HIF Resolved the genuine issue raised by myself promptly. Mistake has been fixed and the policy document has been changed as per the HIF staff conversation with me. I am happy with the outcome.

Excellent value and coverage for the price until I claimed for crutches!
I had ankle surgery and the benefits were excellent.
The gold insurance pays for virtually all of my health needs with very little gaps.
Claims paid without drama.
I almost never need to call the company.
Then I submitted my claim for $60 crutches. Not only did HIF argue with me for two hours they finally paid the $60 after ombudsman referral.

Lodge a claim by email
I have been a HIF member for over 40 years. When it was paper and pen era, I found no problem to make a claim. Now in this digital era, this is the first time I make a claim online. A claim has been sent twice to the email address, email@example.com, as shown in the HIF website, and have been knocked back every time.
Just wonder what is happening? Is this email address obsolete? I have tried to lodge a claim online but to no avail due to time restrictions. Why the time limits?
Can someone please point me to the right direction where should...
Unwilling to cooperate
Having been alerted by the comments that follow, HIF customer support rectified their error within hours. This is pleasing and I have changed the star rating accordingly. Just a pity the first point of contact did not yield the same result:
I have been left extremely frustrated by HIF's lackadaisical approach to my predicament. I am signed up to HIF's 'Super' options and recently paid for two months cover up front to take advantage of paying the lower rate before their premium increased. Today, with a rare day off scheduled tomorrow, I d...ecided to book an appointment with the dentist. I then went into HIF's member area online to discover that as far as HIF are concerned, my membership is due for renewal today. This means it will be overdue tomorrow, the day of my scheduled visit. This means my HICAPS claim will not be honoured. Obviously flawed as I have paid upfront for another two months down the line. Having double checked my bank transactions, this was confirmed. I then contacted HIF only to be told to send them an email notifying them of the issue and that it would likely be looked at within a few days. In spite of explaining that it was a matter of urgency given my appointment tomorrow, they could not look into the matter right away. Why? It is their fault and it should be a fairly straightforward procedure. One would imagine they would accept that the onus would be on them to investigate the matter immediately. I am a father working 50 to 60 hour weeks. Days off are rare and the opportunity for dentist appointments rare. I will now have to cancel my appointment and waste very precious time off proving to HIF that I have indeed paid them for the forthcoming two months. Not happy HIF. Just the sort of incident that makes people start shopping around for insurance funds that treat their customers with a little more respect.
Best value my circumstances
I rarely write reviews about things but felt the need to write a positive one about HIF. After being fed up with the lack of value I was getting from BUPA and the increasing restrictions of which health providers I could see, I contacted a third party health insurance reviewer and whilst reluctant to go through the process, I am actually glad the operator found HIF for me.
I have had no issues with HIF since signing up, all my waiting periods were matched and I have received more value from HIF than I would have ever done with my previous...fund. There are rarely any 'preferred' providers which allows me to choose which health professionals I would like to see. I have only ever once had to call customer support and whilst there was a long wait via telephone (I rang late on a Friday afternoon!), I eventually ended up emailing their team and got a prompt response. My disclaimer is that for the specific extras I use and because I do not need extensive hospital cover, I have only good things to say about HIF. Their claiming system is extremely easy and rebates get deposited electronically within a few days. Admittedly the increase in premiums for the upcoming year were a bit steep but I have chosen to prepay for the next few months which saves me some money. Whilst still happy with HIF, I do research regularly as to what other health funds are offering and I am yet to find a better policy for my life circumstances at this point in time.
Excellent Customer Service.
Excellent value, easy to set up, unbeatable Customer Support. Would highly recommend HIF. Was recommended to us by a third party Health Insurance reviewer and moved across after almost 15 yrs with another provider. Claim submitted and paid seamlessly. Customer service second to none (after a considerable wait but first thing consultant did was apologise for the wait). Overall, extremely professional.
Claims Turn Around
I really like HIF and have no complaints about their rebate as i think compared to other funds i get a lot back. However their turn around time for claims is extremely slow, sometimes more than one week which is a bit disappointing. Surely this can be sped up particularly when everything is supplied correctly.
Great Fund that I am happy to recommend!
Since I became a member in March thoughI have nothing but positive things to say about HIF...I submit claims using their app and a week later the refund is in my bank! I have also been very impressed with the amount they reimburse which seems to be significantly higher than other funds. I have been telling everyone I know to make the switch to HIF :)
My Health Fund:HIF
I've been with HIF for about 8 years, and I am extremely happy with them generally, I switched when someone at HBF suggested I change my dentist due to him not being on their scheme!Customer service is friendly and genuine.Have finally installed the HIF phone app and (at age 63 )so pleased to use this rapid refund system.I've had amazing refunds on my Podiatry, not so high on dental but that has increased of late.I will not be switching!I also actually even read the newsletter full of positive news and health tips.Highly recommended.
Excellent dental coverage, decent benefits, good service
I joined up from Medibank due to the price and what they covered with dental benefits.
You can go to ANY dentist (not a preferred dentist) and get the majority paid for by HIF - if your dentist still charges the earth you'll probably have some out of pocket though.
Physio benefits have been average, but I only have medium cover.
They raised my premiums by 15% this year because they are charging different premiums dependent on which state you live in. I got out of this by paying a year up front AND I got an extra 4% discount for paying ...a year in advance. When the time comes to pay another year I'll have another look around as by raising my premiums 15% puts them on pay with many of the other health funds. Whenever I've had to discuss something customer service has always been polite and been able to answer any queries. WAS inexpensive, great dental coverage Now charging premiums per state

Please let me know, what is the incentive reward for getting a family member or friend to switch from Medibank to HIF?
Thanks for your question. It’s our preference to reward our existing members which is why we have our member referral program. If you recommend HIF to family or friends, make sure they mention your name when joining as you'll be rewarded with a $70 eftpos card for each successful referral (and there's no limit to how many you can earn!). Information on our Member Rewards Program can be found on our website if you’re interested in finding out more: www.hif.com.au/members/member-rewards
Peter, if you have any more questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Warm regards, Lisa.
I am currently a member of HIF on Goldstar basic. I suffer from sleep apnea. If I buy a Cpap Machine, can I claim something from the fund? email@example.com. Thank you.
HIF (Health Insurance Fund)
Thanks for your question. We certainly do pay a rebate on CPAP machines however it’s included on our Super or Premium Options Extras Covers (not Hospital cover) within the External Prosthesis / Medical Appliance category. Here's a quick overview of what can be claimed:
One machine can be claimed every 5 years from the previous supply (per person) and the benefit will be deducted from the Prosthesis annual limit of $1,500. The benefits payable are:
$300 for Members who've held Super or Premium Options for 3-5 years.
$600 for Members who've held Super or Premium Options for 5+ years.
It’s important to note though, that a 3-year waiting period would apply for this service should you wish to add Extras cover to your existing hospital cover. I hope this helps, however, if you have any further questions, or would like to speak with one of our Product Experts, feel free to email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can arrange this for you.
Take care, Lisa.
Can I claim for a back support brace from HIF
HIF (Health Insurance Fund)
Hi Tina, thanks for getting in touch. If you’re an HIF Member and hold Super or Premium Options Extras Cover you will be eligible to claim a rebate for a back support brace under your prosthesis benefits. To do so, we’d simply need a letter of recommendation from your treating practitioner (along with your paid invoice) and you’d also need to have served the applicable 12-month waiting period. I hope that helps, but if you have any further queries please don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly. You can reach me on email@example.com. Thanks, Molly.
