Battery only lasts 5 minutes
Battery only lasts 5 minutes!! Feels like it’s going to break in your hand while using it. After 6 months the battery failed and the spinning attachment broke so Dyson sent me a new replacement battery but same problem only last 5 minutes. It takes 2 full charges (4 hours) to vacuum my small 1 bedroom apartment. Other than that it does work well at vacuuming floors.
Purchased in for $800.
Use vacuum on all types of floor surfaces. Cleans well when in operation. Problem is that battery does not last as long as it states. Whole house cannot be cleaned in one hit. Even replacing the battery did not extend time to its full capacity. Vacuum does not present value for money.
Purchased in for $500.
Useless don’t buy it
The suction is only half as good as my old Miele. The dust clogs the filter up every few minutes. It’s constantly stopping because of said clog up with only a quarter full in the catcher. It’s cheap plastic charging station is clumsy. You have to constantly change the head pieces for different floor areas. It’s actually the worst product I’ve ever purchased. I expected so much more with all the hype. Waaaay over rated.
Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $700.
Poor suction unless used on max setting which limits battery life to less than 10 minutes. Always leaves dirt behind and has a tendency to flick dirt around, requires multiple passes to achieve a less than ideal clean. Battery takes way too long to charge considering runtime (definitely not on a par with other battery powered tools). Inlet of vacuum clogs far to easily. This is the 3rd and last Dyson we will ever buy, just doesn't work.

May as well have bought a cheap knock off
Terrible, doesn't operate on wooden floors without jumping all over the place and not picking up dirt. I've contacted customer service multiple times and been ignore and dismissed. Awful company.
Purchased in for $799.
12 months battery life max
Do not buy a Dyson! The battery not lasting is a known issue. Dyson replaced my battery first time, then the same problem happened and they are now refusing a replacement.
$800 vacuum cleaner now has a 2 minute battery life, and takes hours to charge.
Purchased in for $799.
the worst vacuum we have owned my v6 still out performs this one
we bought the animal version as we have visiting dogs which loose some fur but when using it for even minor bits of fur it starts surging as it has a bad blockage spot where it catches the fur just before entering the canister this is the 3rd dyson we own and is definitely putting me off purchasing another

Worst design ever
this is supposed to be for animal hair but the most useless vacuum cleaner I have ever had. Hair gets stuck in the tube every second and this stops functioning.
- V8 Animal
Dyson V8 Animal stopped working after 3 months.
Purchased a V8 Animal in mid November and was using it early Feb and it stopped working mid use with 3 blue lights showing. Online chat not helpful with problem. Lasted a bit over 2 months with normal use. Over rated over hyped. Suction is quite poor compared to a normal vacuum just get a normal one with a power head
Purchased in at The Good Guys for $635.
Very stupid, lack of consideration on design
Dyson is very expensive product but it's idea isn't good. Product change often for money like mobile phones. I'm complaining it is vacuum cleaner did not stated version on the main body, only on the removable stick, very confusing which model? Either v6 or v7 or v8 or v10? It seems not very smart of design.
I bought the V8 animal in June 2018. To illustrate how bad the suction is - it struggles to pick up a cotton thread from the carpet on max suction! Useless on hard floors, as it just pushes the dirt around. The product is expensive, has short battery life and doesn’t clean the floors anywhere near as well as my old corded vacuum which I now use because the Dyson is ineffective. I have to use on max suction and that only lasts 5mins, even then dirt just gets stuck in the stick, rather than even making it up into the bin/dust canister. This product is not robust, made with flimsy plastic that has cracked. I would not buy any Dyson product again.
Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $597.
Hopeless as a vacuum cleaner.
It fires even small particles across the floor and refuses to pick up almost anything. Its ok on carpets but hard floors forget it. I have a cheap Chinese corded vac that is so much better. At $900 its so overpriced. The battery on full power is hopeless. On low power it wont pick anything up.

