Disappointed
We love the gro company and use a lot of their products. The room egg thermometer is great, the blackout blind is great, and I was hoping this clock would be great too. Unfortunately I found the box and advertisement abit misleading. I assumed that the yellow sun would be on the screen during the day, and the blue star on the screen during the night (which then changes to the sun when it was wake up time). This is not the case. The blue star is displayed during the day and night. The sun is only displayed at wake up time for 2hrs. This confuse...
Read mores my son. My son is 3 and asks me to display the sun during the day as it is daytime outside. This clock was expensive and is causing confusion. From my experience I do not recommend. I will be looking at other brandsPurchased in May 2020 at Dick Smith for $49.95.

Disappointed
Someone bought this for me in 2016 when I was pregnant and we have had it packed away until today. We opened it up today and the pictures and clock don't light up fully.
Purchased in September 2016 at Myer.

Great concept terrible manufacturing
Within 6mo bits from the screen started to disappear until it was no longer working. No matter what we tried nothing would work. There is no warranty - esp after it had worked for about 6 months. Now we don't even know the best environmentally responsible way to dispose of it. Very sad.
Purchased in January 2017 for $50.00.

Good idea, poor quality
We loved this to start with and our son learned to wait in bed until the sun came up. However like several other reviews have stated, parts of the display started disappearing after 6 months. We took the clock back for a replacement and were told our unit was the only one they’d ever seen with this fault (which clearly isn’t true, reading these reviews).
The replacement clock had exactly the same problem, and again the store expressed surprise. This time I didn’t bother getting a replacement.
In short: good idea, but very disappointing quality especially considering it’s not a cheap item. I definitely wouldn’t get another one.
Purchased in April 2017 at Baby Bunting for $60.00.

Would be great if not for low build quality
We have two of these, one for each child. When they work they're awesome, but they've also suffered numerous problems around both LCD display and power connectors.
The first problem, on our first clock, involved one of the eyes of the sun vanishing and failing to work, so from then on the Sun only had one eye. This was of increasing distress to our child, who wanted to know when it'd be fixed. We arranged a fix with "the hospital" (ie. the retailer) who (after photos and a lengthy explanation) required us to courier it back, and then mailed us...
Read more a replacement. The time in between, without a clock at all, made bedtime even more complicated than a sun with only one eye. Since then, the replacement clock suffered a frayed cable from the power supply, which we replaced with an old one from another product, that happened to fit, found lying around the house rather than go through the replacement process again. Our second GroClock, for the other child, has also suffered LCD problems, although in that case it's primarily been with numbers on the clock display (which means little to our child at this point) so it's gone unnoticed. Most recently, the plug in the back of the clock has become unreliable which means that when it's pushed in fully, it's disconnected, and so it has to be pulled very slightly out in order to work. The concept of these is great, but if our kids weren't already hooked on them then we'd not bother with them because sadly the build quality seems atrocious. If you plan to buy one anyway, I'd strongly suggest purchasing from a local retailer from whom you can rapidly arrange same-day replacements without needing to rely on a courier service that can mean being without the product for days or weeks at a time while the bureaucracy gets sorted out.Purchased in December 2016.

Sub standard
This has never worked for our son in terms of getting him to sleep in longer. But he got used to the ritual of putting the stars out every night so we continued to use it.
After about 12months the wiring started fraying and poking out of the cord where it plugs into the light. A look on thier facebook page to message them about it showed that it's a common problem. They sent another for free, however a few more months later this is dying too.
As our son is now 4 and knows his numbers we bought a regular alarm clock for the nights the gro cl...

Difficult to program, didn’t keep to time (ran fast)
I found this clock very difficult to program. Once programmed and working it then gained time, waking earlier and earlier each day. It just ended up confusing my son. Other cons with the design: blue night light and no back up battery. Only used for a week then ended in the bin. Unfortunately I had brought the clock ahead of time as I had heard how great it was so it was out of warranty.
Settings were invented by a Chimp
My daughter and I loved the way the clock gently transitioned from the sunny Sun to starry Star. My daughter smiled and I nodded reassuringly. It was all downhill from there as the alarm beeped away at 2am for the next 2 days. By the 3rd night I'd given up trying to work out how to turn the alarm off and half the other changes I needed to make this clock functional and now it resides, part of the landfill at our local dump. This over priced light bulb simply adds to the frustration in the day of typical time poor parents. I'm going back to a good old night light that worked well for my other two children.

Don't buy this product!
We bought this when my daughter was around 2. It appeared to work but to be honest it was the same time when clocks were going back to regular time. In the summer months she is now back to 6am wake ups! A number of my friends have given up on the clock too!
I wouldn't buy this again.

Great idea, but wrong colours!
Blue light suppresses melatonin, the stuff we need to sleep. The clock concept is great, but it actually stimulates and disturbs sleep instead of encouraging it. Kids get the "wait for the sun" concept, but their sleep patterns are being disturbed. If they can get the colours right, this would be a great product.
Kids love the concept
The blue light is a poor choice and actively disturbs sleep

Waste of money
After paying $79 for this clock, my 3 year old daughter was really excited by the idea of saying good night to the sun (to the point she asked to go to bed early!) so when I explained the starts and the time, and that when the sun comes up she can get up she was super eager. It took her 2 mins to work out that touching a button brought the sun back.... Activating the 'key lock' worked a treat the following night - for 1 night! the very next night, she has worked out how to take the key lock off and turn the sun on.
for $79 I expected more tha...

Disappointing
We purchaced a Gro Clock to help our 24mt old who was waking anywhere between 5am and 6am to stay in bed a little bit longer, and give her a visual cue to let her know it's ok to get up now. She has quickly fallin in love with her sun and star clock and happily announces the sun rising at 6am. She also really enjoys the little story book the comes with the clock.
I was desperate to love this product and if it had been designed better, I would. It took all but a few days for our daughter to figure out how to deacitvate the lock out mode (Hold...
Read moreing down a button for 3sec) and make the sun rise anytime she likes. The power cord to the back is also just a plug rather than being hardwired into the clock, meaning inquisitive toddlers can easily pull the power cord out and put it back in to make the sun come up. Once your toddler figures this out the product is virtually useless. I wonder if the Gro Company did any R&D on this product before putting it on the market, because surely if they were designing a clock to be put in a childs room it would be sufficiently toddler proof? All they would have to do is remove the buttons off the front and onto a remote control which can be stored out of reach and hardwire the power cord and this product would have got 5 stars from me. As others have said, a battery back up would be handy as well. My toddler loves it, cute graphics, nice story book To easy for toddlers to tamper with, power cord can be pulled out, expensiveGood idea, poorly executed
Recommended to me to transition my 2.5yr old into a bed.
The idea was great, she was very excited about saying good night to the sun and understood not to get up until the sun did. On the first night, she was too impatient to wait for the sun and pressed buttons until she made the sun come up (by disabling the 'key lock / child lock') - way too easily done.
My toddler has now worked out to pull the plug out and put it back in (or turn the power switch off then on) to make the sun come up. This product is designed for toddlers and is clearly...

Our gro clock keeps turning yellow before the set wake up time. We have followed the instructions exactly and every morning our clock has been set for 6.10 however my son comes out at 6 and the yellow sun is already on. We tried locking it last night.
Not sure what we are doing wrong?

Mine to would love to know why
This has happened to mine also. It’s like it’s gone in to a 24hour timing. I find it really ‘clunky’ to use also. Something that should be really straightforward
