Screen delaminates in a hot car.
I have had a Hema HN1 for around 5 years now, & whilst it lacks intuitive control I have become accustomed to it & like it. BUT the quality of construction really lets it down. I am curently using my second HN1 after Hema kindly replaced my first one after the glass on the front of the screen began to delaminate & the screen image became black behind the delaminated corner six months out of warranty. (A warranty of only a mere 12 months on a product in this price range is IMHO completely unacceptable). I had always had problems with the micro U...SB power cable maintaining connectivity & had to resort to using sticky tape to hold it in place. Without doing this the charge light would show, but the battery would still lose charge. The replacement came with a different cable, with a right angled plug, I hoped this would resolve the problem and assumed Hema had recognised the issue & addressed it. However despite great care to ensure there was always slack in the cable the same issue reoccurred & sticky tape was required. Unfortunately the need to remove & reapply sticky tape each time the unit was removed from the car winndscreen, meant it was rarely removed. Today was hot & I returned to my parked car to find that not only has the glass screen delaminated (more than on my first HN1) but the case too has split. I have been able to squeeze it all back together & amazingly it still works with no loss of screen image. I guess that I will need to find out what adhesive is required to stick the tempered glass back on more permanently or resort to more sticky tape! My wife & I travel full time, often in remote areas & we chose the HN1 as the top of the range in it's field. However with a 'Top of the range price we feel a good product is badly let down by design & construction issues. The charging cable issue should have been resolved by better design years ago, & a device intended for remote travel & windscreen attachment in Australia is inevitably going to be used in hot weather, & should therefore be constructed in a manner suitable for those conditions without delaminating!

Inaccurate travelling time result
setting a destination, the unit calculates average speed at 40km/h even though roads are sealed and speed limits 110 km/h. Compared with our travelling friends with another HX1, they had the same result so issue is no the hema software.

This is a lemon
Worked great, maps were great, track logs and all to do with GPS was great, also took great pictures and video. Then battery swelled and popped screen. Lost everything. Thats all bye
Purchased in March 2019.
Thanks for your deception Hema HX1
No factually correct updates. Customer service is a joke; they blame mapping company for the mistakes & after all it’s really just a 4WD gps not really for street navigation. 80 zones as 50, same for 70 & 60km/hr zones! Take the money and run!
Purchased in November 2019 for $995.00.
Not fit for purpose in Explore mode for subscription users.
The every day normal traffic maps are fine in ( Drive mode ) BUT I use ( Explore mode ) on the HX-1 and I paid for Explore 4WD and the Explore Pro for my Samsung phone we mapped tracks many tracks, water points, dams, water crossings, creek crossings, dry Weather access, wet Weather access, camp spots, cattle yards, on a 146,000 hectare property in far north Queensland using the HX1 in the vehicle and walking with the Explore pro app and uploading them to the hema cloud was awesome when we returned back into normal phone internet service but af...ter the hema update for ( Explore - Ultimate 4x4 + remote touring app ) on 17th November 2020 the system is no longer fit for purpose. I have had multiple tickets (issues lodged) BUT Hema has mislead me and now removed the app from Google play store. Hema have not only dropped the ball they have exploited Hema customers and in my case I have lost all the maps on the Explore pro app that took time effort and money to make.

Does not like the heat
I attached my navigator in the centre of the windscreen just above the dashboard. It worked well for some time however now when it gets hot, from the sun, something inside it expands forcing the back panel to split from the front. It still works but it is annoying as it does not sit in its cradle once this happens and I am sure that it will eventually fail

