Lasted years and was very happy with the product – Had it for 10years, only now it’s started making a noise. Worth every cent. Thank you for such a great product that lasted so long. Show details

Just a few seasonal years use. Fire Hazard! – After only a few seasons use, this machine stopped spinning with only two towels inside. Required stop, start and manual hand spin to help drum turn again. Electrical fire smell starting to omit from Machine. It's out of warantee. Electrolux advised they will fix, if I pay for it... I'd rather boycott Electrolux and buy a more trusted product elsewhere.

No problems what so ever – Purchased 7 yrs ago and only used a few times whilst living in Tassie. Dryer hasn't been used for more than over 4 yrs. Had to use the other day and still works perfectly. Over five years of service – This great unit actually stopped working for our family on the weekend, which was a real shame as it does dry very well. I guess I can't complain too much, as my title suggests, we got over five years of service out of this unit. Pretty good run in today's era of value engineering and planned obsolescence. Anyhow, after some googling, I… Read more

found this review page and saw the comments on the main electronic board (or is it just the relays?) dying being a common fault. So I found the PCB on eBay (Hint: search for: 133300128 Electrolux Dryer P.C.B. EDV505-EDV605) and dropped $100 on the replacement. It arrived a couple of days later.

The install takes about 5-10 minutes: Old board out and the new board in. It's just a few screws, clips and connectors. Most importantly, the dryer is back up and running. The old board was manufactured in 2011, the new one in 2017. Here's hoping I get a few more years out of it.

Excellent – Excellent dryer. Works great since 2012 - serves all our need, has airing mode that saves energy (no heating). Recently stopped spinning - I diagnosed the fault to be the main power control/logic board (relay dead), replaced it and it is back to full functioning capacity again. Made-in-Australia (I think) quality this is something I'll be looking… Read more

Easy to Operate – For an entry level clothes dryer this is great. It is very light and has a lot of the features of the more expensive brands. Great choice for the value conscious. The large bowl accepts a big load and the short cycle is ideal for those short of time.

No customer support from electrolux – It was great at first but soon started playing up, contacted company several times with no response, zero customer service its like they try to avoid you so they dont have to deal with the issue. Would not buy this brand again, highly recommended you dont either if you want customer service.  Show details

Dissatisfied – Have had this dryer for just over 2 years. It runs for no more than 10 mins at a time, no matter what cycle it is on or what is in it. Have thoroughly cleaned filter as suggested (dirty filter gives incorrect moisture reading), but has not helped. Very unhappy, as warranty on this item ran out at the 2 year mark.  Show details

Very dangerous and terrible customer service – This dryer clearly has serious manufacturer problems and should have been recalled. I have been using mine for only 18 months - and only in winter. Like everyone else has experienced, the barrel has stopped turning. It occasionally works if I spend time turning it by hand first. However, when it does work, it smells very strongly of smoke and is a… Read more

fire hazard so I am too scared to try to keep using it. Newspaper articles were published on the problems consumers were experiencing with this dryer in 2015 - and yet it was not recalled. I am now trying to get Electrolux to repair or replace the dryer as they are obliged to do under the Australian Consumer Law (in accordance with the statutory consumer guarantees). Several emails have gone unanswered and now that i have followed up by phone, they are insisting that they will only assist if I pay for it. (Despite their consumer law obligations and the fact that this is a known manufacturer fault with the product.) I am surprised they do not have a better consumer law compliance program and training for customer service staff given the ACCC enforcement action that some of their competitors (i.e., LG) have recently been subject to.

Dryer was okay for 5-6 years then died suddenly – We bought this about 5-6 years ago to replace a Hoover dryer we'd had for nearly 20 years! (Hubby bought it when he first moved out of home!). In that time it worked well, although did leave a lot of condensation in the laundry. Suddenly, 2 weeks ago, it made a thumping sound like a bearing had let go and then stopped working. While I would love… Read more

to get more than 5 or so years out of a product (like our last one!) Whitegoods and electronics don't seem to be made to last any longer and the cost to fix means you may as well just replace. I don't mind electrolux products but their lack of longevity means I'll only buy them if they're competitive and it's worthwhile my doing so.

The most dangerous appliance I have owned – I purchased the Electrolux EDV5051 Clothes Dryer in August 2014. The appliance had worked as expected for the first couple of years. Even in ‘Delicate’ mode the synthetic fabrics were getting damaged. You could… Read more

Awful, I am done with Electrolux – My husband brought this home in Jan. 2015, I was immediately disappointed spotting the Electrolux name as I had recently replaced our Electrolux washing machine and had nothing but problems with an Electrolux dishwasher two years before. dryer was pretty cheap. Although the sensor wasn't great (almost never dried a load completely or kept going long after it should have stopped) it managed its job with supervision. It lasted just over two years (although to be fair, I don't use it during the dry months so it's really done maybe 9 months' work) and now just won't turn on. No lights, just dead. I should have told hubby NO ELECTROLUX! Please, Electrolux, don't bother posting that "you'd like to speak with me about this issue if I call you". I did call, it is out of warranty, the fee to have someone out to look at it in a rural area is huge. My hubby doesn't have time to look at it, so off I go to Harvey Norman for something other than Electrolux....

