We've had the really big and heavy Dyson upright replaced with a smaller and lighter Dyson upright, and now we've replaced our long dead Dyson stick vacuum with a new Dyson V8.
The plastics have inconsistent colours, to the point that it looks like a reject.
The main issue is that it is purchased as a wall mount vacuum. The wall mount has oblong holes for securing it to the wall, but Dyson have failed to provide rubber grommets. The Dyson Service Center said "you have to go to your local hardware store and work out how to mount it" That's ridiculous.
I understand different wall types, but there are a couple of common types and supplying the grommets at a minimum seems like the only reasonable level of quality product.
Purchased in at Dyson for $499.
That's hilarious. Just lie it down on the floor somewhere near an electrical socket.
At least you didn't offer to resolve it just for me, when it is in my opinion a fault in service to all your customers.

Bought this three months ago. Has worked fine and done a great job until today. I switch it on and the engine ‘pulses’ before stopping indicating a blockage. I clean the dus bucket after every use and have washed the filters every month everything is clean so where is the blockage? Phone Dyson ‘support’ every time I try I’m on hold for 10-15 minutes before getting cut off without speaking to anyone. Finally after the third call I get through to someone. She is quite helpful and starts trying to solve the problem only to be cut off again halfway...
Read more through the call. I call back wait on hold again and get through to a new service assistant who starts to help me again before being cut off again! This time she calls me back. Eventually we establish that despite cleaning and caring for the machine correctly the rear filter is blocked - they are supposed to last 6-12 months. Because it is so new they agree to send me a new one however if this happens again it will be ‘user error’ and they won’t be able to help me. Next part the filter will take 7-10 days to get to me. No problem where can I buy one? At the service centre in our capital city. But ring up before you go to make sure they’re in stock. Where do I ring? The same number I’ve just called going through the whole get cut off no help situation again. For the price of a Dyson I would expect much better. The previous cordless vac I bought from Kmart for $80.00 worked with no issues for 2 years. I thought in buying Dyson I was buying a quality machine that would give years of trouble free service!?!Purchased in for $700.

This Vacuum has great power and is easy to charge and has a few useful tools. The 2 things I would like to be changed in a new model is the button that you have to press for it to stay on, it's exhausting holding that button continuously while vacuuming, it should have been hold down and it would get pressed and then you can vacuum and when you are done, you should be able to release the button. Also another battery would have been super useful to increase cleaning time.

I can never finish the whole house because the battery dies. Always returning to old vacuum cleaner to finish the job. After leaving the Dyson on charge overnight, you would think that it could last at least 1 whole hour.

Hi Fran, from a full charge, this machine can achieve a run time of up to 7 minutes on max mode. On standard mode, a run time of up to 30 minutes with a motorised floor tool attached, or up to 40 with a non-motorised floor tool.

Initially the Dyson worked well then for no reason it would only last a couple of minutes on high but will last 20 minutes on low speed.
Changing filters did not help.

I like the fact that it's light weight and very manoeuvrable and is great for using in the car BUT when you use it on Max mode for awesome suction the battery drains ridiculously quickly. The regular suction mode is very ordinary. Not worth the $ I paid.

Paid $799 early 2019 (HN bonus gift card got the deal). Was pretty exciting and lots of grunt. We have polished timber floors with a few rugs. Used to clean the car a few times too. Pretty comfortable for me but a bit heavy if youre getting spiders webs etc out of cornices etc. After 8-9 months the battery barely gave us 8 minutes (on normal mode - about 3-4mins on ultra power or with the powered head). Usage was about 3 or 4 times a week so maybe the constantly taking it off and putting it back on the charger affected it but after payin...
Read moreg for a replacement battery after 18 months that has completely failed. I the middle of that I didn't use it for about 6 months and just got a Ryobi One+ Stick vac skin which I have the batterues for anyway for $199 and that was perfect (picked up everything the Dyson did but had a smaller cannister) but I use it for my workshop now. Couldn't really see the value in paying another $800 as fundamentally it doesn;t function any better and they're no easier to clean the heads than any other device. Maybe the filters are bit better but these consumables add up to an extortionate amount and when the battery claps out twice then they're completely useless. Bottom line is there's not enough discernible difference between the V8 and something less than half the price to warrant buying anorther Dyson. The tech has mostly been copied these days and I found a Bosch with changeable batteries for $399 which is lighter and does exactly what the Dyson including the easy empty.Purchased in at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Electronics for $799.

