A dream to clean with
I was so incredibly excited to be given one of the new Dyson vacuums to test out. I bought the V8 a couple of years ago and fell in love with it immediately. The first difference I noticed was the weight, it’s considerably heavier than the V8 (I can’t speak about the V10 as I never used that one but I know the V11 does look quite similar to the 10)
The weight of the V8 never bothered me, I wouldn’t say the V11 is incredibly heavy or anything, but it’s definitely a little more hefty.
The suction though, wow! I was impressed with my old model,...this thing leaves it in the dust (pun intended). I used the max setting one time and it lifted the heavy carpet from the floor! The auto setting seems more than intelligent enough to decide how much power is needed, I was quite surprised by that, you can feel and hear it adjust its power level as you switch from carpet to hard floors, this is great because I was always too lazy to change the setting before and just did my whole house on max. This vacuum will last the full hour on the low (eco) setting, I tested that myself, but I find that it’s not really good enough at picking everything up that way. It will only last about 10 minutes on max, which if I’m very quick is enough to do the whole house (imperfectly- no switching tools or anything) but using the auto mode I get a bit over 30 minutes and can switch tools to do a flawless job of the whole house!

Heap of extra and great suction
The Dyson vacuum cleaner comes in a compact box and it’s nice to see a distinct lack of plastic in its packaging. Everything is in cardboard packaging and even the manual comes in an envelope instead of the customary plastic bag (Pic 1)
Like previous Dyson products, this come with a number of different attachments which simply click on and off.
The fluffy roller head is stated as being useful for hard floors as the roller head will pick up larger debris while picking up dust at the same time. Personally, I didn't find this any more useful th...en the high torque head. The roller comes with a soft plush material which seems to make the head glide uncontrollable on my hard floors. On my tiles, when I want it to simply go up and down in a straight line it was doing zigzags. On floorboards the directional controls are better. If you have rugs on your hard floor then using this head means you then have to change the head when you want to vacuum the rug. For me this not very useful, so it does not get used often. Plus, I am not sure how one would clean that material when its gets dirty. The high torque head on the other hand is brilliant. Still glides easily but not to the extent that it becomes uncontrollable. The head pretty much swivels easily in any direction you want. The suction around the top and side edges of the head is fantastic - basically if you have a straight corner then it vacuums that corner so you don't need to use the crevice device to get into the corner. It moves easily between hard floors, carpets and rugs. The suction automatically changes as you move from one to the other. My carpets are new and visually looks fine but this is what the vacuum cleaner picked up which is very impressive (Pic 2). I have 4 carpeted rooms so it seems the dust compartment should be enough to do a whole house before needing to be emptied.

Teenagers love it
My teenage son now has no issues doing the vacuuming! And a caveat is that I was asked to review this machine as a Product Review ambassador, and this does not in any way sway my following opinions or advise. There's few negatives with this latest Dyson cordless so I'll begin with the positives.
Vacuuming capability is beyond anything I've experienced with any 240v machines (bagged and barrel) with it's abilities & well designed features. I haven't used any other cordless vacs BTW.
The barrel is designed to prevent particles actually making i...

How it should have always been ...
I’m now a complete convert to stick vacuums having used a V10 Absolute, V11 Absolute and now V11 Absolute Extra.
With the V10 I worried about running out of battery as it was my first type of battery vacuum. With the V11 I no longer worried as it has a battery indicator showing how much time remains. The same indicator also exists on the V11 Absolute Extra.
The battery indicator automatically adjusts depending on the floor type. Move to a different floor type and the indicator recalculates. No more guessing how long until the battery runs...out. There are three suction settings Eco, Auto or Boost. I use Auto almost exclusively. If I think the carpet needs more, I’ll briefly use Boost. But Auto does a perfectly fine job on all floor surfaces. On full charge, Auto (middle) setting, wool carpet estimate says 22:35 minutes. Change to tile floor, same setting, and the estimate is 42:26 minutes.

