Aesthetically nice to live with, great app support, unsure of clinical usefulness.
As part of the ProductReview Ambassador program, I’d been asked to review this Dyson Air Purifier – a product class I hadn’t seriously considered previously. The context of it’s use is worth mentioning, which involves a large 2-storey house, located in a semi-rural area, with vineyards adjoining our house block, a small dog, a cockatiel (indoors), and 3 teenage kids. Thanks to my amazing wife, our house is “display-home” clean the majority of the time. The main factors that I could identify that might usually affect indoor air qual...

I was sent this machine in order to do a review on it for the product review website.
The machine seems quite “plasticky” with a lot of plastic parts. It’s quite easy to pull out of the box and put together, the filters seem to be able to go in either way (ie no up or down side to them). You have to go to the website to download the full instruction manual. The machine is quite ungainly to move/carry, as you have to move/carry it by the base.
It has A LOT of safety rules, which I wasn’t expecting, eg you can’t use it with an extension cord,...as that can be a fire hazard. You can’t put the cable under furniture. I realise it’s a heater, which means you can’t use it within a metre of any textiles, curtains, or any other flammable material but given its size, and all the rules around its use, it’s fairly impractical for me with the size of my home, the layout of my home (lots of flammable furnishings, rugs, etc) and the size of my dogs. Essentially, you need to treat the machine the same way would use a candle!! The machine isn’t very large, and I wouldn’t feel confident of it being safe to use around my pets, as I think they could easily knock it over. There is physically nowhere I would feel comfortable to place it and use it, if I wasn’t in the room at all times when it was on when using heating mode, as I would be concerned my (medium sized) dogs could run past it and knock it over, potentially starting a fire. I also don’t like the fact that they recommend you sit it out in the middle of the room so that it can work to it’s fullest potential. That just makes the room look ugly and creates a trip hazard. It doesn’t do a good job of heating in larger, open plan spaces. It does a great job of heating in a small sized room (eg average size bedroom) even though I couldn’t put it somewhere safely, or not within a metre of any other object (as recommended). However, when I set it to reach a particular temperature (22 degrees) when it was at 19 degrees to start with, in a small room with the door closed, it didn’t reach the set temperature of 22 degrees within 30 minutes and then switch off like I thought it would – and the room felt stiflingly hot. The next time I tried to test this, the temperature was set to reach 21 degrees. After a while it finally reached that temperature and the fan dropped to speed 1, and the air coming from it felt like it was trying to cool the room even though it was on heat. I opened the door to the room and a few minutes later the fan kicked in again (but was still showing as being on level 1, but was much noisier).