Over-rated, over priced, under performance
Several weeks ago we demo'd the Dyson V8 Animal hand held vacuum cleaner in store. We were impressed by the power, suction and maximum run time of the unit. The salesperson said that these features depended on the way the unit was used but offered examples of people he knows swear by this product and the wide range uses undertaken.
I took delivery yesterday, came home, put the battery on charge and began reading the instruction manual.
I was immediately angered by the maximum run time......40 mins if used on lowest setting - but only when used ...
Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi for $499.
Most expensive piece of crap I have ever brought
Timber floors and 1 mat. Last 10 to 30 minutes now only 18 months old and keeps shutting down. Only used 1 or 2 times a week. Payed about $700 to $800. Never again will I get a Dyson.
Purchased in for $700.
Poor Build Quality
The vacuum works ok but it’s build quality is sadly lacking. The battery failed far too early and the filter gets blocked easily, causing the vacuum to have a asthma attack. Now there is a large crack through the body of the vacuum that has affected its performance. Contact with Dyson found me negotiating with an arrogant customer service operator who basically refused to offer any support other than trying to sell me another $800 unit. When this one eventually dies I’m going for an LG.

Questions & Answers
We have hardwood floors throughout our house but we also have a long haired dog. I know the V8 animal is designed for pets and we are very open to that fact, however my question is, would the standard Dyson V8 do the job just as well [or close to as well] given the hard floor consideration or do you really only recommend the animal or animal plus version even with hard floors? Huge thanks!
Hey there, Lauren, there's been a recent update to the Dyson V8™ vacuums, and the Dyson V8 Animal ™ isn't part of our current range. All the models currently listed here: https://www.dyson.com.au/prod...ucts/vacuum-cleaners/stick-vacuums/dyson-v8/overview# will be suitable to use in homes with pets on both hard floors and carpets. The Hair screw tool™ and Motorbar™ Cleaner head are fantastic new tools designed to help with hair-pick up. A Fluffy™ cleaner head is a handy specialised tool for hard floors. At the time of writing, this tool may be purchased separately for Dyson V8™ vacuums.
Can't put the top back into the canister. Any ideas?
Did you ha e to change the battery?
Once you’ve got the bin open, feel free to remove and reattach the cyclone and bin - it may help to realign things if the parts had become slightly out of alignment. As shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HasqpSd3Xfw...If you're still struggling feel free to drop in to the front counter at a Dyson owned service centre with your machine, the counter team will be happy to help, our service centres are located here: https://www.dyson.com.au/dyson-service-centres
Why isnt a crevice tool included in the V8 origin package?
Hi Di, each models machine variation will have different accessories included with the machine. The Dyson V8™ Origin just happens to be a model with less attachments.

As of December 2020, the Dyson V8 is the highest-rated cordless and stick vacuum cleaner on ProductReview. As well as being the highest rated, the V8 is also more afordable than other Dyson cordless and stick vacuum cleaners - such as the V11, which is around $300 more expensive.
- The V8 series includes 4 different vacuum cleaners, with a $100 difference in price
- Two power options: Max Mode for extra power, which is good for tough clumps of dirt or pet hair; and Powerful Mode, which allows for longer usage, but may provide a slighlty weaker suction
- A 5-hour charge provides up to 40 minutes of use
Points of praise:
- Some reviewers purchased the Dyson V8 after owning the V6 and reported noticing an improvement. Although they didn’t claim to be unhappy with the V6, many said that the V8 was more powerful and picked up a larger quantity of dirt and dust.
- The highest power setting (Max Mode) latest longer than expected. One reviewer was pleased that they could vacuum their whole apartment while still having plenty of battery life left.
- The vacuum was lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, meaning that people could clean hard-to-reach crevices and corners of the house.
- Three large, shedding dogs proved to be no match for this vacuum cleaner. A happy reviewer mentioned that they could finally remove the mess their dogs had left behind.
