You should be handy – My review is based on my experience. Belt falls off the drum. Have replaced it multiple times. Finally the belt was worn, put a new one in. Now lock is broke. Not many people can be handy and fix or have the time to fix such issues. Maybe it's a great machine, maybe I got a lemon. Show details

motor does not spin – I have had this machine for about 7 years and the motor does not spin the drum. No fault codes appear. I had a look at the motor underneath and could see one of the brushes was worn. A quick google search revealed this is quite common for a unit this old. It would not be economical to pay someone to come out and fix it, however i found new brushes… Read more

Good machine. But is now unbalanced – II have had this machine for about 5 yrs now. It hasn't missed a beat. Washes well, and easy to use. However since we have moved house it has a mind of its own, during spin cycles it moves across the laundry floor. Although amusing to the kids it's a bit concerning and getting annoying. How can this be fixed please? need info about balancing my machine please, moves during spin cycle Show details

Fantastic - best washer we've had – Cleans everything very well, good options for programs, seems to be easy on the clothes. Very quiet as it sits next-door to our teenage sons bedroom and he's never once complained if we had it running after hours. We ran a rinse every few months and cleaned the filter regularly and never had an issue until this month (8 days out of warranty) so going to try an appeal to the warranty people to come have a look at it.  Show details

Inherent Design Flaws although still working – I purchased this machine around 7 years ago, it's still 'working' although I've encountered numerous issues. Firstly, these machines have a well earned reputation for pooling water inside the door seals- mine is no exception. You really need to use a chamois or rag to dry the area out after every wash (which is a real p.i.t.a.) My seal is pretty… Read more

mouldy and I plan on replacing it, albeit the procedure looks fairly laborious. Secondly, the machine walks across the laundry when it has a big load, although this can be mitigated by a bit of d.i.y. bracketing/using a non slip mat. Unfortunately you can't do much about the noise of the drum banging around. Finally there was some sort of electronic sensor issue (complete with error code) that saw the machine stop working a few years ago. Fortunately I was able to perform a soft reset and that particular problem hasn't reared its head since. TO PERFORM A SOFT RESET: have the main dial set to the off position and hold down both the 'start' and 'delay' buttons. With these buttons depressed turn the dial one notch clockwise, when the lights flash you can let go of 'start' and 'delay'. Turn the main dial clockwise, one slow step at a time until you reach the off position. The last step is to wait one minute then turn the main dial to any setting before moving it back to the off position. I hope this advice helps a few people out, all in all the machine washes and spins clothes reasonably well but the water pooling, balance issues and electronic bugs are indefensible design flaws from a company as large as Electrolux. I doubt I'll consider another product of theirs going forward.

Should last longer then 5 years! – Only used for max of 3 person household. Very disappointed that it only lasted 5 years along with the dryer that I purchased at at same time (as it is now dead too). Used for work and personal items and never very big loads. It stopped spinning almost 4 months ago and I had to get a repair consultant to fix it, about a month later it stopped… Read more

again. Same repair man came to have a look at again and fixed again but said if it happeneds again then the motor will need to be changed (would cost around $400). It seems after reading a lot of comments here the the failure of the electric motor brushes is a very common fault. Very frustrated at the moment as I have had to by a new washing machine and now the dryer has died so will have to pay money to fix or buy new one of those now too. Not happy with Electrolux products at all.

THE FINAL STRAW! UPDATE ON POSTS FROM 2012 AND 2015 – NEVER BUY ELECTROLUX Read my previous reviews. After 5 years of constant breakdowns, 2 pump changes, 1 electrical board change, 1 door catch change, pools of water in the bellows (grey rubber) and everything in between IT HAS STOPPED AGAIN! Don't waste your time with consumer protection either. There was OBVIOUSLY some defect with… Read more

this model and Electrolux should have replaced the machines but no, they are happy to have their reputation trashed by unhappy ex-customers.

Now it starts, pumps water then just stops. Looks like an electrical board problem AGAIN.

Electrolux technician just left. $145 later.... electrical board...AGAIN! He didn't recommend fixing it because of the cost. Gave me a "voucher" for a $145 refund from the company IF I purchase another machine from them!

INTO THE RUBBISH BIN after so so so many issues I would NEVER recommend this brand.

Mine has lasted 10 years…still going strong. Great quality, love the delay start function. No faults – Great features. Cycle options are useful. I’ve done gentle wool wash on clothes that are hand wash only. I’ve done large loads, it’s hard to pick any problems with this.

Regular breakdowns – Electrolux EWF10831 We were happy with this washing machine for the first year. The first breakdown was due to worn electric motor brushes. The fourth breakdown involved intermittent stopping part way through a cycle. … Read more

This is a well know fault with this model, requiring a control circuit board replacement.

We did not bother to fix this. We got just over 4.5 years of interrupted service from this machine.

