i have a holler 11t how much is it to run for an hour
I worked out my cost using the electricity bill. When the heater and room are warmed up, timing the thermostat for 'on periods' and 'off ones' for about 10-15 minutes gives you a percentage of the overall power used. The thermostat could be 50% (on and off) for a 1,100-Watt heater = 550 overall etc. That's more than half a Kilowatt/hour, which was a rate of about $1.10 per hour for my HOIL5 when I left Tasmania in 2019. Add the service charges for 3 months and divide by the heater's hours of use. For example, 3 hours per night comes to about 279 hours per quarter, multiplied by $1.10, for me.
If that seems complicated, just use the 'cents/hour' for the power tariff on your bill for now. Anything above 1,000 Watts will boost the cost. For example, a 1,500-Watt heater might be half as much again as the tariff cost, and a 2,400-Watt one might be $2.40 per hour, but take into account the thermostat, which could bring the cost down to 50 Cents or $1.20 or more per hour, especially in the middle of Winter!
Living in a sunny room in Winter helps a lot!
Hello, do we have to use both switches ( the ones with red lights) when they turn back on?? Not sure whether to use only one switch or both - please help ??
There is one switch for each of the two heating elements. Only one switch on will use half the power, but two is better for faster heating. Both on will heat the walls and ceiling of a room faster, maintaining a better on/off cycle for the thermostat. In cooler weather, only one switch on might cause the thermostat to remain on permanently in a cooler room.
My newly purchased Heller oil column heater keeps switching itself off
The thermostat will cause the heater to reach a specific temperature and then turns off. If the heater is turning off more often (even on the highest setting) it could be an electrical fault with appliance.
I first noticed that my heater's thermostat turned off very readily, even at a comfortable thermostat setting! Waiting for the room to warm up can take more time, so firstly turn the thermostat up higher for a short time. Then turn it back slowly until it switches off. A comfortable room temperature will then be maintained.
My 11 fin Heller oil heater keeps turning on and off as though it has reached a set temperature (which it hasn’t). I’ve bypassed the timer which hasn’t made any difference. I’d appreciate any advice this group may have to help resolve the problem. Thanks
Timer or thermostat? If you turn the thermostat up to maximum and it still turns off prematurely, I don't see why at the moment. Knowing where the heater is used will help as confined spaces will make it turn off sooner. I noticed that mine did turn off easily, so I had to turn the knob up more in the beginning. I need to be present for a better diagnosis..
Thanks Ray. The room is a very large open space, approx 8m x 5m and the heater is on the highest setting. I’ve tried with and without the fan. Perhaps the thermostat is malfunctioning. Appreciate your comment.
Unfortunately, I didn't get this message a year ago! That room is massive and will require nothing less than a $2,400-Watt 11-fin heater if insulation is light. I gave a friend a larger heater, which only just warmed a lounge and kitchen of 7 x 4 metres in Winter before moving. However, two walls were timber features and two of plastered brick, but the highlight was the Caneite ceiling - some of the best insulation I know of! I kept my smaller heater.
Turned it on and after 3 minutes it turns off for 2 muntes at a time. Wont stay on. My heller 11 just purchased this week from kogan turns off every 5mins. It seems it's either overheating straight away or the thermostat is not taking rooms temperature properly and instead taking temperature from inside the heating element. It takes 2 minutes to come back on. Any help?
