Quick service and great product
Very happy so far. Very quick tracked delivery. Was a bit concerned about assembly based on previous reviews but actually it was super easy. It comes assembled as a pedal bike so to use as a balance bike I just had to remove the chain and this took me about ten minutes. I assume they must have changed the design from previous years as there was no hammering or anything tricky at all.
Looks like a good quality product and hopefully should last us a good few years.
great as a balance bike however....
We have used this on several kids as part of a learn to ride clinic and its nicely designed and good ergonomics for learning but is a little heavier than it need be and the seat post is to short.
Pro- has a brake so teaches correct use and prepares kids to ride with knowledge of using brakes as well as feet
Cons -Clunky on the conversion and not the best life as a bike- keeps dropping the chain
Use it as balance bike then move to a real bike forget the conversion kit.
Love the product, love the service
Hip Kids shipped out bikes for my sons super quick - they arrived just in time for my boys 5th birthday. Once they were unpacked, they were pretty easy to assemble as balance bikes. Looks like a great product - but I was super impressed with how quickly the bikes arrived. Thanks so much!
After sales service: fail! classic story of over promise, under delivery
My initial response to receiving the bike was great; looked fantastic and arrived in a relatively short time.
However I have been unable to remove the main bolt to remove the pedal shaft (to convert into a balance bike).
The Allen key is stripping the thread; I stopped before any damage was done but now Kip Kids will offer no support.
My son turns 3 on Sunday and looks like he will have to 'step up' and go straight to learning how to pedal.
Sad, because I bought the bike purely because it could be a balance bike.
I notice another custome...
The handle bar won't lock!!!
Fast delivery.Beautifully made. But it took us 2 hours just to fit the handle bar. Finally we decided to take it apart and put them back together again. Hopefully when we are ready to convert this bike it shouldn't be too bad. After all my son is very happy with this present.
Beautiful bike, can adjust and change to suit your child.
The handle bar wouldn't lock.
Great quality bike. Love the option to covert to pedal bike. Buy it for a 4 year old!
We bought this bike for a tall Miss 3 - 100cm tall and 15kg. The height is OK for her straight away (on lowest settings) but she finds it heavy to steer and manoeuvre around. And it does feel heavy to pick up if you are going for a walk and they don't want to ride anymore (especially if you are also trying to walk a pram and or dog!) We are OK with this as we want her to be able to have the bike for a couple of years and there is plenty of room for her to grow into it. That's what we really liked about this bike (instead of others). But for a 2...year old or average height 3 year old, I would go for a lighter bike. I would recommend this bike to most people buying for a 4 year old. We managed to get the pedals off in about 40mins, but I was frustrated to need hubby's help! And I am dreading having to put them back on. So I agree with previous reviewer - it should come with pedals off as I think most people would buy this as a balance bike first. The instructions were pretty poor..call me old fashioned but I like to have decent printed instructions rather than watch youtube. Overall we are really happy with the bike, we have only had it for a few months but the build appears quality (I'm not a bike expert!) and I expect it to be around for years and handed down to the younger siblings. We bought red - it looks great for a girl with a pretty basket and colourful spoke decorations, but take them off and great for boys too. Miss 3 loves it and has no issue riding without the pedals. Bought from Hip Kids website and bike arrived in about 3 days - very happy with the service. Looks great, appears quality, convertible to pedal bike, unisex colours, air tyres Annoying to remove pedals, a bit heavy for little kids
Fantastic bike but difficult to convert
The bike is gorgeous and the service was great. The bike arrived in a box assembled as a pedal bike which is awesome if you want a pedal bike. It is really time consuming and fiddly to remove the peddles/chain (video on YouTube is misleading). During the process we had to hammer a seat post bolt out thus damaging the thread and paint work (now need to source and buy a new bolt/screw). We also had to take the bike to a bike shop to tighten the handle bars as our Allen keys weren't long enough to gain the leverage required to tighten it all th...e way. The balance bike did the job, now we need to put the pedals back on and my husband and I have spent the last 2 hours trying and still haven't got assembled. Both of us need a break and a stiff drink! We will take it to the bike shop and pay for it to be sorted. By the way we are both bike riders so feel quite beaten that we can't assemble a kids bike. This is a great bike and will fit my daughter for years with the balance to pedal conversion option and changeable seat height but be prepared for 'assembly rage' trying to convert it! Very cute and well made Conversion to/from pedal to balance bike very time consuming and frustrating
