Best car I have owned. Fun to drive. Unreal handling.
Got the new ST model. Fantastic drive, unreal handling and good fuel economy. I have had a few cars and I doubt I will ever move away from ford. Only downside is the sat nav is rather small and clunky and the roads are out of date in Australia. Waiting for ford to update the roads. People say the voice sync is a fad but its really not, highly useful for playing music and making calls. It is a pleasure to drive and there is plenty of power in the turbo charged version when needed. Another good thing is the cheap service which is capped. Been thr...ough two services and driven it a lot, no problems at all. Highly recommended. Power, handling, fun to drive, fuel economy, voice sync, smooth manual transmission Sat nav is a bit small and picks odd routes, maps not up to date
Great Car, Excellent fun to Drive
Don't Typically write reviews (read a lot of them), we brought a Focus trend in December 2012, considered others in the class but for the money and the class leading 125 kw 2.0L direct injection (direct injection! in a sub $25K car!) it was by far the pick. Apart from a small purely cosmetic door trim issue (replaced by ford under-warranty, no questions asked) the focus is an excellent car. The transmission is excellent, as a twin clutch auto, it is slightly different to what people are used to (feels like its letting out a clutch when taking o...ff) and sounds a little more 'mechanical' than a 'run of the mill' auto, engine is powerful and responsive and handling is exceptional equipped with ford's ESP Advancetrac system that actually works (FINALLY!) it really begs to be thrown around bends. Have driven a friends 2012 ford fiesta and the same can be said. Price, Build Quality, Handling, Power, Transmission would be awesome if it was awd! haha, trunk space is only adequate, no leather wrap steering wheel on trend model
An awesome drive
I bought a new Focus Trend six speed petrol auto six weeks ago after reading a number of 'professional' reviews and inspecting the major competitors (VW, Civic, Cruz, Corolla....) and discounted them for various reasons (power, seating, room, design etc. When I told one dealer his car was out of the running he told me to discount the others and buy a Focus which re-inforced the view I had gained on viewing them. I have had no problems with the vehicle which is great to drive having twenty percent more power and a lot more torgue than similar ...sized cars. Great acceleration and road holding coupled with excellent seating make the Focus a joy to drive. Comfort, drivability, power and features Door pillar is on the large size (not uncommon with many cars) and ignition lock could be better located. Niggles!
A few problems but overall pretty solid car
I have a 2007 stock standard Focus, no probs until late 2010 when something went wrong with the computer and Ford had no idea what was wrong so they just handed it back to me. It would surge while driving and rev while in neutral, so I took it to another (non Ford) mechanic and they said I should start using 95 octane fuel and this fixed everything...no problems since. A lot of power for a small car - I've driven family and friends' Getz, Exel and Yaris and these have similar fuel efficiency but no power whatsoever, and a much better gearbox (...Those small cars are pointless as manuals, you may as well get an auto). I do a lot of highway driving and it's comfy on long drives and gutsy enough to overtake slow cars, fuel economy goes down in town driving but still good. Reliable, cheap to run, comfy, feels like a larger car to drive, handles well Not real spacious and boot a bit small, gets very hot in summer and cool in winter, have to use fancy fuel which isn't available at all places
Aside from the model (which I really like), the new Focus is an excellent car if you are buying your first car or if you are looking for a car for everyday use. I am using Ambiente Hatch 1.6 L engine.
This car is fuel efficient (7.0 L/100 km overall) given the size of the car. It could be as low as 5.5 L/100 km for suburban travel. Moreover, the size is sufficient to make a 5 person long-distance trip comfortable (the comfort of the seat also helps). I even could fit my bed inside the car while moving out (rear set folded). In addition, the ...boot is decent (can fit two big luggages). Although the acceleration is not too great, it's sufficient for everyday use (that's all I use it for anyway). The automatic transmission is good and quite smooth. The build is also good. I just got T-boned which left the doors badly damaged on the outside, but the inside is intact. Finally, the price is not expensive. Although it's not your cheapest option, it is worth paying that little extra money for what you would get from this car. great size, great price, fuel efficient, good look
BEST CAR I HAVE BOUGHT!!!!
