GME xrs 330 – Instalation: very easy to install. The power cable however, is too short. Another 2m would have been awesome. Mounting the unit was a breeze. The coms cable with the extension is perfect. Menu: Most of the features are not applicable for me. Start up: very quick start up on the radio & app. Tracking: love the new features. Map is accurate and easy to use. Waypoints are easy to mark.
Disappointing product from GME – As most have said about this piece of junk Antenna has broken in 3 months, GME wouldnt replace Seems to sqwash to much than most i have come across. When i sell the vehicle going to leave it in somebody else might have more luck understanding how it works.
Anntenna and GME advice completely inadequate – Extremely disappointed with GME. I specifically rang them to ask about which antenna I should buy for a trip from Alice Springs to the Kimberley. I was getting the GME XRS 330. I bought the antenna they recommended and it lasted 4 days before it broke. I bought it against the advice of the 4wd guy at TJM, thinking I was getting the best advice… Read more
possible by ringing GME.
They were completely reluctant to honour their advice and provide the antenna that they should have recommended, and honour a warranty on an antenna that lasted 4 days before breaking, so I was stuck in the north of WA with no radio.
I would highly recommend looking elsewhere, firstly as their support people no idea and secondly as their product as recommended is completely inadequate.
Made in Australia great.. But – I've been involved in CB radio since 1973 so I've had a few and had some experience, then comes UHF cb oh what a difference. I love the fact that the two gme units I own are Aussie made, well done gme, but this xrs-330c is expensive hi-tech and confusing. The menu systems are complicated and I don't have a printed manual, a stupid idea, I have to… Read more
download a pdf file and read it on my puny phone screen, I've run out of ink on my printer so I can't print it out. Bad idea gme! Selcall is total confusing on both my GME's I also have a tx6500s. The sound quality on the speaker on the hand peice is pathetic, sounds like those tin-can radio's we made when we were kids. Oh with a 2 watt amp, though when communicating with my 6500s it sounds OK. "UPDATE 1 MONTH LATER", I bought a GME extension Speaker, Sounds better now... I have replaced this cb, I use to have a Uniden uh8080nb and that sound heaps better. I think I am going to put in an extension speaker, another item in the car. Overall the build quality seems very good. The handset oled is good, shame I can't change the colour of the display like I could on the Uniden to match my dash. The xrs connect is strange it connects to Bluetooth fine but several functions don't work, the app can't close so I have to force close it, it's almost useless. Maybe my Huawei Mate 20 pro phone?? Now I have to get back and try to read the manual on my puny screen so I'll try to remember how to do certain functions. Thank you..
Look for another model or brand - GME have gone backwards this time – Every four or so years i get a new work vehicle, and each time i get a new GME unit. When I buy portable units for our farm, or for work we buy GME. The first model i had was a TX4000 many years back. Again this year i went with GME for a new vehicle, and picked up the XRS 330CTP unit as it seemed to be a upgraded and modern option compared to the… Read more
others on the market. It is not what i was expecting and I am thoroughly disappointed with the unit. Its like all of the good bits from the old units were forgotten with the new unit, starting with horrible sound quality, and the fact that the XRS connect app doesn't work with iPhones which are 50% of the Australian market. It doesn't work on iPads either. My advice, buy an older model, or switch brands
A truly wonderful piece of kit – I bought this radio as we travel/4WD in the Vic High country as well as Outback Australia and I wanted something reliable, rugged and compact. The radio unit is small and mounted discretely behind the dash, all the controls are on the handset. What I like is the simplicity to use basic functions and the ability to go deeper into it and discover… Read more
some of the useful functions I've not found in any other UHF unit. As we travel in the Vic High Country it is important to me to be able to monitor the CFA and other emergency channels during the bushfire season. I have programmed all relevant CFA channels into zone 2 and the radio scans these at 50 channels per second. You can create and share scan lists and access a library of over 20,000 registered frequencies. I can upgrade the radio software through an app on my phone that connects via Bluetooth, the app is supported by GME and keeps my radio up-to-date with new technologies free of charge. This brand new feature enables me to record all voice transmissions received from other radios. Quickly and easily play back the recorded transmissions, eliminating missed calls. I can also record and store the first 30 seconds of each received transmission, with a total recording of 12 minutes. During playback, the radio will display the name of each recording and the time elapsed since the call was received. The sound is clear (which I appreciate as I have a degree of industrial deafness) and the display clear and simple. the microphone has customisable buttons which allows me to tailor it to my preferences. I have found the range of the radio to exceed any radio I have had before and in fact I have had contact from my home in the Dandenong Ranges with someone at Mt Macedon. There is a range of antennas available and interchangeable to suit all my requirements. The unit does not come with a user manual but that is available online. The support from GME is second to none and I have joined their Facebook page to monitor comments which I have found mostly positive. My wife who asked why I need a radio in the car has become a convert, she also uses it to communicate to other vehicles in our groups. I would recommend the GME XRS to anyone looking to purchase a UHF radio, no they are not the cheapest units on the market but in the price range, I have found nothing that compares.
You don't always get what you pay for – Unfortunately this was a case of not getting what I paid for. I thought that I would invest in the latest and greatest, GME XRS. I like gadgets and new innovative products, so the GME XRS seemed like the right choice, although the price was certainly putting me off. Firstly there were no instructions included at all, not even a quick start… Read more
guide so if I had no or little experience with radios this may have proved to be a problem from the get go. The Bluetooth connectivity is VERY temperamental, and more frustrating than useful. To update the firmware (one of the advertised features) you have to be able to connect via Bluetooth, however if the units wont pair this make firmware upgrading a pipe dream. I purchased the portable pack, which in hindsight was a waste of time as the included antenna has very poor range which is not acceptable when spending this much money. The range is comparable to a $60 portable 5 watt ebay UHF CB I recently purchased. I am hoping that the performance of the unit will improve with the addition of a fitted higher gain antenna.
