DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THEM
After dropping the car off and overcharged me the next day by $2,000. They said it was an error. It's a bloody big error. My account was overdrawn because of them. I was told it would be fixed within the hour. Still no money or confirmation at 2:56pm. If the money isn't back in my account by 5pm I'm going to the ombudsman
Total lack of information, poor customer service
Booked via Jetstar website for Sydney airport. Was never provided any information about car pick up or that it was actually running off the back of Hertz car rental. Had to ask airport staff for help. A month after hiring car I get hit with a toll administration and the tolls. Every other car rental company I've gone through takes the tolls out of the deposit fee, not these guys. Has to be set up prior to car collection. Nice big bill afterwards, only then offering a link on the invoice to the fine print regarding tolls. At time of pick up staf...f didn't even ask/discuss this issue - I was rushed through because of a long queue and a problem they had with another car missing keys and being parked in the wrong spot. I wasn't provided with any drop off or assistance information either. Crap service. Won't be using Firefly or Hertz ever again.
Fantastic Service & Car Hire Experience!
We hired a car through Firefly at Mackay QLD airport and their service was first class. We even got a car larger than expected as our first choice was not available. I will be highly recommending them to our family and friends. No issues on collection or return and the easiest car hire we have ever booked. We will be back again soon I'm sure :)
I am one of the little happy car renters
I had a very positive experience with Firefly. I see there are a lot of negative reviews out there from people that hate to read "Terms and conditions". I rented via doyouspain website, and initially the first Car rental company (OleCar) turned out to be a total SCAM. The 3rd party helped me change to Firefly at no extra cost and for 12 days at 300 Euro + 75 Euro insurance. For the price I got 2018 Ford Focus 1.0 Eco Boost 125 HP touring model with some minor damages on the exterior. In the contract it was said that I will have to provide credi...t card and have 860 Euro blocked on the card just in case. At the car rental desk they also explained to me the terms and conditions and offered the additional Insurance from their side which was 200 Euro, I rejected their offer as I already had insurance, they explained that if something happens to the car I will have to cover the expenses and then my other insurance will cover. I expected the car before I took it, marked all the imperfections, returned it in the same condition after driving 2000 km in Spain. Full - Full tank. Got my Credit Card deposit of 860 Euro refunded in less than 5 business days. If you expect car rental company to just give you a whole car without additional insurance and deposit... hmm will you give your Car to a stranger & a foreigner?
Warning for CarJet and Firefly
They have put in systems to deceive the customer. I booked and paid in advance incl. CarJet extra insurance. When I picked up the car at Firefly they demanded 95 Euro for because I did not have a credit card, only a debit card. True, CarJet writes this in fine print, but most people do not see it. Probably CarJet and Firefly do this together and share the profits. I demanded the money back but did not get it, a week's car rental in smoke. I recommend AutoEurope or Rental Cars instead, none of which behave badly. Booked car today via Rental Cars / Hertz and last week with AutoEurope / Europcar, no problem just using debit cards.
BEWARE of Firefly - I class what they did to me as Theft
Beware of Firefly... Murcia International Airport - Spain. I rented an Intermediate car at a very cheap price of just over 5 Euros for 10 days. There was only One member of staff on that morning so had to wait about an hour and a half in a queue until I got served. I was then offered the choice of either manual or automatic. I checked and the staff member confirmed that there would be NO Extra charge for either car, so I chose the Automatic. When I got home I was charged just over 37 Euros for an upgrade. They have refused to resolve this as I'd signed the rental agreement - Check everything you sign - I class this as Theft. - On a positive note, the car was very nice.
The vehicle was clean and in good condition. The insurance policy is very mis-leading and designed to take your money without giving any benefits. They don't have any option to reduce the excess to zero. Without extra cover the excess for any damage is $5000, if you buy full cover, the excess is reduced to $1000 which still does not cover glasses and tyres. The counter staff lied about the benefits of extra glass & tyre insurance to convince us to buy it! He said this extra cover puts down the excess to $180 for windscreen, side glasses and tyr...es. But when windscreen was damaged, we were still charged for the full price of the windscreen. It was below $1000 of course. They said us the extra insurance does not cover windscreen and was only for side glasses. Even if it would, the $1000 excess would apply to it which is ridiculous because the total price of replacing these items hardly exceeds one grand. So it's extremely unlikely that you can claim any benefit from this extra cover.
SCAMMERS- get a fuel receipt when refilling
Hired a car on a great rate and it near new and everything went great so Am thinking it’s a good service. I had a thorough walk around with the returns clerk at Sydney airport who gave me the all good. The next week I get a $89 charge by Hertz who upon calling and asking WTH he explains FIREFLY have a clause that state if they have to touch the car in anyway..... Even if it’s 1/2 a litre of fuel they charge a $60 fee + costs. You are suppose to show a fuel receipt to the attendant even though he won’t ask you for one (deliberately) it appears now. Absolute scammers and given it’s a division of Hertz it’s even worse!
Booked cars not available
I booked a car through Firefly at Townsville Airport. The car was not available for pickup until 1.5hrs after the time I booked it for making me late for my appointment. Several other customers were also standing around waiting for the arrival of their booked car. Not good enough.
Hertz Firefly car rentals deliver only half the car that was booked
On a recent trip to Adelaide 14-21 Apr 2019 I hired a car from Firefly car rental - bookings are serviced by Hertz. Our booking was for a Nissan Qashqai (G) which is advertised as suitable for 5 passengers with 2 large suitcases and 2 small suitcases. On arrival we were issued by Hertz a Hyundai Kona which we were told is the same class of car as the a Nissan Qashqai. Hyundai advertise the Kona as a small SUV. Well it’s certainly small - the boot could only hold 1 large case. Our other case had to rest on the back seat with two small day packs....God only knows where the other three passengers and a large case were supposed to fit! Thankfully there was only two of us however, the advert for the car by Firefly was deliberately misleading. There is absolutely no way 5 passengers with 2 large suitcases and 2 small suitcases could fit into the car we were issued. So, Firefly and Hertz can't be trusted to honestly represent the vehicles they hire. Based on our experience, they deliberately misrepresented and mislead us on the products they sold - hirer beware!! Get to know your cars!!
