it to clear the obstruction.
Good idea never to open your machine inside the house.
Oh I don't have a problem with suction. But I do have a problem with the clip at bottom of cylinder. Wont stay closed. Dirt everywhere
DysonDyson
We are sorry to hear the bin is opening on your machine when not expected. Sometimes, this can happen if the bin is pushed back up into position without closing the trap door first. We encourage closing the trap door, then pushing the bin back up into position.
If this is how you already close the bin or this continues, please just get in touch with our Dyson Experts and we will be happy to help get this sorted. You can find our contact details here: https://www.dyson.com.au/support/contact-us