How great can a vacuum really be? Turns out the V11 is excellent.
We have multiple flooring types in our home- hardwood, carpet and tiles, and already had a Dyson v6 that did a satisfactory job. Then we started using the V11 which proved to be both amazing and horrifying in the amount of dust it sucked up on floors that already appeared pretty clean.
The V11 has an incredible battery life and is well balanced, easy to maneuver, and extremely intuitive. It senses the floor type you are on and automatically adjusts to maximise cleaning efficac...y, meaning you spend less time on multiple passes of the floor. Clean up is easy- unclip the head and one lever opens the catch over the bin with speed and ease. Back on the charging dock and you are done. Less time spent cleaning is OK by me! There is a generous array of thoughtfully considered attachments that will cover most household tasks. I particularly liked the hard floor head on our floating hardwood floors, it managed to collect the micro dust that settled in between the floor boards. The floor felt squeaky clean. The only things I can fault is the charging station doesn’t have a space for each of the attachments, so you will need a little basket to store the few extra heads. The other is the weight of the item- it can feel heavy initially, however as the V11 is so well balanced and easy to use, I didn’t find it particularly cumbersome. The V11 is genuinely a thoughtfully made and extremely well engineered item. It is an investment, however I feel that the product quality justifies the price. It’s pretty awesome. My house has never been cleaner.

Its changed the way I clean
I was asked by the ProductReview.com.au Ambassadors program to review the Dyson v11 absolute extra handheld vacuum cleaner. I must admit I was seriously excited at the prospect of receiving this new Dyson to try and give my opinion on. I mean, it is a Dyson after all and they’re supposed to be one of the better brands available.
My Dyson duly arrived and I was a bit stunned at the amount of cardboard packaging. Every attachment was in a box of its own within the main box which was in another box. I found it to be excessive to be honest. ...
Purple dust eater
The Dyson V11 Absolute Extra is one of the latest creations from Dyson and I am in love! I purchased my first Dyson vacuum 10 years ago and it’s still running as well as it did the day I purchased it. I won’t buy another brand. In saying that I can be lazy and I’m tend to reach for a little dustbuster to clean up messes in a hurry but it doesn’t do the best job. This stick vac offers the best of both worlds, only better! I can vacuum the whole house without needing to recharge the battery (thankfully because that can take a while). I only need ...to empty the bin once or twice for a large 4 bedroom house, and it’s super easy to do so and mess free unlike the old barrel option. The high toque brush head is amazing, especially on carpets. I’m realising how much of my hair has been hiding around the house when it seems to be what’s filling the bin. I think it got dirt out of the hall runner that no other vacuum had touched in 20yrs. The fluffy cleaning head is gentle and effective on tiles, cork and floorboards and doesn’t push debris around like other vacuums. The mini motorized tool and stubborn dirt brush are the perfect duo when it comes to cleaning the car, and they’re even better with the boost mode on the Dyson. Dyson have come a long way since I brought them into my home a decade ago. There’s only one thing I would change and that’s a trigger lock so it does have to be held down manually to operate the stick vacuum. I imagine this would be difficult for arthritis sufferers.

Very impressive vacuum
I love a quality product and don’t mind spending decent money on something that really works as I would like it to. I don’t know how many $200-$500 vacuum cleaners I’ve been through but always found it hard to budget over a grand for vacuuming. Well this Dyson has proven the point, you get what you pay for.
Unpackaging the product and I’m impressed with how many bits and pieces they are and they look funky with lovely bright colours, looks too pretty to get dirty.
First use and wow it’s so quiet while impressing with powerful suction.