This car is FANTASTIC ! I was looking for a roomy hatch with heaps of luggage space and something reliable & economical.....the Focus is perfect, have had the usual guff from mechanics about 'weird and wonderful' things they they're all well known for that will need to be replaced but it was a load of BS, honestly if your looking for the same thing this is the car for you! GERMAN built so they're well designed and reliable!
roomy, heaps of luggage space, economical, nippy when you boot it !
parts being expensive, not so nippy & economical when the a/c is on
Reliable and Comfortable
We have a 2006 Sedan, which has now lasted us 6 years. We have never had any problems with it and it has proven to be incredibly reliable . Since having a baby, we have found it still provides us enough room for weekend trips away without being uncomfortable. It is great on the highway, and cruise maintains speed really well. Around town we find it is small enough to be zippy, but still spacious that the back seats aren't a waste.
Reliable, great around town and on the highway. Plenty of room even though its a small car
Irritating beeping noise while reversing
Fantastic small car
The ford focus is an amazing car which fits my 2 kids in it with still room to move it has a fantastic boot space drives very well and easy to get in and out of comes in a range of clours and models also u can get it in diesel .
Small and zippy
Turbo diesel is a winner
The issue of petrol pricing has forever gone from my mind. This is the most powerful and fuel efficient hatch I've driven. I've never had a problem with it and my fuel costs are down 90%.
the turbo gives you all the power you need - its also 5 star ancap , sticks to the road like glue and a steal at around 20,000 AU
Fuel efficiency, road handling, sony sound system
Lots of glass which means gets very hot in summer and very cold in winter !
Lived up to expectations!
Was looking at the corolla, i30, mazda 3, golf, cruze, and the focus was just the obvious choice! absolutely love it! it is amazing to drive, very zippy, easy to park, and just goes. pretty powerful for a 1.6L engine, and i LOVE the audio system, the other cars could not compete with this exceptional audio system!
Really efficient on petrol, full tank goes 700km, the audio system is amazing, and travels so smoothly
The TDCi is an brilliant drive.
Its quick, tows well, the extra weight of the diesel engine and the extra torque makes towing a brease. You can be in cruise in 6th not slow down or have to change gear on most hills. Going down a hill the engine in most cases will hold you speed in 6th or 5th unless its really steap then maybe 4th.
It does seem to go through headlights tho. Ive had mine for 1 and a half years and im on my third set. Im not sure where Auslander got his info from about removing the front end but I can change mine in about 5 m...inutes. 1 screw 2 or 3 clips and the headlamp assembly is out half a dozen clips, one plug and the old lamp is in your hand. No removing of front end or battery. If you have been on cruise for a while then put you foot down you get a puff of diesel soot out the back. I usually try to save it for those idiot tailgates :) but aparently those behind you cant see it but it looks horrid in looking back in thier headlights. The stock stereo sound really good, 6 speaker loads of bass. I keep finding little things the car can do ie you can program each window to opperate differently, global unlocking (great on hot days) , or just unlock the drivers door. Stuff like that.
Just got it and love it
Just bought a 2007 model, first registered in 2008, and couldn't be happier. What a terrific car, down to the leather interior, terrific hard top, 6 stacker cd player, heated seats, rear view mirror that adjusts according to following vehicles lights, rain censored wipers, electric seat adjustment, huge boot space even with the roof down, cruise control, audio adjustment on steering wheel, etc.
Just about everything, it is a terrific car.
Just a little underpowered for a 2L car, but at least it will be harder to speed.
I love this car. It is great to drive and easy to park. It's fuel economy is pretty good. It looks stylish too. It does get a bit small when you try to fit baby seats in the rear though. We have not have any problems with this car and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small to med sized car. It's safety features are also very good.
