Everyone on here is talking about issues with the gearbox and transmission in automatic ford focuses but what about the manual are there in any issues in them? Also is there anything I need to know about the Ford Focus LX LV
Have not come across any issues! If you have the Mazda LF-DE engine in your Ford Focus you most likely will not have trans problems. If you have the seconds generation Focus with an engine ranging from the 1.8 to the 2.5 you will have the Mazda engine, anything smaller is a rehashed first generation Zetec renamed Duratec. As for auto transmissions only the first generation Focus had some trans problems which were addressed in the second generation and was also a Mazda transmission. So if you have the first generation Focus you may have problems on the horizon!
What's the difference between first and second generation Focus?
Looking at wanting to buy this model getting it inspected tomorrow. Have asked gf partner who works for ford mechanic is it a good model to get as that power shift box scares me. He said the lx no don’t get the LV is good diesel auto . It’s turbo diesel only done 137000 ks so what’s everyone’s else’s thoughts? Down from 7999 to 6500 now.
I was just wondering if Ford Focus Sedan 2010 was reliable as a first car, as well as does it use up alot of petrol?
no!!! the transmission is a nightmare go get a suzuki swift or mazda2 they are far more reliable
These are tremendously unreliable cars. The Powershift transmission (dual clutch) has a design defect and Ford is extremely unhelpful at fixing it. In fact there is a class action lawsuit about it about to go live. More information at my blog: [link removed]
Buy a Mazda3 or a Hyundai i30 instead.