The Perfect No Messing Around No Fuss Mans Vacuum
In all seriousness the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra is an awesome cordless Vacuum with a massive range of uses that can literally replace your larger style Vacuum. Suitable for both Men and Women but seriously the guys are going to LOVE the no messing around functions of the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra!
Folks.. this is not just a ‘Cordless Addition’ style Vacuum to have ready to go for small clean ups, this is a fully fledged Vacuum thats capable of cleaning the entire house and yes, can replace the larger style vacuum if you’re in need of space savi...ng. Real Life Tests on Battery Life: Our house is a small to medium 2 storey 4 bedroom house with a combination of tile and carpet. Downstairs is all tile with one large rug and the upstairs is all carpet excluding 3 bathrooms/toilets. The Dyson V11 Absolute Extra when fully charged can easily vacuum our entire house with the setting on Medium/Auto. In Auto mode the V11 will automatically detect if the vacuum is on tile or carpet. What’s so good about this? Saving battery life as the V11 will slightly reduce suction when on tiled or hard floor and then increase suction when the head hits carpet. This is not only great for battery life it’s also extremely efficient in that you don’t need to change heads when vacuuming tiles and then onto carpet, one head can do the entire house. I am extremely impressed by this function alone. 2 Real Life Battery Tests: 1. Auto Mode: Entire first floor of the house tiled vacuumed, lounge vacuumed, large rug vacuumed as well as eves and walls vacuumed all on one battery charge. 2. Auto Mode: Whole 2 Storey house vacuumed includes 2 lounge rooms, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets, laundry, dinning and 2 large hallways - All on one charge which still had a remaining 5 or so minutes left on the battery.

Hands Down A Fantastic Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
As a Product Review Ambassador my review is completely unbiased and unswayed, and is based on my use of the appliance, in my home. I hope my experience with the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra Cordless Stick Vacuum helps you in assessing if the item is right for you.
I’ve previously used a typical barrel vacuum with cord which is awkward and especially difficult on stairs. I also purchased a robot vacuum appliance, which I often found frustrating. My home has timber flooring, floor rugs, carpet, and porcelain tiles in the bathroom, and I have long hai...

Convenient but heavy to use
First thought “wow this is heavy”. Although it is heavy and I can only use for short periods of time before my hand starts to hurt, it manoeuvres easily and the suction is strong. I could use on carpet and transition straight to tiles with almost no effort. The fact that it is cordless makes it convenient to grab and use for a regular quick run over to clean up with a dog and toddler.
Battery lasts for longer than expected but takes a long time to charge.
Overall it is a great vacuum but the weight of it is definitely an issue for me.

Feels like a piece of alien technology
The incredible suction power, long battery life, advanced screen interface, and interesting sound effects the motor emits made me feel like I was using a piece of alien technology. The vacuum is also so quiet that I can vacuum even when my toddler and newborn are sleeping. Further, the fantastic redesign of the dust bin disposal mechanism from earlier models means that you don’t need to get your hands dirty when emptying the dust bin.
In summary, the Dyson V11 is an incredible upgrade from my previous Dyson V6, and is equivalent of going from...dialup to cable broadband. Battery life The battery life of the Dyson V11 is a big upgrade over my Dyson V6, which had at most, 20 minutes of run-time (and only 6 minutes when using the boost mode). For the Dyson V11, the battery life lasts up to 60 minutes, but it depends on the type of cleaning undertaken. It has three modes of operation: auto, eco, and boost. Eco mode has the lowest suction power and noise level, but the longest battery life, while boost mode sacrifices battery life for incredible (but noisier) suction power. However, auto mode is the one I used the most, as Dyson has a type of sensor inside the cleaner head that allows the vacuum to know how much suction it needs for the type of job undertaken. Auto mode is the perfect blend of battery life and suction power. From my experience, the battery life was around 40 minutes when I used the auto mode.

