Insured with GIO since 1978
One small claim in the '80's till storms hit us on Lake Macquarie a two years ago and have had three significant claims since then, one involved a complete new bathroom, another floor coverings in living areas, and a third for stolen valuables

Fast and friendly service
While away on holiday the roof of our garage got damaged and we had water poor in and soak a heap of boxes and beds we had stacked in there ready to move house when we got back. As the house was a strata house I only had contents insurance with GIO but from the first phone call they were efficient and helpful. The assistant on the phone quickly set up the claim and I could add documents and images to the website. A client manager called me within a couple of days and walked me through the claims process.

Read more and our best guess at replacement costs for all the items (over $10,000 worth of damage) the claim was paid out within the week. So absolutely nothing to complain about as the service was friendly, easy and fast. I was going to insure my new house with Woolworths Insurance as the quote was a little cheaper (about $150/yr) but with the quality of service I got from GIO I'm going to stay with them.- 3 reviews

GIO - Great service
GIO in NSW - Excellent service. Late last year, a friend of mine was overseas when a bathroom pipe burst upstairs, waterfalls everywhere for at least 24hrs. She told me where to find the GIO ins policy. I rang them, established my bona-fides, they assigned a case manager and had a clean-up squad on-site within 3 hrs. Policy was in the name of my friend's husband who had passed away several mont hs earlier. Excellent Service
Having recently had to make my first claim ever and in this instnace, for a lost specified item, within my policy I have to say I am impressed with the way the claim was dealt with. From the first time I called and the information was taken I was called back within 24 to 48 hours and further details were then provided. Because I had to go out shopping to look for replacement of item I needed time to do so and it was GIO who called me back to follow up on status not me having to call them. So far my policies past with GIO have been OK.
I have dealt with GIO in past & generally things have been OK (though never had to lodge a claim). Have left them with various policies over the years mainly because of pricing differences eg can get a better deal combining comprehensive / green slip policy, so we've come & gone over the years. Anyway had a new house built & thought I'd get a few quotes online. Online quotes stalled with most providers as the new property isn't listed on their databases. Basically it didn't matter that you had a letter from the local council (dated 2 months ago) allocating a street number, you just have to wait until the data base is updated if you want a policy However when I called GIO I found the opposite in a lady called Sarah who was everything good old fashioned customer service used to be. She took the time (unlike the other lazy individuals from other companies) to find a way to provide me with quotes for several of our policies, was polite, helpful & very professional, something the other insurance providers distinctly lack. If GIO continues to shape up we'll be transferring the rest of our policies over too providing the give us a competitive quote. Helpful Staff, reasonable rates- 15 reviews

Excellent Service
I suffered a serious house fire in 2011 & GIO got right onto it. The assesor was very quickly on site & was very supportive & helpful. The claims staff kept me advised of the process & were also very supportive & flexible when it came to negotiating a settlement so I could rebuild & get on with my life. Couldn't have asked for better service. My neighbour who suffered roof damage & is with CGU is still waiting for them to make repairs while he still lives under a tarp. GIO were so good that I have now insured my car with them & taken out new household insurance - based on my experience I am happy to recommend them.

Fence Damage
A few months ago my 30 mtr super six fence got blown down so I contacted GIO to let them know the details and was told to send through a quote, which I did. I was then told it would be assessed and they would be in contact. A Few days later I was notified my claim was accepted and that a cheque would be in the mail, great I said, expecting them to only send a cheque for half the amount less excess. Premium Rise
Noticing that our home/contents/landlord premiums had risen by over $60 per month I shopped around for the 1st time. We have had home/contents insurance for 29 years and made 1 claim (for a broken window in '84) in all that time. Have 7 policies with GIO. I have moved our home/contents/landlords insurance and am now paying $160 a month less. I wish I had been paying more attention in years gone past, rather than just automatically renewed our insurances. Also, there should be some incentive/bonus for people who never claim, or haven't claimed in 10 years. I will looking at the car insurances when they come up again!

Five stars to GIO Geelong Branch for their fantastic customer service. They rang me before my insurance was due and helped me to get the best insurance premium. I am happy with the content and insurance cover provided and very happy with the price. Good service deserves to be noticed.

Excellent
I have always found the call centre staff at GIO to be helpful and friendly. They have been polite at all times and I have never had to wait long on the phone. They have been quite informative and happy to answer any questions I have. I have never had an issue with the insurance policy as I have never had to make a claim. I have also found the premiums quite reasonable and comparable with other companies, and often cheaper.I would happily recommend GIO to all of my friends and family.

Simple errors took some time to be corrected.
House Fire
Notified GIO that our rental property burnt down on Monday, Tuesday morning the property was assessed, Tuesday afternoon we were advised that there would be an investigation as their were suspicious circumstances, Thursday afternoon we were advised that the investigation has been completed and the claim would be paid. Four days.
Rental income was paid ongoing until the claim was completed within three months.
We could not have been happier with GIO. GIO were very caring and kept us informed

OK
Used them for 30-odd years and never had a problem.
Had about three claims for storm damage, no problem. Assessors really helpful. Never had any reason to go anywhere else. Premiums competitive.
Efficient and helpful.
Like any insurance company, don't pay unless they have to.

Good
The service over the phone was courteous and efficient. I was very happy with their helpful and friendly management of my claim
Following a burglary in which a window was broken I contacted GIO on a Sunday afternoon. They organised a glass company to immediately replace the broken window and processed my claim over the phone. I did not have to do a thing. The service was outstanding with absolutely no inconvenience to me.

Bad
Have had insurance for around 6 years and our first claim was made due to washing machine flooding and causing damage to our timber floorboards & some carpeted areas. We had to have all of our floorboards replaced and accomodation was organised to move out for 4 weeks. This was all satisfactory. What really made us upset was that we confirmed with GIO the move in date and time 3 days before, turned up and it was not ready for us to move back in. Read more day, house was not cleaned properley, we had to have the walls repainted, and our benchtops had been scratched. GIO did not take any responsibility and kept passing it on to the contractor, with no follow up or support from them. We had to make each contact with them. Now our diswasher has been ruined due to re-installation and no-one will accept responsibility, and GIO says there is nothing they can do. Plus there is still no follow up on our benchtops. So much for all works being guaranteed. work was attended to in good time period from date of claim there is no follow up by staff, no-one calls you back, no interest in keeping their customers happy.- 9 reviews

Excellent
Have always found GIO to be good with auto insurance, building and contents - when they were government and also when they went private. However my last experience: the strata plan insurance was overpaid! I didn't relish the thought of going through a call centre, so I emailed them on evening at about 9pm. At 9.15 the following morning I received a phone call from GIO, discussed the situation with them, they dook my details and said refund would occur straight to my bank account in 5 days. Awesome customer service!