This is a great car. It compact but has great safety features also. Pretty good price too.
The back seat is a bit small when you try to fit a couple of kids in.
Wonderful, sporty good looking car. Better value than most of it's competitors ie. Holden Astra Turbo, Subaru WRX, great handling and sweet ride and the color choices are hot. A great car for the driving fans and you will see it is a good car if you judge it on it's merits and ignore the Ford haters.
Focus XR5 Turbo: great power, superb and smooth handling, very sporty ride, awesome styling and body kit, good set of features above Zetec model, nice supportive Recaro seats, good premium sound system, not expensive in comparison to it's competition, nice slick 6 speed gear box
turbo insurance premium
I bought a basic Focus CL manual in 2009. It was a discounted run-out 2008 model. I don't believe in buying top of the range cars as there is more to go wrong. The salesman told me it ran on 91 octane unleaded which isn't the case, it must run on premium or pings badly & it says this several times in the owners manual. It had everything anyone needs plus cruise control which was a bonus. The servicing was reasonable priced & I always got around 550kms out of a tank despite only traveling short distances. The seats are comfortable, my 7 yr old s...on loved it in the back & very good sized boot. The only on going problem I had was the wipers didn't always park at the bottom of the screen & City Ford never seemed to believe me despite filming the fault on my iPhone. I've just sold it due to changing jobs & now get a company car. I really miss it :-( Economical to buy & run, very reliable Wipers kept getting stuck but dealer never believed me.
The XR5 is an outstanding car.
I've owned some excellent cars, GTR skyline, AMG merc etc.
Make no mistake, this is a fun medium size car.
The engine reminds me of the older legendary Audi 5cyl turbo engines which were brilliant.
- The ride is an excellent balance of handling & comfort.
(not sitting on bricks)
- The turbo engine sounds like mozart, with crackles and a smooth note ...
I love it and dream about upgrading one day to an XR5!! Simply fabulous value for money and cute to boot. Having soo much room in the boot is excellent to
I love my focus. Its nippy and not too big but fits my 2 toddlers in just fine with big ass stroller room in the boot. Great petrol onsumpt. Mine is 3 yeas old and hasnt missed a beat. I simply cant ccomplain about reliability
the lack of console between seats and its a bit plasticy but you get what you pay for. Definately go for the smooth pack though with wheels rims and paower windows etc.
We bought a 2009 Focus hatch. It's lovely to drive. It has enough leg room in the back and front. A little squeezy in the back with a child car seat in the middle, but 2 people can squash in. We like the placement of things on the dashboard.
Great car to drive & comfortable. Feel like I'm sitting up higher than my older car. Back seats fold down flat and the boot is bigger than the other cars we test drove. Only have to have it serviced once a year. We can plug the ipod in.
Overall a great car would look at buying new version provided that the quality has picked up on this current model.
Focus XR5 Turbo: Power, style/looks, driving experience and cost
No cruise control or bluetooth and build quality in some areas namely paint and general finish.
The Ford Focus is a very nice looking motor car. It drives well and is appointed with practical and easy to use features. I would reccommend the Focus to anyone.
Bought a Focus LX model in 2006. Looks great, value for money. Has all the features you really need. Has a really big boot.
Every time you turn the ignition to "on", 6 warning beeps sound...very annoying, and the worst thing is that it cannot be dissabled.
Questions & Answers
anyone had issues with this model? looking to buy one as long as it's not a lemon ,and it is manual
Hi Peter, I probably can't make a comment on a manual MK1 but trust me if you think of buying an auto, my advise would be to RUN as fast as you can away from it. I have had nothing but trouble with the gearbox in mine and have just had it fixed for the 9th time, so fingers crossed they got it this time. Good luck but buy another brand.
Hi I have a 61plate ford focus titanium I have a heating problem it works in all areas but to my feet why what could it be ?
