CAR BROKE DOWN - DAY 1
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE - DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!! Took out a subscription in the afternoon yesterday, drove the car home. Tried to start the car to go to work in the morning and it doesn't start. Called road side assistance who came out to check the battery and it wasn't a battery issue. Then waited a few more hours, missed out on a lot of work in the morning whilst I had to wait for the tow truck. Car is towed and they haven't provided me with a solution of a replacement... just "waiting to hear". I needed the car specifically today and more importantly tomorrow as I go away fro the weekend. Decided I would just go buy a car but they WON'T CANCEL. So now I am stuck paying for 4 months and at it seems at the moment... without a car.
Scam - do not sign that agreement
Scam. Don't sign that agreement - you're signing your life away. Don't make the same mistake I did, these guys need to be put out of business.
I knew I should never have gone to these guys because of the abysmal reviews I read. But I desperately wanted to believe in them so I went against my gut.huge mistake.

I approached them to sell my car for me. I obtained two on-line quote ranges within a few weeks of one another, both showed a similar price range. The inspection was organised well and the person from Red Book gave the car a thorough examination. They called me on Friday evening which was not convenient and agreed to call again the following morning at a set time. They didn't call and I had to call them. I was then told that they had made a mistake with my quotes and offered me in the high $30K's for the car rather than the mid to high $40K's which I'd been led to expect by their estimates (the car is in very good condition). It is my opinion that they either deliberately mislead people, or simply do not know their business.
Typical Used Car Dealers, Don't Believe the Hype.
They wanted me to pay $49 for the right to test drive the car.
Worse, they tried to pressure me into paying a $500 deposit to 'secure' the car before I had even seen it!
Top notch business model!
I had booked car for Test drive for 30th of March at 9:00 AM. I did my booking on 29th of March 2018. No one came till 9:15 AM. and no one informed me at any point of time that they are closed. When I called support number, I came to know that they were closed as per the voice message. Got call from someone later to let me know that they are closed and offered me to arrange the test drive for next day. My whole plan went for a toss. They themselves were not aware that they will be closed on this day. You know what? I have ended up buying anothe...r car on next day morning at 8:00 AM. Hellocars have not given me any service but charged me $49. It is more than 17 days but have not seen any refund. Probably they have too many system issues and want to build their business model using our money! I will suggest to think twice before you interact with them.
Great idea, execution could be better
I bought two-year-old car from them. Car is in great condition as advertised. There were two issues during the process. No 1. They brought me wrong car. It was the same model and colour, but different variant and rego. Simple mistake I presume. No 2. Odometer was at 21k instead of 19k.
Waste of time. Stay away!
I received an online quote of around $10,000. I was happy with the range and booked an inspector. Inspector came (30 mins late) and he was not a mechanic or has any tools to inspect the car. Saw some old oil marks from distance (already fixed years ago) and reported it as a current oil leak. Received $3,500 offer. Such a waste of time. Never again.
Actual quote lower than online range estimate
I read some good reviews on this page hence decided to try this dealer for the sale of my car. Unfortunately im disappointed as my experience is far from a good one. The online quote range provided looked good but the actual offer following the inspection was more than $2000 lower than the lower range of the online quote. As im typing this review HelloCars sent through a $50 Woolworths voucher to compensate for our time wasted. I take that as a gesture of goodwill, for this reason im giving a 3 Star instead of the original 1 Star I had in mind.
Convenient, but a headache and poor service.
Not going to lie, the purchase was convenient. The car seems to work just fine so far.
However, they have made too many mistakes for me to give them a positive review:
On the day my car was meant to be delivered, they scratched the windscreen. Instead of offering to replace it straightaway, I had to NEGOTIATE for them to replace it. The car was 24 hours late, and they offered no compensation, no extra service.
In fact, the area manager called me to say: "We have put in a lot of extra effort for you, like replacing the windscreen, we ...just want to make sure you are going to buy the car instead of returning it and changing your mind." (They offer a 7 day no questions asked money back guarantee). The fact that the area manager thought he was doing me a favour by replacing a scratched windscreen speaks volumes about their attitude towards customers. The logbook has not been properly stamped, which is quite worrying.
Overall, would definitely buy from again.
- The process was exactly as described, it seemed too good to be true. Prices were very reasonable and no need to haggle.
- Car was in great condition, better than expected.
- Customer service was friendly and generally responsive.
- Delivery was great, we travelled from the Hunter Valley and they met us at the train station.
- Car was advertised with February rego, where it really expired in January. Hellocars were quick to over compensation for the approx. 3 weeks difference but after 12 phone calls I still haven't seen...
The actual experience and customer service was quite good but the result was ridiculous. They explained that the final price was more than 20% below the bottom of their original range because they had made a mistake when they gave me that original price range (they actually blamed another unnamed company for that mistake).
I rang them again a month or two later for exactly the same car and got the same incorrect price range. When I challenged them they gave another excuse and proceeded to give me the 'correct' price range which was still above...
Waste Of Time
I made an inquiry via Carsales about a vehicle which turned out to be for sale through HelloCars. Rang the number and was subject to a long winded spiel about how great HelloCars are. After repeatedly asking where the car was and when I could test drive it, I was told that a 'valet experience' could be arranged for me to test drive the vehicle and it would 'only' cost me $49.00 for the privilege. I am not paying in advance without seeing the car. Nor am I paying to take a car for a 30 minute test drive. This is a $30,000 car. If you want to sell it, don't charge potential buyers to look at it. I don't need the proposed big red bow on the bonnet of the car I buy from HelloCars. Sell your big red bows and do away with the $49.00 gouge.
Waste of 1 hour.
After being contacted and offered guide lines of 16.5k - 17.8k due to demand for a Mazda6 touring 2013 model. A 1 hr inspection/ test drive was carried out (which i had'nt been made a ware of a time frame prior) All the positives of the car ie new brakes, door seals near new tyres. all warranty Mazda service records itemized electronics and Nav system updates, recent service (1 week) carried out. none of this taken into account. However due to surface (skin) damage and repaired fully by a executive repair shop (whole new bumper) which the inspe...ctor did not pick out! until i foolishly mentioned. the report went in rear-ended damage i was contacted 4 days later, due to this an offer was not being made on this basis... a 20 min conversation ensued discussing the report and pointing out the inspector had to ask of any damage quite clearly the rear-ending was so severe he missed it!!.... very poor reporting, experience and waste of time...would not recommend the service.!! want new cars at used car prices...good luck!
Great customer service
I sold my car to HelloCars recently and I probably could have got more privately but I got for it almost $2000 more then what I was offered by local dealer. The customer service is very friendly, helpful and always very clear about how it works and offer was in range that was quoted so no bad surprises. I would recommend!
Questions & Answers
Why do you take payments before the week starting on rentals? And when advised that the car is due for a service you disregard?
We live in WA, my wife and I have two sons who live in Melbourne, we visit fairly regularly, we need a cheap car to use when in Melbourne.
For local travel but also to the Vic /NSW border area as well.
We are looking at $5000.00 dollars , but understand that it will be up there with the number of ks, and agewise as well.
We are not too sure how to go about this, for what we want, and to get a reasonable deal?
Perhaps you may be in a different bracket for this type of cheaper car purchase?
But we would be interested in how this might happen, and how much your charges will be, as we have a set budget we need to work towards.
This is an initial have a klook enquiry, but all your information would be appreciated. We are looking at the next three months.