Seriously the best cordless Vac period
We bought a v11 absolute extra
This is crazy good
I thought our old ducked Vac was doing a good job!!!
It doesn't compare to the V11
I was blown away with how much the v11 pulled out of our carpets
If your like me thinking its expensive
Just buy it
You wont regret it
The vacuum to get your significant other vacuuming!
If I'm honest, like most household appliances, the best type of vacuum to me is the one I don’t have to use because everyone else in my house wants to. If that's how I'm judging the Dyson Absolute Extra, then as I sit here on the couch writing this, watching my 4 year old vacuum up the food under the dining table while my one year old twins eagerly watch on, as I finish my cup of tea while it’s still hot and in (relative) silence, then I can't help but think it's well and truly earned a 5/5 and I give a quiet bow to its makers. Well done, Dyson.... Well done. We’re long time Dyson converts. Bag-less technology, cordless movement, improved air quality, attachments that easily help keep the car clean as well, the ability to disassemble the head and clean the rolls so it looks brand new again - we've been sold on Dyson for these reasons for a while. So when we were asked to trial the Absolute Extra we enthusiastically took it with open arms. And used it all 3,157,852 times a day when something in our house requires vacuuming. We have a 4 bedroom house with a mix of wooden floors, tiles and carpet and I love the Absolute Extra for all the same reasons I love our original Dyson. I have to admit I don't love that you have to take off the wand to empty the waste bin, and it does get slightly heavy when doing a full house because of it's bigger bin, but I'm stretching to find something to complain about here. I DO love that the display tells you exactly how many minutes (and seconds) you have in battery life so you don't get caught out with one patch of dusty wooden floor left, that I have seen more dust come out of the carpet in my children's bedrooms that I even knew existed, that I'm not chasing bits of fluff around the floor or having to go over something multiple times, that I have more than enough battery to do our whole house, that you can hear the suction adjusting as you move from wooden tile to carpet and that the bin empties in a swift, easy movement... "like a gun!" helpfully adds my 4 year old. Sigh. More than any of these things though, I love that I have never seen my significant other vacuum more. Some actual quotes from him: "This thing could suck a bowling ball through a garden hose." "It's space age!" "It's a MAN'S vacuum."
Amazing suction as usual, and an improvement on the few things lacking in the V10
As far as suction goes, the V11 is to which all other cordless vacuums should aspire. It even surpasses most of the corded vacuums I have owned, and personally, sets the standard for how well a room is cleaned (when on boost). From an aesthetic point of view, it is consistent with the previous Dyson cordless vacuums, with the minimalistic and yet highly "technological" design. The transparent bin being one of the most notable features, driving home the "bag-less" containment, as well as offering a sense of accomplishment as the user can visuall...y observe how much debris has been removed from a room. Extensive thought and technical trials have gone into the design and engineering, as every aspect (and the multitude of different tools) make this one of the most user-friendly vacuums on the market. One of the most notable changes in presentation is the LCD screen, from which the user can alter the vacuum functions and various alert modes (for low power etc). However the most useful feature allowed by the screen is the timer that provides a countdown for remaining battery life in each suction mode, allowing you to prioritise with the remaining power if required. The automatic suction adjustment means you can trust the V11 to alter its own suction depending on what it detects, although in the practical sense, the user would still have to change between different cleaner heads, and may disagree with the automatic suction power. The high torque cleaner head also has "gates" which can open and close, allowing for larger debris to be suctioned in. However I can't but feel this is a slightly superfluous function, as ideally all debris should be removed, regardless of size. The cleaner heads also have removable brush bars for untangling any caught up hairs, and although the "point and shoot" emptying system makes for easy removal, due to the fine size of particles of debris, I find that some dust will inadvertently attach to the outside of the bin, mostly due to static. As the one shortfall of the Dyson cordless range is the battery life (although due to the high power provided it seems a fair tradeoff), the V11 now comes with an easily removable battery, and extra batteries can be purchased for an additional price. This means you can have an additional charged battery ready for use, or else remove the battery for charging, which is much less cumbersome than charging the entire vacuum if you do not have the docking station attached to a wall-space. I find that I can get through approximately two carpeted rooms (on boost) before it will run out of power, although this varies with user speed and thoroughness. Overall, although it may not be absolutely perfect, it is definitely the most powerful and well-designed cordless vacuum currently in existence, and about as close to perfection as possible.
Wow! What an impressive “stick” vacuum cleaner.
** I wanted to give an update on this Vacuum Cleaner as I recently had to make a warranty claim. I must say I was very disappointed that the pole connection point to the dust bin had become loose. I noticed about a week before it became loose, that a creaking noise was coming from "somewhere" but I could not find where! Anyway, once I noticed the wobble, a couple of weeks before Christmas, I phoned the Dyson customer service to see what would need to be done, expecting them to say, send it away for fixing. To my surprise, the Customer Service w...oman was extremely helpful, and immediately found my registration online to advise a replacement part would be sent ASAP. It was a tremendous, relief of a no fuss replacement. The part was promptly sent and received just in time before Christmas! So yes, disappointed that I had to make a warranty claim but Customer Service was absolutely exceptional and easy to deal with.** I couldn’t wait to try this vacuum cleaner! Previous to this beefed up version, I happily had the V6 Dyson. This is the V6 on steroids - no joke. The suction from this stick cleaner is immense, you especially notice it on carpet. I have absolutely no lint showing on my rug anymore (see photo) first time in years! It’s totally lifted the pile and removes everything from it, and this is just in the ‘auto’ mode. Put it into boost and you better hold onto yourself. This Dyson V11 Absolute Extra has 3 different suction modes - eco, auto & boost. Eco is great for vacuuming my rubber backed mats I have set up in my kids play room, because the auto suck is just too strong - never had that problem before! I do however, love that you can just leave it in auto and the suction will adjust correctly to either tiles/timber or carpet therefore maximising battery use. With the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra, you get all the fun tools included to get into all those hard to get places. You even get a full size hardwood floor attachment too which is fantastic. It’s all velour, so no scratching the floors and no dust left behind. I do also like the size of both the main vacuum heads as I think any bigger, I would run into trouble in not getting into the tight spaces I have.