Terrible product, worse customer service – Dryer is very rarely used and stopped working after only a couple of years, experiencing the same problem as hundreds of others on this site - the drum wouldn't spin without a push-start. repair/refund/replacement for a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law's consumer guarantee - Electrolux's customer service staff were quite unhelpful, refused to honour their requirements under the consumer laws, and advised that I would need to pay a $145 call-out fee (plus any additional labour costs if the dryer was repairable).

After writing the dryer off as a bad experience, and hopefully a one-off, another relatively new Electrolux appliance in my house has broken down with faulty electrical wiring, and Electrolux are again displaying the same poor customer service when trying to get this second appliance repaired/replaced.

Never will I purchase an Electrolux product again.

Scorched and scared – I purchased this dryer approx. September 2014 as a replacement for another brand that had been a family favorite. pointless as clothing was almost always not dry and requiring a second application.

Until yesterday when a small load was started. After a considerable time I assumed the load must have finished, when the house began to smell like scorched clothing. I found the dryer still operating, with all the lights of the machine off, and the clothes inside too hot to touch with bare hands. The machine could not be shut down without disconnecting power.

After the overheated clothes were removed and the machine cooled, I checked the filter as usual for lint buildup, including air exit vent, and there was none. There is no lint to be found hiding anywhere else.

I'm too scared to use this machine now. It is in my laundry, out of sight and unable to be monitored. For a $450+ machine, 2.5yrs is not good enough value.

Not spinning, Not heating - Two CHEAP and EASY faults to fix. - Overall - happy with dryer. **UPDATE – I have had my EDV605 for 5 yrs 5 months and it has just packed it in. 2yr Factory warranty plus 3 yr Extended warranty - total 5 years - just didn't help me. By reading all these reviews it looks like I done well to last this long. FAULT DETAILS : Press start and drum will attempt to turn with small "clunk" sound. Will only spin maybe 1/2 cm. … Read more

All lights and sounds works and all buttons operate fine. SOLUTION : The electrical board had failed. I paid $155 from a local store that had in stock to fix before the Easter long weekend - however - if you can wait a week for postage, these boards are available on ebay for under $100 free postage. INSTALLATION : Easy, 2 screws on either side of front panel - no need to remove dryer from wall if mounted. 2 screws on inside of cover hold panel in. Everything else can just unplug and swap over to new board. ****** A licensed sparky "should" be used for this. .... just make sure you UNPLUG unit from wall before doing anything.********

My dryer spins fine now and works again - the board replacement fixed it. Unfortunately, it no longer heats.... NEW FAULT DETAILS : When dryer starts, the heating element will start to warm up - this takes about 10 seconds to fully heat. After about 6-7 seconds of operation the heating turns off. The dryer will finish the cycle - 60/90 mins - whatever we selected, but all clothes will remain damp. I believe this is caused my a failed Thermistor - The exhaust sensor in the unit. It appears the sensor thinks their is no moisture in the exhaust, then turns off the heat as it thinks the clothes are dry. I think I may have damaged this when I was poking around inside the unit doing some original fault finding. SOLUTION : New sensor (I think)! This is part of the entire wiring harness. I have ordered this from my local store but wont be available until Monday next week. This will be a bit more involved to change over as the back will need to come off, the drum and motor removes and harness changed from the inside. Again, this should be done by a professional, BUT,.... just make sure it is unplugged!!!! If you are willing to give these repairs a go, they are not too hard, once you look inside the dryer you see they are very basic. And you could save a fortune.

I will update next week and let you know if replacing the wiring harness has sorted my heating problem.

Apart from my "non-spinning" fault and the "non-heating" fault which I think I caused myself, The last 5 years have been trouble free for me. I quite like the dryer, it is easy to use and the 6kg drum is a good size for us ( 2 Adults and 2 young kids). Also worth a mention is that we are heavy users of this dryer, at least 5 days a week, and probably averaging around 10 loads a week.

****UPDATE****

Non-Heating fault. Well, I thought that I had a problem with the sensor in my wiring harness - this was incorrect. I also thought that I had caused the non-heating fault myself - unfortunately this was correct. I am hesitant to even admit it - but the non-heating fault was caused by me putting the fan blade on backwards when putting machine back together from initial pull down..... yes backwards - only discovered this when noticed that less air was blowing out the front vent.. Flipped the fan, put it back together and now its all good....went to bed feeling rather silly.

On the plus side - I now have a machine with a new board and a new wiring harness. If I do encounter any other issues in the future - I definitely give the repairs a go - the parts are readily available and reasonably priced.
