Bissel Carpet Shampooer
I purchased a Bissel Carpet Shampooer in 2013 from Harvey Norman and have only used it 5 times. The brushes no longer rotate and lift the dirt off the carpet I rang Harvey Norman and the person I spoke to said, "It's 5 years old time to buy a new one." I phoned Bissel and they told me the only service agents were in Sydney, Wollongong and Port Macquarie. I live in Newcastle over 2 hours away from each one. You might like to consider availability of after sales service when making your purchase decision.
Still waiting for Air-Conditioner Installer
Went to Thomastown Store and dealt with [name removed] who was very good and informative. Bought an Air-Conditioner (as well as Washing Machine and Dryer) and booked in an installation visit with their recommended company 'Octopuss'. Called them to confirm the day, which they did, but no-one showed. Took the day off work especially ! and 3 weeks later I am still waiting to hear back. Still no show or contact. Have given up.
not impressed with service
bought a toshiba telly from them. had problems with telly. called toshiba but was told to contact harvey norman directly as it is a parallel imported model that's not supported locally.
called Harvey norman up and they said bring it down. brought down telly after work and they said the 'expert' has gone home and there's no one there that could help me. I have to take the telly home and come back two days later.
finally after speaking to the manager he agreed to replace the telly on the spot.

Ordered an appliance via the on-line cataloque because the local store was showing ''out of stock''. After waiting 10 days, I searched the web-site for assistance to be then referred to the ''Click and Collect App" After downloading the App and searching for my order I get a response which says "Something is not right" (Like I needed the App to tell me that ). I tried to phone the customer support number but gave up after 15 minutes on hold. I then sent in an email enquiry asking where the order was. By the time the response was received we are...now out to 13 days since the original order. Response says contact the local store. Phoned the local store to be told the item had arrived that day (but no call or email to us). Visited the store to collect the item. Waited 30 minutes to get served to collect the appliance. While waiting, noted that the same item was now on the shelf - at $10.00 less than paid on-line! Would certainly not use the on-line cataloque facility again. The sub-franchising within the stores makes for poor customer service with sales assistants unable to cross over the magical line between departments, no matter how busy another area may be.
Great service in store but delivery drivers rude
Had a great experience With a knowledgeable and helpful sales man when choosing a washing machine. made the transaction easy. Although not so with the delivery men who were ruse and condescending when they arrived 15 mins before their said time frame and told me I needed to get a better clock. Then had the hide to ask to walk through my house to use the toilet. They did at least take away the old machine and install the new one.

Came in today looking to buy washing machine, was looking at washing machine around $700 spoke to a employee about a certain washer we were looking at, basically says there no good will only last 2-3 years and kept saying there made in south east Asia and there no good bad standards nothing from there will
Last etc (my partner is Asian and we both found this abit affensive) then takes us over to washing machines that are $1400 plus and telling us there German made much better bla bla! We found this embarrassing and frustrating 1. We can barely afford $700 washing machine let alone a $1400 one 2. We found it about offensive talking down about south east Asia (partner being Asian)
We purchased a fridge a few years ago and had it replaced under product care. Assessment was relatively straightforward and replacement offered. Disappointed that the assessor review took a few days to process so we missed delivery dates and went without a fridge for 2 weeks. However biggest issue was them removing the old fridge. We booked it in multiple times over a two month period however they constantly failed to show up. The delivery company they use were hopeless and it was hard to use our kitchen for this 2 month period. In the en...d Harvey Norman picked it up themselves. Do not recommend product care. The Penrith Store also had to be nagged to claim credits and tried to pass it back to Product care. Finally, if Harvey Norman reduce product care price as an incentive to get the total price lower, the docket doesn't reflect the individual cost of the fridge and product care. When we claimed the fridge, they deducted the product care cost at its RRP. In essence we received less money for the fridge than what we actually paid.
Training is a must in retail
The staff at Harvey Norman need to be friendlier and more professional and helpful. I often find them rather dismissive and just doing their job without appearing to enjoy it! Hey guys and gals, if you want to work in retail remember customer service
Extremely bad service, nobody contacted me following the decision of my claim. Has been 11 business days.
Sales person at Harvey Norman Fortitude Valley told me that minor scratches and damages were not included. Even though my phone has been in a life proof case its entire life.
Many reviews over the internet mentioning low volume issues with Nexus 6P - still Product Care believes that "minor damage" is the reason for low volume.
They are still looking at my claim in regards to the phones battery life. However, I am disappointed th...at they rejected the decision based on physical damage. When the phone has always had volume issues and has EXTREMELY minimal damage. Think before signing up.
Bought a Sharp fridge from Harvey Norman with replacement warranty fridge door would not seal properly decided to make a claim told firstly not covered persevered and spoke to technician and told should be covered, finally made a claim but because of mixup between technician and product care company had to organize inspection myself and after six phone calls to company over 5 weeks they reluctantly decided to honor my claim. Always saying will get back in 48 hours, just be careful if you take this out ask the sales person a lot of questions and make sure it is in writing also copy receipt as they fade after a couple of years.
Online sales are terrible.
HN provides a great service - online chat (to clarify that the appliance is what you need) and interest-free repayments. However their customer service, communication, online sales and delivery are terrible. I exchanged numerous emails and was told I would get an answer in 24 hours, it never happened. Just as my delivery never happened - I ended up cancelling the order after 2 wks. I just had to wait for the transaction to be reversed - another 2 weeks but that eventually occurred. My advice. Don't shop online with HN, there are plenty of other options - let's hope that when Amazon comes to Australia they will really sort stores like this out. In the meantime I will probably physically go into a store - probably The good guys.