Jumps Through a Flaming Hoop
I have a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom townhouse in Sydney with wood floors, carpet, floor tiles and artificial grass in the courtyard. As far as occupants go, it’s just me and 2 crazy cats. I have a ‘shoes off at the door’ policy and for that to be respected, the floors, carpet and grass must always be clean. Although social isolating due to coronavirus has put an end to visitors, it doesn’t apply to airborne dust and dirt particles that continue to rain down regardless.
I believe the variety of surfaces, the challenges of cat hair and an obsession f...or clean floors, qualify me as an ideal candidate for road-testing a vacuum cleaner. In the past I’ve had both bag and bagless vacuum cleaners from leading brands such as Hoover, Electrolux and Dyson before I discovered the Miele Compact C1 (see my review titled ‘Simply the Best’). So, to get my accolades a vacuum cleaner would have to do the equivalent of ‘jumping through a flaming hoop’. I must admit I’ve never used a cordless vacuum cleaner before; simply on the advice they lack power. Plus, it’s my first time using a handstick vacuum; and I put that down to the fact I’m a bit of a traditionalist and my philosophy ‘if it works, don’t change it?’. Remember I said ‘jumping through a flaming hoop’ - well, the Dyson V11 has done just that. Mind you, it would want to given it will cost you over $1000. Now that’s considerably more than the average price for a quality vacuum cleaner which is around $400. Opening the box was a shaky start, all those brightly coloured futuristic looking pieces, my first thoughts were ‘Here we go, how the hell does this all go together?’ Well, I logged onto the Dyson website, watched the video and it was a piece of cake and I was an expert in minutes.

Questions & Answers
Can you buy a spare battery thru a reseller or only thru Dyson direct? Thanks Mick
While some resellers may carry batteries, we encourage purchasing direct from Dyson to ensure you get a genuine Dyson battery.
Genuine Dyson batteries have been engineered by the same teams who engineered the V11 to ensure it provides reliable performance. We can't ensure the performance, safety or durability of non-Dyson batteries.

Hello I’m looking to buy the V11 Absolute Extra but I’m worried as I heard they’re hard to work with on thick dense carpets which is what we have. Can you explain please if this is correct and if there’s a way around it. Thank you.
Hi Leora, we have one large and quite thick style rug, the V11 works quite well on that rug.
I’d love to be able to send you a video to show you this in action, but not sure how we can go about this through Product Review.
Thank you for your answer. I suspect that it’s different with rugs as they do not have an underlay like carpets do. I might give Dyson a call to discuss it. Thanks again.
Dyson machines are designed to work on many different types of carpet and its unusual to expect any difficulties.
Should you find it hard to push, the cleanerhead gives you the ability to reduce the seal it has with your floor type (by moving the selector switch to the "-") to make it easier to push.
That being said, we would encourage contacting your flooring manufacturer if you have any concerns about using a Dyson machine on your flooring.