The Dyson V8 Animal with interchangeable accessories is a handy, cordless stick vacuum cleaner for many home jobs. The transparent canister shows how much dust has been collected. It can be emptied without a bag replacement being needed. The brush in the larger of the two motorised rotating-brush heads is now usefully near full-width for close-to-the-wall vacuuming on both sides, having a direct-drive motor built into the brush core rather than working via a belt. Swapping fittings is easy.

Read moreion for convenient storage and charging near a power point, though the charger can be connected manually without it. There is a switch for the two speeds. The faster speed should be used minimally as it much shortens the time between battery recharges. My wife does not have strong hands and finds the canister opening action much too heavy. Also, having to keep holding the trigger switch down while using the unit is tiring for her. Dyson persist with this battery-saving design and do not fit a hold-on latch. Reliability? Let me say that I finished up buying a second one just to have one going while the other is out of service.Purchased in at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances for $600.

We have owned our V8 Absolute for 4 years and use it daily on soft and hard floors - the absolute comes with a changeable hard floor head and pet hair head. It sucks great on all surfaces but we are now on our third Dyson battery as they keep failing after about 14- 16 months of use. A new battery run time is about 15 minutes on high suction and 30 minutes on low - during 12 months of use battery life slowly reduces to about 10 minutes on high and 20 minutes - at the 16 months we only get 1 minute on high or 2 minutes on low. New original Dyson batteries cost $109 each. Pretty frustrating for such an expensive vacuum.

So disappointed with the V8 Dyson Stick, had a V6 Animal for a few years as I had two dogs. One of the small wheels broke on the head, and this couldn’t be fix. So I brought buy a new head, with a few months after that the battery stopped charging. I decided to up grade and buy the V8 after spending money on the old one to have it not work. When I first got the V8 it was great, better suction, more power and could get most of the house done. A few years on and now can only vacuum half of the house as the battery goes flat very quickly. Only thing to do is buy another battery, so over spending so much money on the Vacuum & to have to true around a few year later and buy parts.

Battery does not last long. It died in less than 2 years. I can't find my receipt so I end up calling them after 2 years which is out of warranty already. I have to pay for battery. I am not happy to pay so I refused. I will never buy Dyson anymore unless they fix the issue with battery.

Works well however battery stopped charging after 2yrs10 months. Dyson said I hadn’t ‘looked after’ the battery properly..all I have done is vacuum. New battery only has 1 year warranty. Should be better for $800

I bought a very well recommended product and after 3 and half years of use, the battery does not last more than 5 mins on max mode, the small motorised head has fallen apart and I can't use it and the carpet floor cleaner has bits of plastic breaking off. I have a small house at 14 sqaures and most of it is tiles and floor boards. At $800 I was expecting this to last a bit longer. I have had other brands of cleaners and have never had issues like this. I originally bought this to make vacuuming easier with a cordless product. Not sure if I will buy another one if I can get cheaper cleaners out there with same specifications.

We have hardwood floors throughout our house but we also have a long haired dog. I know the V8 animal is designed for pets and we are very open to that fact, however my question is, would the standard Dyson V8 do the job just as well [or close to as well] given the hard floor consideration or do you really only recommend the animal or animal plus version even with hard floors? Huge thanks!

As of December 2020, the Dyson V8 is the highest-rated cordless and stick vacuum cleaner on ProductReview. As well as being the highest rated, the V8 is also more afordable than other Dyson cordless and stick vacuum cleaners - such as the V11, which is around $300 more expensive.
Features:
- The V8 series includes 4 different vacuum cleaners, with a $100 difference in price
- Two power options: Max Mode for extra power, which is good for tough clumps of dirt or pet hair; and Powerful Mode, which allows for longer usage, but may provide a slighlty weaker suction
- A 5-hour charge provides up to 40 minutes of use
Points of praise:
- Some reviewers purchased the Dyson V8 after owning the V6 and reported noticing an improvement. Although they didn’t claim to be unhappy with the V6, many said that the V8 was more powerful and picked up a larger quantity of dirt and dust.
- The highest power setting (Max Mode) latest longer than expected. One reviewer was pleased that they could vacuum their whole apartment while still having plenty of battery life left.
- The vacuum was lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, meaning that people could clean hard-to-reach crevices and corners of the house.
- Three large, shedding dogs proved to be no match for this vacuum cleaner. A happy reviewer mentioned that they could finally remove the mess their dogs had left behind.
