Issue resolved following HBF contact.
Had issues with claiming after changing insurance funds and clearance certificates.
Initially had conflicting information, however supervisor has now clarified these issues. Ya ya ya ya
Not happy with HBF Loyalty.
I would like to ask HBF why they don’t treat each members on their loyalty and not like all the rest. I am a 74 old pensioner and have been in the fund for over 21 years, no previous operation and been told I need a complete Hip Replacement. I have full health cover for Hip Reconstruction, but not Hip Replacement and have been told that I have to pay extra money an extra $40.00 per month and wait 12 months for operation. Have contact them to come to an agreement and letter regarding Doctors recommendation that operation was need within 6 months.... Their comment was 12 Months is the required time needed for the operation. Asked if I paid an amount towards the operation their stated 12months required. They stated if I had operation earlier I might drop my cover, at my age and how long I have been a member. What a joke. Not happy Member Ines Stevanovski
Free Flu shot not for all eligible regional members!!
Free Flu shot is not available for all Eligible Regional HBF members due to the partnership that HBF has made with Pharmacy 777. This Pharmacy chain is mostly within the city area, then Geraldton, Carnarvon, Karratha and finally Port Hedland!! HBF eligible members miss out everywhere else (except for Kalgoorlie and one other country town - agreement with an independent pharmacy)
The State and Federal Government and relevant Health Departments highly encourage the population of Australia to take up the Flu vaccine, as does HBF.
How is it, th...
I am a HBF member for more than 20 years, thinking of swaping and i decided to read reviews for both health insurers. I didn't realised how many bad reviews HBF has. I think this helped me make up my mind. I'm changing... same cover for less money..I'm going,Sorry HBF
I’ve been a member of HBF for 64 years with top hospital and extras cover. Recently, on the recommendation of a family member, I decided to try going to an Osteopath for treatment on my back to find this service was not covered by my health insurance. When I contacted HBF I was told I would need to change my level of cover to include Osteo as it could not be added to my existing cover and then I would have a two month wait to claim. Very disappointed in HBF and their lack of compassion and flexibility time to look elsewhere for health insurance.
was on the hospital + essentials young saver plan or something its all changed now prices got up all the time. went to the hospital once had to see a E.N.T doctor huge gaps in the cover doctors have booking fees of like $250 per visit medicare is covering more than they are been with them for 7 years +
who are these people that are making the fees go up why are massages covered and not pharmacy and doctor booking fees not covered next year it will go up again the basic and bronze cover is rubbish gold is the only one that could be worth it
Gapsaver not what its cracked to be if you leave
We have been paying the highest amount of gapsaver with HBF to create a bank for upcoming dental expenses. We've accumulated about $1000 of our own money. Recently we had to close our account because my husband has a health policy through his new job. When I questioned why my gapsaver wasn't refunded, I was told that it's not possible and I should have read the disclosure statement. When they sold me this scheme, there was absolutely no mention of this if we decided to leave. They told me that they will go back 2 years and use up as much of it...for me as possible. I've already claimed what I could using the gapsaver so looks like our hard earned money is lost forever. So just a warning to everyone about Gapsaver, don't let it build up too much because if you leave, there's no refund. Also pays to read the fine print, which they should tell you about during the sale. Furthermore, HBF have really cut back on their claim amounts so I'd be doing some shopping around. We have been with them for 20 years and this is the thank you!!!
Ill be running from hbf for a reason
Im not going into details on this site because i think i would run out of space but i will say this.
I have been a long time member with hbf and now i feel like they dont know whats going on and im just being fed mis information because it feels like everyone i talk to at hbf had there own answer to my problems and nothing is solved.
USED to be good value, they’ve cut so much I’m not even sure what I’m paying for now
Been with them for 3.5 years. They where great at first and good value for money, but they’ve cut more and more each year, now I’m not sure why I pay them $125 a month just for extras! I’m changing providers for sure
Reneged on our policy 6 months into our annual cover
We signed up for a twin singles saver in December 2017, around March this year 2018, we received a letter informing us that the policy will be changed in July 2018, with 5 cover options removed.
We haven't received any contact with regards to reimbursement for removal of these policy options, only we've been told there's nothing we can do to stop HBF from taking this action.
Its confusing too as they have informed that the ACCC approved these changes. I don't see how a company can renge whenever suits them when we laid down a yearly payme...nt for a policy which is being stripped back within 6 months of initial purchase. We won't be renewing our policy at the end of the year, this action by HBF proves they could make further changes in future to what suits them. I suggest any other Western Australian to shop around and put HBF at the bottom of your list.
West Australians need to start looking around!
I have been a loyal member of HBF ever since working age. Joined HBF because everybody else was doing it - its WA's largest private health fund. I have never had any trouble claiming anything and have always had a pleasant experience whenever I needed to call someone. I moved interstate very recently and HBF is not based where I am now so I was inclined to move to a difference health fund. I had no problems with cancelling except not being told that I would forfeit whatever I had in my gapsaver. Only found out about this when I followed up abou...t my cancellation. Now in NSW and signed up with another health fund and getting much more value compared to HBF! West Australians should look out of the HBF bubble that they're in and look at all the other competitors out there, only wish it didn't take me moving interstate to realise this!
Cover not as good as it appeared
After switching from another provider, as we were told we could get better coverage for less, we were happy we had a great insurer, until it came time for major surgery for our child.
Only private hospital doctors available, no option for anesthetist, had to go with who was HBF pick ($400 out of pocket), plus dentist picked by HBF ($750 out of pocket), plus $400 gap from ENT... and nothing back from HBF. Changed providers very quickly.
Twice my claims were rejected - and on one occasion it was an emergency hospital visit, so I had to get transferred! Very costly monthly payments.
Very disappointed. Do not recommend.
Call centre service/wait times
Been with HBF for 12 months and haven't had any issues. Called HBF to clarify as issue and have been on hold for over 40mins now. No indication of how much longer I'll need to be on hold, no idea where I am in the queue. Yet to speak to a human being. Tried to ring my local branch but no answer.
My call was answered after 50mins on hold and the person was SO helpful! Told me my claim would be fully covered, asked me if there was anything else he could help with. He changed my policy so I'd get an additional $700 in claims for only $520 out of pocket. Even stayed on the phone past 6pm (their phone centre close time) just to be sure he'd answered all of my questions.
Great and fast, bit pricy.
Got all four of my wisdom teeth out at once and it cost me $180. HBF were amazing over the phone and covered basically the whole thing. Have always had great service and love being able to pull out my card and cover everything.
Policy does increase though, getting more and more expensive.

Why is the gap saver no longer available?
Hi Davidg, thank you for getting in touch!
We proactively review our health cover offering, which can lead to us making changes to our suite including closing certain products for sale. In 2019 we reviewed our suite and decided to close Gap Saver to new sales. This cover option is still available to those who held it at the time it was closed.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 133 423. -Bella
