Ripped off customer
Hired a car and realised there is a 50mm hairline crack on the windshield, we’re driving to the great ocean road from the airport, so it’s too late to return it anyway. As I was driving it got bigger and bigger. I rang the office how much it will cost and the guy over the phone said approximately $150 to replace the windshield and I called a local repair shop and they gave me a quote $260 and will take about 3hours. I thought it would be cheaper to let the rental shop repair it. When we returned the car the guy at the desk said he needs to free...ze $380 from my credit card for deposit and he will refund the rest of fund back later. Well I didn’t see any other choice and they took $380 and nothing happened for a while and I rang them to find out how’s refunding going but they told me “there’s no refund for me” That’s the end of story. I don’t know whether the guys were racist cuz they have good customer feedbacks here
We were left at the airport for an hour with two irate toddlers waiting for the airport shuttle. We gave up waiting and got a taxi to the depot after we were told we could not speak to the shuttle bus driver to find out if we were in the correct pick up location. Upon arriving at the depot we were informed that they do not accept Apple Pay and that if we did not take up their insurance we would have to pay an additional 1k security deposit. Staff were lovely but the business is and it’s practices are of poor standing. I would advise to just pay the extra and rent from the airport directly.
Do not use this company
Terrible service, took way to long to pick up from airport and transfer. The staff behind the desk were very rude and not welcoming whatsoever to all the customers that day. The insurance that was included in the booking site was not recognised by the company and I had to pay additional insurance once there (as well as all the other customers there on the day who had the same issue). Was almost forced to buy more insurance by rude staff threatening me with 4k fees if an incident occurred. Very unprofessional, will not recommend to anyone. Pleas...e fix your communication issues and align what your terms and conditions say on your websites and rental providers/partners, especially regarding insurance. Multiple people had the same issue with this on the day. Fix it and be more respectful to your customers.
We arrived at Maroochydore Airport at 1.05pm on a Sunday our flight was delayed 20 minutes. We were travelling with 5 Adults and 2 toddlers. We called Eastcoast to tell them we had arrived and were told that the office had closed at 1pm and would have to come back tomorrow to collect the car. We were stranded at the airport along with other customers. We had never received any communication telling us the office would be closed at 1pm.
If you have all day to wait to get your already pre booked vehicle then go for it .
Too slow and too much extra sales attempts at pick up when you have lost hours waiting in line already. Avoid
Definitely will not use again - filthy and overpriced
I rented a car through Carflexi at a price including full insurance. When I get to pick up the car I’m left waiting for over half an hour then I have to wait even longer as the car seat which I had booked was not installed in the car. The car seat they installed was absolutely revolting and torn. Nobody wants to put their child in a seat in this condition. It would have been cheaper and quicker to buy a brand new car seat had I known. I then finally get to do the paperwork with the company and the lady is writing down all these handwritten figu...res on a piece of paper and comes to the conclusion that I in fact have to pay them $360 instead of the gap of $100 as per the booking if I want full insurance. She told me if I don’t pay the extra money the excess would be $4000 regardless of fault. I explained that I booked full insurance and she tells me no you don’t have full insurance you only have hail damage, then she says oh no actually you don’t have that either but couldn’t tell me what the full insurance on my booking meant if it didn’t mean full insurance. After going around in circles and getting completely frustrated at the lack of knowledge by the lady serving me I reluctantly pay the money as I want to hurry up and leave after wasting so much time there waiting. The lady then takes my licence to photocopy and after asking her for it back she says she gave it back to me...she then found it in her photocopier. A few days later CarFlexi take over $100 from my account. I call East Coast Rentals who claim to know nothing about the “booking agent” yet they have all my details for the booking, this is completely dishonest. They advertise prices which are completely false. I will stick with Select Rent A Car in Gold Coast who provide quick efficient reliable and honest service with clean car seats for kids.
Don't book via discovercars.com as east coast advertise through them.
Never book Eastcoast cars through discovercars.com, especially don't use them for Hobart Tasmania.
Booking made online for Hobart airport Terminal pickup (there were 2 options), received email 2 days before due to collect and advised they changed collection location to Hobart city. Called to confirm booking made and was told by first person Jacek their company had better things to do and customers calling in and could not investigate about the collection then when I spoke to manager she advised they could not look into it as being on the phone ...
Cheating consumers into signing contracts when renting a car
I rented a car at the airport store of BRISBANE AIRPORT in eastcoast on the morning of December 5th. The order number is BA040747. The staff at the time asked me if I wanted to buy insurance. I said I had already purchased the insurance on RENTALCAR, so he said to check it. He told me that I had checked in the system that I purchased the insurance, and the insurance was also in EASTCOAST Yes, then let me sign for the car. After I confirmed with the staff, I signed for the car. But I received EASTCOAST’s deduction information at 11 o’clock in th...e evening, saying that I bought their insurance. It turns out that their staff cheated us at that time, and then added the insurance to the contract to cheat us. Insurance purchased. Then I asked the company's after-sales service to deal with this matter, and they said that we would let us go to an external complaint.
