"The ammonia smell of the urine burns your eyes and lungs. It must be torture for cats and kittens."
Sadly, this product should be taken off the market. After a few days, the ammonia smell of the urine burns your eyes and lungs. It must be torture for cats and kittens.
Eco friendly low scent litter
We have been using breeders choice cat litter for around 4 years now. Always knew it was great quality then seen it is the brand our local vets use in their cat wards too!
Have been using this for almost two months with two cats. Started okay but unfortunately, the smell of cat wee permeates as this litter has no odour control over it. Poop odour control works well, but not the cat wee odour which makes me want to vomit. So on to another cat litter we go.
Great for small animals as well
I use this Breeders Choice Cat Litter for the under lining for my small animals and parrots. From the other brands I have tried, this is by far the best. The size is perfect, not too small that it can be ingested but big enough to cover the bottom of the cages without multiple layers. I have also found this product to contain the least dust/powder.
Quality product, been buying for years
I've tried various cat litters for 30 years. Used clumping for a while as it was cheap and efficient but then did some research about the dust that is created and how that works it's way into your and your cat's lungs and changed in a hurry!
I liked the way this brand used recycled materials, but had thought it might be a bit expensive in the past ($2 for a small bag of clumping that lasted for about 2 weeks for 1 cat or $20 for a huge bag of this that I had no idea how long it would last for.) Well, I was pleased from the start - nor more tr...
With three indoor cats we have tried a lot of brands and this one is the best, most economic (bulk bags) and best smelling. Its easy to clean up and can vaccumm if it goes wandering. It doesn't crush up, is very absorbant, contains the smell.
I thinkmImget a different one for small animals but its the same thing, I use it for my rabbit works great
As long as you scoop out the sections of used litter daily and clean the litter box once a week, this is a great litter. Safe for kittens as it isn't a clumping litter, and made of recycled paper so its good for the environment. Easier to clean than sand litter. The only reason i imagine it would smell is if you didnt change the litter/clean out the used litter regularly.
Good at first but after a day or two smells like strong paint
Good at first but after a day or two smells like strong paint, really does not mix well with pee. It is a bit light so my cat has pushed it around the house.
Horrible, smelly will never buy again
This so called "Breeders Choice" is nothing more than dehydrated crumbled newspaper, has zero absorbancy & zero odour control, claims that a whole bag can last almost 1 month are unfounded, 1 bag did not even last a single cat household 1 week, & thats with removing all the soiled bits, not to mention the horrible ammonia smell after only 48 hrs, To make this litter anywhere near effective, the entire tray would need to be changed everyday. Terribly expensive & a waste of money.
Great for Guinea pigs too
In the beginning I was using old towels for my guinea pig cage and having to clean the cage 1 to 2 times a day. It used to smell bad and my guinea pigs used to get smelly too. I used to have to wash my guinea pigs every week to two weeks. I also had to wash the towels every week by hand or at a laundromat. But since I've switched to the litter, I only clean it once a week, it doesn't smell and I only have to wash them like once a month. It is so much easier and not a waste of time and it's soft for them to lie on. Also some stuff sits on top bu...t the rest gets absorbed in the lower layer which you can't see until you clean each week and the lower layer only smells like damp paper, which means it holds the Oder. I think this little is great and I would never change as the guineas love it and it doesn't harm them if they chew it which they don't. They do a little happy dance when I do change it at the end of the week. Also by clean I mean empty completely, clean with cage cleaner or a hose with detergent. Replace with new litter. Takes me like 5 minutes.
My cat likes it; I like it so it's a win/win. There is no smell in the house although I'm a stickler for clearing out the number 2s as soon as I know that they've occurred. I change it all once a week and don't find the number 1s smell. I also think it's reasonably priced.
Does the job well and affordable compared to some
This seems to be one of the more affordable litters. I did try crystals but with 2 cats and 2 litter trays I would honestly still tend to replace the crystals almost as often and they are quite a bit more costly.
With the breeders choice I scoop the poo very regularly as the litter trays are near the back door which is close to our lounge room so I don't like the "fresh" smell. Our 2 cats are almost a year old (so still little) and I find it works well to refill the trays completely about once a week (I do put a reasonable amount in the litter...
Sufficient product that is NOT a clumping product
Well said Angela, i have been using this product for some time and I find that it meets the need of our cats. It does NOT state anywhere that this is a clumping product. If someone feels to clean their cat litter once a week it will always smell like crap.
This has been a life saver for me with my allergies
I would like to start this review with saying if there was more star rating I would give this product I would as I don't know how I would have been able to have my any of my 3 cats when they were kittens in my house without this product.
I Adopted my first kitten in 2012, 2nd kitten 2013 and 3rd 2014 (all from ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE) and with my first kitten I started using cat litter crystals which was a VERY BIG MISTAKE as not only did my kitten keep flicking the cat litter crystal out of the cat litter tray after she used the litter tray..., when we happen to stand on it, it hurt badly but that wasn't the worst thing about the cat litter crystals, it was that I didn't know that I had an allergy to it and within 3 days of having it in the house and having to be the one cleaning the cat litter I start coughing and within that time I starting loosing my voice and worse still my eyes became red and swollen and I ended up on antibiotics for over 2 weeks!! I didn't know what I was going to do as I didn't want to have to keep my kitten outside so as my kitten would have to go toliet outside and also live outside always. I decided to speak to the pet supplier that I got my kitten's food from and to my delight they helped me a lot, they suggested BREEDERS CHOICE CAT LITTER so I bought a bag and I just couldn't believe the total difference it made. I didn't have any allergies to it as it is only recycle paper and there wasn't any smell to it. Since that day I have never looked back and had used it with my other 2 kittens when I adopted one the next year and my 3rd kitten the year after that. All 3 kittens never had any problems with this product and I find this product excellent with my allergies, also the price is very good and the best thing is you can buy it so many places, PET SHOP SUPPLIERS, WOOLWORTHS, COLES ETC.