Snobby & disrespectful sales assistant
I had the worst customer service experience in Harvey Norman QV three weeks ago. I was not happy with [name removed] attitude, he follows people around like a puppy, and he uses high pressure sales technique to sell stuff. I asked for products recommendation according to my budget and he recommended the most expensive appliances, I already said it is outside my budget but he still insists talking me out to buy that specific brand, maybe because he gets big commission from that company if he sells them. It was selfish and not putting customers' ...best interest at heart. As a sales person you are supposed to listen to customers and provide advice according to customers' needs, not for your own interest. The most insulting part is when he recommended to pay by cash/card instead of finance to save on bank fees, because "we are so tight in money". I spent over $2K and he mentioned our purchase is "small". Who in the world says that to a customer? Customers have rights to spend whatever much they want to spend, tough luck if your sales strategy didn't work. I hope Harvey Norman's store manager takes note of this, I feel I was not treated with respect and I hope he changes his attitude. He is a selfish person, he was degrading us and I would not want to deal with this person ever again! Maybe Harvey Norman can consider remuneration strategy overhaul to focus more on service rather than commissions. So disappointing. I kinda regret why I didnt storm off the store at that time and took my business somewhere else.
Good prices but after-sales service weak
I bought a Fisher&Paykel oven ($3300) and a Neil Perry cooktop ($2499) on Fri 6/1/17. The sales guy said he'd send me the cutout specs for the items later that day. They never came.
Next day I rang back and someone else said they's send. Never came.
Repeat 2 days after - they finally came.
They also said the cooktop would arrive by Fri 13/1/17. Still hasn't arrived a week later.
I called HN on Wed 18/1/17 and spoke with someone. She promised to get back to me with a delivery date.
She never called back.
The after sales service is poor ...

I ordered a juicer on line when I called to find out availability I was told ready to pick up no email then received bad customer service I thought Harvey Norman would at least have good customer Service Not Happy I will take my business elsewhere Shame Mr Norman
Scratched and dented Fridge
Went to Harvey norman to look at a fridge on 26/12/16 ,we seen one we liked paid for it we received it today! .. delivery guys take it out of the box carry it up our stairs and it got Scratched and dented!! I come home from work to see my Fridge in that condition, Not very Happy I would like this fixed up ASAP!!
Really bad service. No one ever around to help and staff on front register so rude. Try and go else where if I can.
Just brought a air conditioning, the salesperson seemed to be little bit out of sorts because we knew what we wanted and had already selected our installer, who by the way had been recommended by another member of staff, may I suggest that you give your customers more than one choice in who they hire to install their air conditioner, we had affinity refrigeration and electrical install our unit. These guys were both professional and friendly.

The Microwave was taken to the Armadale outlet for repairs on 20 September. The staff member promised to send the unit to the repairers and said they would contact me for pick up when the unit was sent back. The unit was repaired and sent back to Harvey Norman on 27th September. After three weeks I contacted the repairers to check if the microwave was repaired and found out that the unit was sent back to Harvey Norman after one week after it was repaired. The unit was lying in HN for three week and nobody informed me that the unit was ready to be picked up. This is not acceptable and only shows the lack of responsibility on the part of Harvey Normal staff.
Service in the shop was wonderful but when it came to delivering the fridge it was appalling.
I was told the fridge would be delivered on Friday which was my day off - Perfect! Then I got a call yesterday to say the fridge would be delivered today Wednesday and as I was unable to take time off work my very busy husband did. Harvey Norman said the fridge would be delivered 9am or 9:30 latest. Well it is now 1:10 and it has finally been delivered. My husband is very very angry and will now have to work late as he has wasted half a day just waiting for the fridge. Now I do not feel happy about getting the fridge and putting my poor husb...and out. He most likely will still be angry for quite a while. If you say you are going to deliver a fridge at a certain time then be there. I could have come home at lunch time and there would have been no problem. I am very very disappointed and it has taken the excitement out of getting a new fridge.