One Staff member friendly the other scowling in the background but when l booked through agents car rentals l was not given proper information about insurance being offered l paid 150 dollars for insurance and was under the impression we did not have on hold 1000 dollars from my account . I could of just paid extra money with your company and there would be no hold . In today’s COVID a lot of people do not have extra money to have on hold in their bank accounts . This made my travels difficult as l am a pensioner
I think your company should in...
In need of a shake up..!
Slow suspicious and unhelpful. Bond payment poorly handled. Car was as requested but poorly presented. Travel and yes..
Having used rental services w/w I was unimpressed and felt the fee was excessive.. Marketing of insurance I did not appreciate as I was privately insured..
Shocking customer service

I booked a hire car with East Coast Car rentals for pick up 18/07/20 and return 19/07/20 from Brisbane Airport (booking No R2FVJL). I called East Coast car rental prior to booking car with a few questions. 1. Was hail damage covered 2. If taking out the zero excess what would the tyre cover include and 3. What were the security deposits.
The customer service lady was very help full with answering all my questions, so I went ahead and booked the hire car with the zero excess option.
Security deposit that i was made aware of reduce excess to $3...50 and security deposit would be $350. Reduce excess to $0 and security deposit would be $0 Went to pick up my hire on the today 18/7 to find that they are expecting me to pay a $1000 security deposit AS IM A NEW CUSTOMER!!!!. The gentleman behind the desk spoke to the manager and they refused to wavie this due to my excess reduction. I ask to speak to the manager and they refused!! They would not help me as I could not remember the lady's name who I spoke with prior to making the booking and they could not point out anywhere on my conformation that this was there policy So I then left and went over to Alpha hire car and booked one with them much better service all round
East Coast Car Rentals – do not provide them your credit card number
I am so angry!
Just a note to let people know: Do not get close to “East Coast Car Rentals”, they cheat their customers. They are cheap, but take much more from your credit card, without your permission, against your permission, as they already have the credit card number.
I rented a car in Cairns, Australia on February 4, 2020, their insurance proposal seems way too high, so I did not buy it. But allowed them to freeze 1000 AU$ from my credit card (I fully agreed and gave my card to use) and I drove away.
I did scratch the car and stated so,...when I returned the car (February 9, 2020), stating I will pay all the damages (it was a scratch). The elderly representative woman informed me that they will first charge me, before knowing the damage cost, 4,400 AU$, because, as the elderly representative woman stated “You should have bought our insurance” - meaning punishing me for not contributing to their profits. Of course, I clearly stated at that moment that I do not allow them to withdraw any money from my account (except to froze 1000 AU$), wait for the damage cost and I will cover it in full, even if it will be more than 4,400 AU$ as I felt obligated, for not buying insurance. Two days later they reported that the total damage was 706.66 AU$, high cost for a scratch but seems OK. When I got back home (a month later), I found out that they did withdraw 4,400 AU$, against my permission. I was waiting for them to return the rest of my money (4,400 AU$ - 706.66 AU$), but for 3 months they neglected to return it, so I sent them a few mails, to send the rest my money, and requested compensation for this violent act for the exchange rate from AU$ to US$ and to Israel Shekel and back to AU$, interest for my money laying in their bank for 3 months and for wasting my time, to get my money back. They did not agree to pay any compensation. I am now suing them for all these items, and they will pay for the local lawyer too and for my trip to Australia, to the courthouse. My lesson from this “East Coast Car Rentals” is: cheap is eventually very expensive, especially if they have your credit card number, and need unlawful profits to cover their “cheap” cost. Cheap company, “East Coast Car Rentals”, ECCR.
The worst customer service imaginable
Their attitude towards my daughter and myself when collecting the car after a communication glitch between them and the Flight Centre was shocking. No care factor for us at all

Anyone picked up from Melbourne airport using the shuttle? Any specific info regarding this location?
How much does it cost to take out insurance when renting a car
We paid for insurance with the booking which was with a 3rd party, East Coast Rentals then tried to sell insurance to my husband again. I have worked in Travel so understood that we had already paid for it. It appears the staff are on commission for insurance sold so don't really care if you pay it twice. We had to leave a credit card guarantee with East Coast Rentals which is released when the car is returned without damage.
To answer your question Angela, the daily rate for Damage Cover varies depending on the length of your rental and whether you want to reduce your excess from $4400 to $385 or $4400 to $0.00. On average though around $20 - $22 per day. Two other things to consider also. If you are booking through one of our online agent partners as opposed to direct through our own website or call centre these agents also sell their own competing products. That's fine we would rather a customer travel in one of our cars covered for damages than not. However they are typically more expensive than our own cover options and because the cover is with a third party instead of us direct we will still need to take a $1000 security bond before releasing the vehicle. Taking our cover negates the need for a $1000 bond. Also if there is major damage to the vehicle we reserve the right to take the full excess from your nominated credit card and return any remainder to you once the vehicle is fixed. If you have cover sold by an Online Agent you would go back to them to claim monies needed to repair our vehicle.
Does anyone have experience with the Hobart branch? Our flight times are 12.50 pm Friday & 1.30 pm Monday so I'm hoping there is little traffic plus their location is very close to the airport. I'm mostly concerned as I'm taking some elderly family members on a short holiday and was aiming to use their shuttle for myself and to pick up / drop off the other passengers from the airport. Am a little concerned the age/condition of their people movers.