Very Disappointed Buyer
Long time locating satellites.Explore mode map drop out so need to zoom out & in to fix.Coolah NP & Mt Moffit missing tracks, points of interest wrong spots, freezes, & hard deleting tracks.
Purchased in July 2019 at BCF Physical Store for $579.00.
We are up to unit (GPS) # 3. Finally this unit (GPS) will accept a charge from the cigarette lighter adaptor supplied. The GPS will 'crash' when in trees and won't even fix to a satellite in our carport. The satellite position fix is very slow and constantly loses a signal. When 'off the beaten track' the free app Mapme is generally better.
In summary the HEMA HX-1 is expensive rubbish.
Average user interface, can't download maps
So just got a new Hema HX-1 with my supertourer from Patriot Campers, apart from not being able to download maps its just a gps. Got a message today that there is an update of all the maps, 4.5gb. Clicked download and it got to South Australia on the list and said "Your HDD is full, try deleting some videos or photos or previously downloaded maps" I just turned the thing on there are no photos or maps to delete. So i can't download the update.
Not worth the price tag
I brought the HX1 even though I’d read mostly bad reviews but thought the reviews sounded like they had come from grumpy old guys, that weren’t tech savvy, unfortunately for me it seems most of the reviews were pretty accurate.
The unit in general is difficult to navigate and not very user friendly switching screens to get around is a pain. screen size is good, and night and day mode works well although it takes a little while to get the correct time for WA as it seems to be set on Eastern states time. There is no clock function on the drive ...
Get the HN-7 before buying HX-1 unless you have in dash reversing camera
Lacks a rear view camera input and is not as easy to use as Garmin.
You have to purchase a range of maps to get any off road coverage which adds to the cost, difficult to input places and not very intuitive.
The fact that the older HN7 has a camera input and the HX-1 doesn't is not clearly articulated.
Get a HN-7 if you want HEMA unless you have in dash reversing camera.
Good idea, poorly executed
I purchased this to use in the 4 x 4 in the main because of the very big screen.
That is about all it has going for it. It is easily the most frustrating piece of electronic equipment I have ever encountered. I have Extensive experience in both government and private use going back to the 90’s so whilst I am no expert I kind of think I can work these devices...except this one is so use unfriendly as to dfy logic.
Firstly it takes HOURS to charge up, about 3 or 4...really in this day and age....
The down loads for maps take an eternity, I am not just saying that...it is incedible.
The thing has to get wifi connected regularly or you cannot. Hange or do things
agree with the others - not sorted enough to be worth the money
a rather expensive and frustrating device. I have not encountered too many problems with the drive section - however I shut all the warnings off as they are distracting. The speed limits are sometimes wrong....
In explore this thing is utterly depended on wifi. The base hema explorer map has very scant detail until you download the maps. This is best done at home before you leave as you need plenty of time - the average maps I downloaded were more than 200mb and the device is VERY slow and takes up to an hour to download . You have to s...ync it after each download as it becomes dysfunctional without syncing - and for a bit more data eating it then uploads your maps to the cloud - making it a double dip for your data, there is no choice in this - you cannot delete tracks or routes without syncing as well. The operation "buttons" on the top of the screen in explore are stupidly small and impossible to use on the move, even the most dextrous passenger will have no hope unless you stop and even then it is fiddly there is also no north up when in track/course up mode the manual does not cover many of these things - all in all too fiddly and way too dependent on an internet connection
Software slow and separate for an update
Almost $700, why? for a headache, the processor is heavy, it takes sometime to clear the screen, when deleting maps or data it stops. Speed and speed cameras is very messy, and not accurate, And you cant turn the unit off while on charger. The first time i held the unit i didn't feel any build quality.
Hema HX 1 navigator with outdated maps maps and information
After purchase I tried the drive navigator and found the maps are extremely out dated. It kept telling me there were speed camera where none have ever been installed, Speed zone was 60 KPH in 2 year old 110 KPH roads. Contacted Hema and was informed that there were no updates available for the navigator. They explained that they had requested the supplier, iGO, to provide updates but had not heard back from them. The HX 1 has been out for a while now so I expect that update would be available.
The Explore section fairs slightly better but the...

Im trying to update my HX-1 but when I go to check for updates now it tells me I have a network error. I've checked the wifi it was fine, reset just in case but still can't get the updates. It also said that we had registered to our email and to reset to another hema cloud ????
The media operator does not work on my HX-1. I can not find any solution to this fault?
Hi Chris, The Hx-1 Navigator is a dedicated GPS unit and as such was not designed to play media files other than the video recorded with the onboard camera. If you would like more information, please email us at: email@example.com
