GPS is horrendous
I bought this watch about a couple of months back and really tried to love it.
I primarily use it for cycling and integrate it with Strava. But the results I am getting are way different from what I get if I use Strava to record my activity. I usually ride in M7 with some areas being covered with trees, as well as the occasional roads under the highway and I think this is what is messing up with the tracking. I would not mind if the discrepancy is less than 1km, but for a 40km ride, I get a 50-55km result in this Garmin device. I have checked ...different solutions in their forum and it seems this is a known issue for more than a year now, with no clear solution. They suggest a lot of things, which I have done like GPS soaking, changing the GPS settings, etc. But I have tried all this without no good outcome. I would suggest that if you are looking into getting this to track your rides, make sure that you do your research first. Too bad because I really like the look and the fit, but function is more important than aesthetics.
Purchased in January 2021 at JB Hi-Fi for $350.00.

The watch is okay but still on the fence
Previous to this watch I had the Garmin Vivoactive HR. It was promoted as 5 ATM, meaning that it should have been fine going swimming or snorkelling in shallow waters. But disappointingly it died on a swim and Garmin will only offer a replacement for a reduced price, as it was outside the warranty period. I was reluctant to get another Garmin but it is one of the small number of brands which connects to certain apps like strava. It doesn't have touchscreen like the vivoactive HR but setting the alarm or changing the layout of the screen are easy to work out.
Great initially....build quality is questionable
I got the Instinct in May 2019 just after it was released. I am currently on my 2nd watch as Garmin had to give me a "new" one (ie refurbished). The issue I had, one that many others have had, is when you get a notification, the vibration ended up making something loose inside the watch so it would rattle with every notification. The other issue I had was that the GPS was wildly inaccurate at times. On a 5km run it would measure 4.8km. The battery is great though, the lack of bells and whistles sure does make it last longer than you would think.... For the sale price of $299, it would be hard to pass up. Feels bombproof and well suited to someone who doesnt need all the optional extras and loves the outdoors. Lots of reported issues with the Altimeter too, but I am yet to have the issue so far. Just a shame that the build quality isnt quite there.
Purchased in May 2019 for $349.00.
