When it works and holds the water it is great
I have had no end of trouble with this model, I have had other washing machines of the same brand which have been perfect but this one is one I can't recommend. Constantly giving the code full regardless of the water setting. It will then empty and you need to refill again.

Don’t make them like they use to….
Purchased in 2017 after my second smart drive went after ten years… loved the smart drive product. Now after only 4 years suspension has failed and not worth fixing. Very disappointed have gone off fisher and paykel will try a Bosch front loader instead.

So disappointed F&P
I have been a F&P fan for a long time. My freezer is 23years old, fridge 18years old and previous washing machine 16years (only got rid of it due to needing to replace the electrical panel for $300. It never missed a beat, even doing cloth nappies for 2 babies). It was a no brainer to select this machine. Unfortunately, this purchase has been a big mistake. It does not rinse properly leaving detergent on clothes. You can't add something without it going back to the start. I bought the larger capacity machine to wash doonas but it leaves l...int all over them. I do think it is an energy and water efficient top loader. After 2 years we replaced the solinoid, had water leaking, after 3 years I had to replace the agitator (something I never had to do in 16years with my old machine). Then the loud banging, machine jumping around started. We were constantly having to rebalance. This got worse until it would no longer spin and I was hanging very wet clothes on the line. After some research, we discovered we needed to replace the balancing rods. Just about to order some new ones and the machine now won't start. We have decided to purchase a different brand rather than throw more money at this machine. I'm so disappointed in this F&P product. I will definitely think twice before buying any more of their products in future.
The first Fisher & Paykel I had was a great machine and lasted just over 10 years with regular use. When it finally packed a sad I replaced it with the same size but upgraded model. It never washed a good as the original and a year after warranty the cold water solenoid decided to retire. The replacement solenoid was not cheap. A year later, the circuit board that controls the water level decided that it would make my life uncomfortable by causing the machine to overflow which required bucketing out water sot the machine would start again. Now ...i have to set the water to the lowest level (even though the machine fills to the top on this setting) to allow the machine to operate. The replacement circuit board cost over $300.00 dollars and had to be fitted by an authorized installer otherwise there would be no warranty on the part. 90 day warranty if installed by authorized installer. When this machine dies I will purchase a brand that is not Chinese owned.

F & P Quality gone downhill in a big way
Owned a GW609 Top Loader for a decade and half having little problems with it apart from replacing the solenoids for the water. So we upgraded to another F&P model going on past experience.
A month after it was bought we had to warranty guys out. Wouldn't soak in soak mode, just empty after a few minutes then into the rinse mode. When used in normal wash modes would randomly jump between cycles. Repairmen changed the motor controller & all was good for 8 months, same problem second time occurring. Got the guys back out changed again. Settled d...own for a bit then after warranty was out started again but the wash mode was ok so we just avoided the soak modes. Had similar off & on problems for 4 years after that our older washer covered till the gremlins cleared and numerous repairmen not being able to find the problem. Then over Christmas again gone, now won't even wash, can't regulate water level. Thought a 5 year old wash maybe a new motor controller module would do the trick, well seems F & P don't stock anymore. Even second hand parts are non existent online for this model which makes me think the model has a problem with it motor controller that is Thai built now. I now have a very expensive boat anchor that I will probably start wrecking for parts to at least recoup some of the purchase cost. Meanwhile the 20 year old model of the same brand still powers on with having to replace the bearings last week. I will say when the above reviewed washer did work it did a very good job. Downside was the woeful reliability.

Agitator falling to bits
Fisher and Pykel were the brand of choice, but by this forum you can see that they ain't the machine they used to be. My machine is getting noisier and nosier as it clunks as it changes direction and now the agitator fins are breaking off down the bottom @ 2.5 years old. I have had simpson machine for 20 years and never had a thing fall off the agitator? I don't think the money buys quality any more. My neighbors same machine did a main board in 2 years and another friend same machine the suspension rods that keep the machine in balance in jus...t under 3 years. This whole thing of spending big dollars for inferior products is not sustainable for the average income earner. The build quality is buyer beware that's for sure. Its sad that viability of business is this era is the quality of the parts based a good name or now, was a good name. Spending a $1000 for three years turn around is not a sign of a good product. Its a shame really and then they want us to come back for return business?

