If i have a DC23 motorhead can you put a DC23 motor in it will the foot work
I have a DC23 Motorhead cannister and the power bar turns off constantly. I have cleaned it and it still happens - does it have a belt that needs to be replaced?
The Dyson DC23 Motorhead doesn't have any belts in the head that need to be replaced. For best assistance, we would encourage getting in touch with our Dyson Experts who will be happy to assist with troubleshooting. You can find ways of getting in touch here: external link
We hope to hear from you and look forward to assisting.
The DC23 motorhead does have a drive belt that does wear out but it is not offered as a service part. At one point I saw some advertised in the USA but they were about USD$45.00 each. With some skullduggery you can get the motorhead apart but obviously Dyson would rather sell you a new motorhead, however I believe the genuine ones are now obsolete from Dyson.
Where can I turn off the brush bar on my DC 23 Turbinehead ?
I Have the Dyson DC 23 . As I understand there is a difference between the motor head and the turbine head. How do i tell which on I have?
If you own a DC23 Motorhead, on the cleaner head itself, there will be a translucent red button on the head. This button, which when pressed while the machine is operating, will turn the brushbar on and off.
We hope this helps, but if we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via live chat, Facebook Messenger and phone and happy to help. You can find our contact details here: external link
Thank you that’s exactly the info I needed to work from. Turns out the 3 pin connection at the arm side has broken. Can we replace the female connector soccet?
So we can further assist, we would encourage getting in touch directly with our Dyson Experts.

Are there differences other than attachments between the DC 23 MotorHead and the DC 23 AnimalHead?
My Dyson DC23 motorised head has stopped working suddenly and there is no replacement head available I'm told by Dyson in Sydney. What happens to this vacuum cleaner now ? The machine itself is not broken and works on hard floors with the appropriate head, so now I need a new vac... do Dyson recycle all the parts of this vacuum cleaner as someone told me ? Seems like planned obsolescence, doesn't it?
While we have provided support and service for the DC23 since its launch back in 2009, our range of technologies has greatly advanced. While we are still able to provide support, the tooling required to manufacture parts for this machine is wearing out and we are not able to continue manufacturing parts or performing services, hence this machine is now considered a retired machine.
Dyson do have an offer for owners of retired machines and recycling the machine is something we can certainly assist with. For further information, please email auaskdyson@dyson.com and our Dyson Experts will be happy to help.
Am I able to buy a non motorized carpet head for my dc23? I know that I can turn the turbine head off but it is heavy to push.
Apologies for any disappointment, however we no longer have any alternate heads available for the DC23 Motorhead. If you are finding your machine hard to push, we would encourage getting in touch with our Dyson Experts on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEST. Please call at your convenience with your machine handy.
Hi, my Dc 23 Motörhead spins fine or a hard floor surface Or if I lift the head off the ground - but as soon as you put it on a rug or carpet it stops spinning. The power head & barrel are very clean there are no obstructions. Is there a right or wrong way to put the brush (2 sections) in , does this make any difference? Can someone give me some advice please. Julie
If this is happening, it sounds like the head of the machine may need to be replaced. Please be assured the brushes will only fit in one way to make putting them incorrectly very unlikely. We would encourage giving our Dyson Experts a call with your machine handy on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEST.
If you are not in Australia, please visit external link and press "Contact Us" for the local contact information of the Dyson helpline in your area.
We look forward to hearing from you and assisting.
Hi I have a dyson DC23 and it stopped working I checked everything and determined I needed a new motor I bought a new dyson original motor on it's own without the bucket and proceeded to replace it however I couldnt disassemble the small white plastic cooling part that's on top inside the bucket as its attached by some strange nut not a screw If I bought the whole motor bucket assembly it would have been easy I need instructions advice how to remove that small cooling part so I can assemble and fit the new motor into the old bucket so I can then fit it back into the vaccum Thank you for any help
To ensure electrical work is done safely, we do apologise for any disappointment, however we don't provide motor fitting instructions. We would encourage getting your machine serviced by a Dyson technician if the motor needs to be replaced. Just give us a call on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy and we will be happy to book this in. Our Dyson Experts are available Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEST.
I have. Dyson DC23 and the power head only works for a very short time and then quits? Everything else on vacuum works???

Our Dyson Experts will be happy to assist in diagnosing your machine and getting this sorted.
We look forward to hearing from you.
My Dyson DC23 motorhead constantly goes off. Works for only a few seconds then quits. It's obviously a power issue as it will stop and start when I move the swiveling portion of the head. It has given me approx 10 years of maintenance free service. I suspect a broken wire making contact when the head is moved. Thanks. Any ideas?
We are sorry to hear the head of your machine is working intermittantly. If you could please forward your query along with your details to auaskdyson@dyson.com, our Dyson Experts will be in touch to assist with diagnostics and getting a resoluton for you.
We look forward to hearing from you and assisting.
Our DC23 has been a stellar vacuum but lately when operating on rug setting it keeps shutting off the rollers after a 5 or 6 swipes. After a while it is difficult to switch on the turbine action.
Is there a fix for this?
Cheers, Greg

We have a DC 23 (about 5 yo) and a V6 Animal (about 1 yo) - VERY happy with both, but would just like to know what the "suction comparison" is between the two ? (and on both settings for the stick).
Many thanks in anticipation. Frank LeFaucheur
Hi Christine and Frank, Thank you for your query. Your DC23 provides 250AW of suction power, and your V6 provides 100AW on MAX mode, and 28AW on high power mode. I hope this helps, but please feel free to reach out via auaskdyson@dyson.com if we can assist further.
Best wishes,

Is a Dyson DC23 and a Dyson DC23 Motorhead the same thing?
There were several DC23 models, but not all had a motorhead or the capacity to fit one on. The motorhead model (also called a Stowaway) has three metal prongs on the rod connection, which plug into the motorhead, giving it extra power. Other DC23 models had your standard turbine heads.
Hi there, Thank you for your query. The DC23 Motorhead had additional wiring and circuitry throughout the machine to drive a motorised brushbar for carpet cleaning. Other DC23 machines are lighter than the DC23 Motorhead, however, lack the necessary extras to power a motorhead, using either a turbine head or a suction only floor tool to clean floors.
Best wishes,
Shan

The wand on my dyson d23 motorhead, always blocks and i don't use it frequently (reason floor boards) and now it will not unblock i had this problem from the beginning and each time i was told it would not happen again. Is there one sure way of unblocking it for good? I don't see why i should spend more money or anymore of my time! I can't in anyway recommend your brand. Really unhappy.
Hi there,
If you haven't already done so, please reach out via askdyson@dyson.com.au and we will be more than happy to help you further.

I used my DC23 on new carpet and the wool clogged up the hose, took me a while to find out how to remove the hose; Just un-click the bottom hose holder and flip out, and press down the button at the inlet, pull the hose out. Get a coat hanger to hook out the rubbish. Refer to 2nd picture of the manual
