BEWARE, these are NOT premium knives and are a flawed design.
I was lucky enough to receive a New Global Millennium 7 piece block as a gift some years back. So far I've had 2 knives break where the blade meets the handle, and a 3rd is corroding and rusting in the same spot. Global Knives are manufactured without a tang, an extension of the blade steel that goes into the handle to provide strength (a few thousand years of sword manufacture proves this). Instead, the blade and handle are made as separate parts and welded together, search the web for Global knives manufacture and you'll find a video that sho...ws this. This weld is where they snap. The 2 piece construction and welding is great for making cheap knives, but NOT good for strength and longevity, it's putting a join right where all the stress of the knife will be concentrated. Buy different knives, these are not built to last and you'll be paying a premium price for an inferior product. I would never buy this brand of knife again.
Purchased in February 2012 at Myer for $539.00.
Bought a set of Global Knives from House while on special, however soon discovered these knives don't last. 3 of the knives chipped within the first month and the rest were chipped throughout the year. With the blades chipped, it's really hard to cut any types of meats, as the sinews gets caught in the groove. What's the point of lifetime warranty if chips are not covered? In contrast our cheaper Scanpan blades work perfectly, and are much cheaper too. Save your money for products that actually work as intended.
Poor Quality, over priced, poor company!
I purchased a set of the knives, retailing at $799.00, and on first use a chip was taken out of my blade! Considering it was only a chicken breast, an onion and some capsicum that I cut (on a wooden board) I presumed it was mechanical defect (as I meticulously take care of my possessions).
The company and their poor management, refused it to be a defect and would not honour their warranty upon my return.
Such an expensive set with a questionable reputation, I would honestly not recommend, rather would discourage, anybody from purchasing these...