Uh oh, another one bites the dust – Our machine's lost its will to live all of a sudden. You'd think this would last longer than seven years! Looks like the motor, or the brains (computer) have given up the ghost. I'm hopeful that the after-sales service is somewhat better than the washing machine itself. It's either that or start frightening our friends with our odd smell.  Show details

Same Problem as Mitz Yao - Washing Machine Failed after Five Years – We bought this washing machine five and a half years ago to replace a top loading machine that had functioned perfectly for about 12 years. Like Mitz Yao, our Electrolux has stopped spinning and draining. We bought it a couple of months after our daughter bought the same model because it had been recommended by Choice. Guess what? machine stopped spinning and draining a few months back. Then our machine failed. Given other people's comments and both of our experiences, this sounds like programmed obsolescence by Electrolux. We replace it tomorrow with a Bosch. No more Electrolux products for us.

Hopefully I'll get at least another four years – Was highly agitated when our machine broke down after 3.5 years and was quoted $450 to have it repaired - almost as much as a new unit. I therefore rang Electrolux direct in somewhat of a rage and accused them at being the worlds best organisation at producing landfill appliances. To cut a somewhat of a long conversation short - they offered to repair the machine if I agreed to paying for the $145 call out fee.  Show details

Why electrolux design such body --- not having easy access to its parts?

I'm looking for a copy of service manual but i can't find any , only user manual which i got when i bought it.

Now, Im still trying to fix it. :( Reading here, seems it's a common problem with this electrolux model. Unfortunately my warranty is out . Im thinking to buy a new washing machine and now I feel i should avoid electrolux..

Another one bites the dust – Same as all the other reviews here... Our board has malfunctioned. We've already had it repaired once in the past. And now after paying the $145 call out fee to be told how much it is to replace the board etc. the total of the repairs now surpass what the machine originally cost us. Unacceptable from what's meant to be a reputable leading brand. We are now forking out to buy a new machine to get rid of this lemon.  Show details

Poor quality and service – I've had no complaints with how this machine cleans and cares for my clothes, apart from it being quite a bit louder than I expected. But now I've been told that the motor needs replacing after less than 4 years. I'd expect a lot more - my last machine lasted over a decade without any repairs! However, what I'm more disappointed about is that I… Read more

wasn't told how to access the error codes on the machine when I called the Electrolux Service Centre. Instead I paid $145 for a repairmen to press two buttons and spend less than five minutes to tell me I needed a replacement motor at a cost of over $250. If I'd been able to access this information myself, I could have made a well informed decision to either spend the $400 to repair the machine or buy a new (better quality) machine. This feels like a blatant cash grab! If I do buy a new washing machine it won't be an Electrolux.

Motor malfunctioned after 4-5 years – Our Washing Machine played up after just 4-5 years. We purchased extended warranty through the Good Guys which expired last year and the machine played up 1 year after warranty had expired. We had a technician come out, which told us the motor and front control board (where you select functions) had reported a KO (Not working) and needed to be replaced (Which would have been about $600-700+). A Great Machine that is still going strong – Well we've had our machine for a few years now and it's never missed a beat. It has a large capacity, plenty of wash, options and cleans much better than our previous top loader. Lint and fluff have not been an issue. It's reasonably quiet and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

Issues Just Outside of Warranty – Purchased machine in 2012 and it has been working fine until recently. Machine makes loud noise during spin cycle and has a tendency to 'walk' around the laundry. A waste of money – Purchased in May 2012, so only just over 3 years old. managed to release by manually dialling thru drain and spin cycles.

Electrolux helpline and local repairman tell me it is an E52 fault, which means it requires a new motor $330, and/or a main control board problem, cost unknown. As it could take weeks for parts and repairs I have purchased a new top loader (not Electrolux!!!) and have to consider carefully whether it is worth repairing at all. A lifespan of three years is unacceptable and therefore I will never buy any Electrolux product again. As they say, "Once Bitten"!!!

inside! It's going to be a chisel and another brand tomorrow. I would like to thank Electrolux for all the wasted hours and money at laundromats over the last 5 years, the awkwardness of imposing on neighbours for help and the joy of getting mum to do our washing when I left home 22 years ago. It's been a treat! Also thanks to Electrolux and the warranty company for not having a record of all the call outs and for not liaising with each other. That would be like admitting there was something wrong. I have been assured that there is nothing more you will do to repair this (panel again in this case) which has been replaced, repaired and reset continuously since I first bought it. The last break down was in March, the previous occasion was November last year and so on for longer than I care to remember. A real lemon!

NOT HAPPY NOW - UPDATE ON POST FROM JAN 2012 – Well an update. After calling Electrolux out on more than 2 occasions whilst under the manufactuers warranty I still have the same problem and am not happy. My clothes come out of the wash with a bad smell. The technician noted the large amount of water that remained in the seal and conceded that it was probably a design flaw; also… Read more

noted that my machine was kept in pristine condition compared to others (no mould in the seal - no smell from the drum - spotless);

I carried out all the correct cleaning procedures (hot wash on emply with bicarb soda/white vinegar or Epsom salts as recommended by the technician) at least every 3 weeks;

used a quality washing powder (Omo) and no fabric softner;

pump clean;

clothes not left wet in the machine - taken out immediately

It is now out of manufacturer's warranty and I have extended warranty but nothing has been done .

What do I have to do to get a wash that doesn't stink?????

If the technician can offer no solution then Electrolux should look into replacing the machine and dismantling this to see what the problem is!

My husband wants me to throw the machine out.

OMG after writing this update I've read through the other reviews....seems I'm not alone with the smelly clothes.....Something is wrong Electrolux!