Ok machine when it works, but so many problems with it!
Bought this machine a couple of months ago and have had issues ever since.
It gets about 10 minutes into the wash cycle, and will then continually beep until you press pause, and start again.
It seems as though the "lid lock" mechanism is faulty. However, sometimes it will do the complete wash cycle and other times it won't.
We have contacted Fisher & Paykel, and they have said we will need to organise to fix this ourselves.
Another downside is that there is no lint filter.
When it actually works the wash isn't too bad. It's a shame it's been so faulty.
Four Star? What for?
Purchased as it was a 4 star machine. What a joke. Does not wash well and regardless of how it is programmed it changes the program to barely any water. There is really no point in washing clothes to clean them in this machine. Washing becomes ridiculously tangled and misshaped in machine and it is easily off balanced. Worst machine I have used in 40 years of using washing machines!
does not do a great job on cleaning clothes, it is quiet but takes longer to fill with the water than the actual wash time and I have great water pressure and have never had a problem with any other washing machine. I can honestly say it is the worst and most expensive machine I have ever owned. I dislike when you want to add something either to wash or rinse because you don't require the full cycle after pausing it just goes back to beginning, very frustrating, I contacted Fisher & Paykel and was told that's what it meant to do Fortunately only my husband & I at home now so not heaps of washing, it takes forever.
Hot straight out of the cylinder onto clothes first
Nice machine but on regular wash the first water onto clothes is hot straight out of the cylinder which I feel is a bit harsh, then after a while, cold. The cold- warm wash is cold, the warm is the same and warm-hot isn't much better, even after setting the warm up as high as it will go it is still below skin temperature. Surely in this age of technology they could make the water mix before hitting the clothes. I think the average person using this machine would be stunned to know straight hot is on the clothes first, they probably just put the washing on and would not know.
Don't buy this if you don't like lint
Never had an issue with lint but we have to vacuum our clothes once dry due to the massive amount of lint.
We contacted fisher and pykel only to get told to buy a lint filter from them for $44 plus $15 freight...and it might fix the problem.
A $1000 machine should not have this issue in the first place.
Time to contact fair trading I'm thinking.
Leaves lint all over clothes!
This washing machine leaves lint all over clothes. I separate clothes correctly and no matter what there is crap left over everything. I have to use a lint remover on everything especially dark clothes after they are washed and dried which creates a lot of work! I would much prefer an older washing machine where you empty the lint filter out yourself.
I have a family of six and when my simpson died I decided to try a different brand thinking that Fisher and Paykel would be superior unfortunately I am left very disappointed. Every wash especially the dark loads comes out full of lint (and yes I make sure I don't put towels or tea towels, etc. in). I have never used a lint roller before buying this machine and now I use it on a daily basis! I had seen on reviews that this is a common problem and rang Fisher and Paykel to see if they could send me out a lint basket and I was told that the machi...ne "shouldn't" need one and were not very interested. I have ended up purchasing the lint basket myself but haven't seen a great deal of improvement. When I do so much washing the last thing I want to do is spend another hour with a lint roller getting off all the lint and fluff. With this machine costing over $1000 unfortunately I will just have to deal with it for the mean time but can't wait to be able to replace it and it won't be with a Fisher and Paykel!
Hate being a strong word but how I feel about this machine. Lint everywhere, hard on clothes and no warm wash!! Dripping wet clothes on gentle. Goes back to the start when adding another item. Cutting my losses and selling to repurchase. However does run quiet. Disappointed and very unhappy. Contacted company did send me another lint filters but they were not really interested.
can't pause machine starts from scratch-might as well have a front loader
have needed the electrical panel replaced after 10 months, touch panel very touchy, worse thing is the fact you might have forgotten to put something in the machine and you press the pause button and the machine starts the cycle from scratch, should have bought a front loader, does take a large load which is why I give it 2 stars.
Questions & Answers
I have this machine. It continually goes out of balance. I have tried everything I can find on the net. The first thing I did was buy new suspension rods and fit them. Seemed to work ok for a few days, then out of balance again every second or third load. I've made sure the machine is completely level using a level. I've run the initial installation procedure / program on the machine. Nothing works. Is there anything else I can try??
The funny thing is it can say out of balance, I can then remove everything from the machine so it's completely empty, then hit go again, and it still says out of balance. Often I have to unplug it from the wall, leave it 30 mins then plug it back in and sometimes it will suddenly work and spin the clothes perfectly. That happens without touching anything inside the machine. So the load was obviously never really "out of balance". Is there anything else I can try. I like the machine otherwise, but this "out of balance" issues is slowly making it unusable.
Edit - I've just check my email and it turns out I bought the new suspension rods at the end of July. The machine worked well for a month, before now going out of balance again all the time. This out of balance started again in early September. Surely it can't be that the new suspension rods only lasted a month?
Sorry I cannot help with this problem, I have been lucky enough not to experience this.
I suggest you contact Fisher & Paykel and have their technician help you.
Hi Don, we can move the load in ours three or four times and still it beeps. We have set the level a number of times. Monica I will do what Jackie suggests and contact Fisher Paykel
If I hand wash in a tub, is there a way to select 'spin only' with this washer?
should i have water in the plastic bottom part of my bowl, the part that is connected to the stainless part? could this be causing an imbalance error?
