Cannot be relied upon to heat
We live in a FROSTY area of Tasmania, and recently installed a Hitachi to replace our old never-miss-a-beat Daikin, only to find that ANY temperature under 2 degrees and it goes into defrost every 40 to 60 minutes, defrosts for between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the outside temperature, during which time the temperature in our house plummets!!
As it runs 24 hours, we can only assume it goes in and out of defrost all night, lowering the ambient temperature of our house overnight. It is set on 24 for the day, and 20 overnight.
On a really co...ld frosty morning, -1 to -5, with multiple periods of defrost, this heater does not start to heat the house up until about 10:30 in the morning! It even blows cold to cool air into the room when it starts up again. The unit has been thoroughly checked by the technicians at Degrees C and we have been assured it is working as it should- ie in low to sub zero temps it will go into defrost regularly. The only suggestion they could make was that we run it hotter so that when it goes off, the room stays warmer - too bad about our power bills!! Not a good design if you ask me. It makes me wonder how it got past Australian standards for being a heater in a cold climate ?? We were also told the outside unit is very quiet but we don't find it particularly so. I would not want to sleep in the bedroom near where it is installed. Anyway, the long shot is, we're stuck with it. Don't make our mistake.
Purchased in April 2019 for $2,800.00.
My wife and I recently had a Hitachi wall mounted heat pump installed in our lounge room, after many discussions we decided to go for the Hitachi over the Daikin. While both brands apparently come from Japan we couldnt justify the additional $$ when the specs were so close. WELL!, I have to say that we are more that impressed, we live in Tasmania and it has been COLD!!! the Hitachi hasn't missed a beat I would recomend this brand to anyone. Looking at the other reviews from previous years Hitachi obviously improved alot!!
works iin really low temperatures, efficient and affordable
not alot of information availible