Very good certainly worth trying
This is the brand of cat litter I usually buy and I love! The only down side is the lack of clumping which is convenient.
Excellent quality, environmentally friendly.
We have an inside cat, she prefers this over the clumping/ crystal litters. I'm happy because its recycled & biodegradable. I do all the litter tray maintenance & I find the pellets so easy to manage; easy to isolate the dirty/ wet litter and remove with the pet scoop. Easy to sweep up around the tray too. A 24litre bag only costs $19 and lasts us almost 2 months. We never have a problem with odour.
No KLINGON'S With Breeders Choice
Spokachino, my green blooded Vulcan feline pet was suffering from Clumping Klingon's when defecating at warp factor 9.
After exiting the DefTray, his grey paw print trail was also very obvious on our terra firma floor boards.
Seeking a solution, I beamed Spokachino to the Alpha Quadrant for military toilet training by the Cardassian's.
Upon his return to Vulcan ll, Spokachino refused to Trek Klingon clumping dust around the house any longer and communicated his preference by utilising the replicator.
A bag of Breeders Choice materialised, I dispensed the product in to the Deftray and he defecated immediately at warp factor 10 this time. It was a long journey from Cardassia to Vulcan!
Environmentally friendly, safe for small animals
This was the safest litter I could find for my rabbits, and it's been working well. Their urine can be smelly, but I've found this litter has pretty decent odor control. It's absorbent and doesn't clump, which is another pro when using it for small animals as clumping litters can cause an intestinal blockage if consumed. A little pricey, but overall good product.
Clear the house and disinfect the walls cause the cat piss is making the paint peel
This is garbage it don't clump it doesn't neutralise the urine odour
Anyone claiming this works is clearly one of those save the environment lunatics who'd rather live in filth then use a chemical
It's simple as this use this your house will stink you go through 4-5 bags a week seriously it's garbage catsan clumping clay is perfect
Just discovered it I refuse to live in filth in order to save a tree sorry hippies
Tried many types of cat litter, previously always preferred the clumping types but we have ended up using this one.
Virtually no dust, my cat doesn't have asthma attacks with this litter. This is important.
Minimal tracking. Those pellets that do track are easy to sweep up. I don't seem to have the same problem as other reviewers who mention tracking of very small paper particles. I do not need to vacuum. I cannot say the same thing about any other litter I've tried so far.
Cleanup is pleasant. Yes, it can be difficult to try and remov...e all the used pellets without throwing out too many of the unused ones. But the pellets are tidy, they don't generate dust, they don't stick to the scoop or box, so the scoop and box are much easier to clean. I usually just spray diluted vinegar and wipe off with half a paper towel and that's it. No scrubbing. Good odour control. Not the best in the market but it's good for urine, less good for poo. Note that you can reduce the odour of your cat's business by changing its diet (e.g. raw food), which works for us.
Highly recommended for Ferret Owners!
I own two ferrets and I found this was the safest litter I could get in Australia. Compared to other litters it can be alittle more pricey, but paying the extra couple of dollars is well worth it. It lasts longer if you spot clean once a day and It doesn't even smell!
Ferrets can be quite the smelly little cuties and trust me, I've had no issues with smell when using this product. The problem with 'cheap' products is the fact that they are indeed quite cheap in quality. Cheap products can also possibly damage your pet most of the time, so for...my case and for Ferrets cases, this is the best choice for litter. Clay litters have a high amount of dust which leads to respiratory issues and can shorten the life of your ferret, while clumping litters can cause health issues. In the end it would be costing you far more money, so those should be avoided. In this case, Breeders choice litter has no odor, is very absorptive, and is easy to handle. It has no dust and the pellets are big enough not to get stuck in our little fuzzies noses (since they love to bury their noses in things) We can rest easy since it has no additives or chemicals, biodegradable & economical. They can come in 6 litre, 15 litre, 24 litre and 30 litre packs. I use the 6 litre packs and between my 2, it lasts a fortnight, if not a little longer. I've started getting the 15 litre packs now and they seem to last alot longer. I'm considering in the getting the larger packs to keep as backups. It's the only litter I'll ever be buying now and in the future. Well worth the money. ^^
Nup. Useless, my house had a hissy fit
Compared to clumping clay this stuff is useless. Pud Pud couldn't bury her doo doo and thus the dog ate it. The litter doesn't filter through the litter scoop so you throw so much away. It doesn't soak and clump thus I'm not looking forward to digging to the bottom of the litter box.
I'm taking it back to swap for something that works. As someone else wrote - I too wanted it to work but alas...
Wanted to love it but our house stinks
Switched to this as had crystals and dogs kept getting into litter tray, but it smells awful, 2 days in, everytime, smell returns qucikly. looking to switch again as cannot stand the smell.
Smelly and tracks throughout the house
This litter does nothing to control the smell of cat wee and it also sticks to our cat's paws so he walks it through the house. We've since changed to Ozpet which does an excellent job of odour control and the pellets are much bigger so no tracking.