I bought a microwave
Pretty happy with the service. They gave me a good discount on the floor model and it works fine, still has manufacturers warranty. The store is a little run down and it was very busy on Sunday.
When it comes to Harvey Norman discount vouchers, does Harvey Norman always mean what it says about
Not that long ago I purchased a new microwave from Harvey Norman. As a welcome inducement, I was offered a colourful looking $50 discount voucher that was made to look a bit like a pretend $50 note. The terms & conditions on the back of the note said I could claim the discount if I came into the store and spent more than $400 in any area except computers (as it turned out, they would honour it for anything other than a laptop computer).
Yesterday I bought a new dishwasher - sales guy provided an inducement to buy the latest model (why wou...ld you buy the older model?...because the latest can be sold on the "newer" features with the greater profit margin built in.). I was planning to spend up to $100. For this model the on-line price was $1189. Admittedly it did have some nice features the older model lacked, such as being super quiet to run. I'm a regular customer so he asked for my phone number to bring up my profile. All good so far. I tell him I can see The Good Guys selling it for $1188. He offers $1150 cash or card and wouldn't budge below that as he says it is already discounted at that price, even for cash. Sure I say, then I make a deposit over the phone. Then he did the usual up-sell with extended warranty. I'm sure it's a big cash cow for Harvey Norman. One the one hand manufacturers are reaching a hold grail of profit generation by engineering appliances to have more features with short life spans. "It's only designed to last 6 years, I can offer an extended warranty up to 6 years", the sales guy says. I told him that for the money I am spending, it ought to last more than 15 years like my old one did. But no, I wasn't sold on spending one-fifth of the purchase price on an insurance premium. Though Harvey Norman has another inducement here - they "replace" faulty units during the term of the extended warranty. They make it sound better than the manufacturer's warranty. Perhaps it is. During the first 2 years of manufacturer's warranty, the manufacturer will repair minor faults and replace only with major faults, but you have to use their technician. I think Australian Consumer Law requires Harvey Norman to handle the matter though and not palm me off to the manufacturer. I've only just bought the unit so we'll see how we go with that one. I get the impression that not everything Harvey Norman says turns out to necessarily mean what they say in another context at a later date. When I go to pay the balance of my deposit I remember my $50 voucher from when I bought the microwave. I'm spending more than $400. Tick. I'm not buying a computer (or, now the meaning seems to have morphed a bit, I can buy a computer, just not a laptop and get $50 off). Tick (I think). This is Harvey Norman. Surely they wouldn't pull a trick like dishonour a discount voucher because I was already offered a discount off the on-line price as an inducement to go into their store? There is nothing on the back of the voucher saying "cannot be used with any other offer", after all. I thought I better phone and have it out with them, as my gut feel tells me they will pull that one over me. This is Harvey Norman and despite the microwave sales lady saying to me so positively that no matter what, you can get an EXTRA $50 off, because it is our special gift to you for your purchase of your new microwave. "You mean, even if the price is already discounted?" "Yes". In fact, on the back of the voucher it says that it CAN be used for sale items!
Delivery costs need to be looked at
Paid over $100 for delivery. For that the washing machine was dropped off in the box. No assistance in unwrapping it, installing it or putting it in the correct place. I bought our last appliance from appliances online, and at the time it was free delivery, and was all installed in place.

The things that used to make Harvey Norman a reliable retailer even as recently as 10 years ago, don't seem to exist any more. Traditionally, HN would be the first place to go for all electronic/ appliance purchases & for that reason it has been the place I always go first knowing I will be making a purchase & to be honest, wanting to get it done reasonably quickly without any fuss. I am basing my review on attempts to purchase the following list of items from HN where I located the item I wanted at HN, given up & then purchased from an altern...ate retailer (most often The Good Guys): vacuum cleaner (x2), washing machine, laptop (x2), television, microwave, coffee machine, xbox, blender, mobile phone, personal grooming, hi-fi and fan. My experience has consistently been the same. Finding the item I wanted online & going in store to purchase, rarely able to find anyone to serve me or waiting more than 10 minutes after alerting staff that I wanted to purchase an item or had a question, often having to queue at the cashier's desk to ask them to request a sales attendant to assist me. I remember once waiting for a prolonged period after two attemps to call a salesperson, who was unoccupied & in clear view rushed to answer a ringing telephone before getting back to me. I have tried communicating that all I wanted to do was purchase a particular item and I would be in and out quickly to make a hassle free sale, but even that didn't work! HN also used to be the ideal store to try out or inspect display stock before making a purchase, nowadays if you cant have a conversation with a sales assistant the only option you get is to read the box or an online description. I understand that the rise of online retailing must have impacted shopping instore but overall based on my experience, I won't bother shopping with HN until I've exhausted other available options.
Take your money, make you wait!!!!
We purchased an oven and also checked other store prices, but the one in Harvey Normans was available in a few days, (so they said) and our other had ceased to work.
Said it would be delivered in three days. A week later, no sign of it, and to make matters worse, no communication at all from HN. I rang them three times today. Twice they said they would find out and ring back. Silence!!!!
Third time I was told it would have to be ordered from the manufacturer and should be there by next Wed! No apology, just appalling customer service. Pity they don't charge your card until they have it available, or I would have cancelled and gone elsewhere.
