Bottomless money pit.
Had this car for four years. Performed the required services but alas, the problems continued to mount. Two ecu's, two coils packs, brake rotors and pads not lasting, engine overheating and doing the head. Thousands of dollars and mechanics who haven't a clue how to diagnose a problem, I've had enough. The car has gone into limp mode again because it is misfiring. Time for another car.
Don't buy this car !!! Nothing but trouble
I brought a 2000 Holden Astra it did last me only 5 years but during that time every 6 months something would go it cost so much money to fix and most mechanic can never fix the problem it lacked guts very slow take off , the car shook every-time I stopped or it would turn of on hills , then got that fixed other things went wrong the radio would be so loud every time I turned the car on even tho I never turned it up , oil light would stay on even tho there was no oil leaks and always oil in it faulty dash lights!
I would never ever buy this car again nothing but trouble
The only thing I like it just got me from a to b just .
STEER CLEAR OF THIS RUBBISH!
Steer clear of this model of astra as it was the the most terrible car from factory. My father had owned this car for seven years and was driven mainly by my parents, over seven years of proper maintenance it never stopped coming up with problems such as ignition coils, air conditioning, engine failure. The car always been properly driven by mature adults and it just seemed to be a very car. Everytime my father took it to the dealership the cost to fix those things was over $2000 AUD which is completely ridiculous as most mechanics did not want...to deal with this car as they knew it was a lemon when they rolled out from factory doors. Complete Rubbish, i will never ever buy a holden after that altercation. Stick to japanese cars and you wont go wrong. hope this helps anyone looking at these cars ! steer clear of all holdens!
This car is a lemon! Do not own one! Expensive to maintain it will be a constant replacement to all the Astras faults from electronically to michanically. Its not worth owning one.
We have a 2000 city Olympic version with 134k's: what a heap of junk. Air con dead: Engin coils issues: ecu issues and the list goes on: and holden service : worst than ever
Will never buy a holden again: Toyota corolla will be the replacement to have something reliable and durable
I purchased this car two months ago, on the third day of driving my 2002 Holden Astra CD sitting at the set of lights the emission light came on, I pulled into a car-park and when I stopped my traction light came on. I decided to drive it around to test out what was going on, it wouldn't allow me to accelerate faster than 40km/h. After sitting at the side of the road turning off the ignition and starting it up again only the emission light had come on, where I proceeded to try and accelerate the traction light came straight back on again. When ...this was happening the car was chugging and the vibration through the car horrendous! So after 3 days on the tow truck it went, arrived at the Holden dealer where they replaced the computer and coil pack. Picked the vehicle back up and two days later again without fail all the same things happened again! So a mechanic from Holden picked up the car to avoid the towing fee and gave me a courtesy car. I got the car back after 3 days at the workshop replacing the coil they had just placed in with a genuine coil pack this time (which they apparently did the first time). Well, again 1 day later same thing happened again but this time on a Friday night. Saturday morning, drove it up the street to test it and this time only the emission light came on, parked the car up and drove it again 20 minutes later to drive home from a friend’s house where all the lights turned off and it drove perfectly! All weekend it drove fine. I then drove the car on the Tuesday afternoon and the same thing happened again stuck out on the side of the road, this time I arranged the tow truck and it has been in the mechanics coming 3 weeks now. On the second week of them having the car we rang them, we never got a phone call about them receiving the car and never told us on the first week what is wrong with it or how it can be fixed. On that same phone call the mechanic said that he doesn't know what to do but he reckons he was close to fixing it. He said on that exact phone call that he would call later that afternoon, which was 6 days ago and we were still waiting for that phone call and I was still without a car. After the third week had passed onto the fourth; my mum got into contact with the owner dealership and demanded a refund which we have since received a whole refund for. A few days after asking for the refund we got a call from the owner dealership again and he had informed us that the car was fixed after some research he had done himself. He spoke with the mechanic to get it fixed and surprise surprise the car never was fitted with a genuine Holden part once, hence the problem occurring over and over again! Even being told the car has been fixed we didn't want to take this car back with all the problems we experienced with it, we have lost all faith in purchasing another Holden Astra and we are very wary of purchasing Holden itself. Nice to drive when drivable, has a lot of guts, nice steering wheel controls, nice metallic black paint, nice sporty look, neat interior Emission light coming on, traction light coming on, chugging, went through petrol like you wouldn't believe
This was my first Holden car. I will never buy an Astra or Holden again due to this LEMON. I highly recommend others consider these words.
I sold the car the day after the warranty expired due to the engine troubles. The local dealer like us because it gave their service department work. The 5 unsheduled visits plus the 3 sheduled visits meant we saw the service people 8 times in the first 3 years.
Good handling, suspension. Steering very intuitive for effortless drving. Like all small cars it has a small front end which makes it easier tha...
I strongly suggest not buying one unless you feel like burning a hole in you pocket! simply putting it they are the worst cars ever to be made.
I got my astra without realizing that it was coming up to its 120.000 km service. First Big blow. almost 1000 dollars later for all timing belt and driving chain and general servicing. Since then and only 10 thousands Kilometers later, a warning light came on and it was chugging and backfiring really bad. Took it to mechanic.. 700 dollars later apparently coil pack went and needed to be r...
Do not buy an Astra!
I would not recommend this car to anyone! I bought my Astra second hand about 3 years ago (2005 model) and for the first year it was great, nice and roomy and cheap on petrol. For the last 2 years i have been constantly handing out money for repairs and parts. Firstly parts for this car are ridiculously expensive! A new battery set me back $200, the brakes have screwed up twice in the last 9 months costing me a fortune, the rear passenger side window broke recently another $250, the front of the car is basically made out of plastic and seriousl...y low to the ground and completely tore off when I reversed out of a driveway costing a couple of hundred to fix, the radio broke costing $300, the air con also broke a couple of months ago there's another couple of hundred and to top it off mine broke down the other day which I got quoted $1000 to fix. Considering I have regular services every 6 months these kinds of thing really shouldn't be happening to a car that's only a few years old. I'm a student with this car so I really do not recommend this car to any first car buyers or parent's looking to buy there kids their first car because it is a seriously expensive car to take care of. So unless you have a lot of money and don't mind paying for regular services and repairs I would look elsewhere as there are so many better cars on the market! Reasonably cheap on fuel Expensive parts, constant repairs, not built well, parts always seem to break.
Buy a HONDA. Seriously.
Both rear power windows failed within months. They sell taiwan aftermarket rear window regulators on eBay for $50.
(I wonder why ?)
Air con compressor failed
ignition barrel stuck - needed replacement
alternator clutch noisy - needed replacement
coolant thermostat faulty - needed replacement
If you wonder why GM has collopased with 75 billion of debt to be bailed out by us taxpayers there is a good reason.
Solid. Heaps of room. Drives Well.
Owned from new. 2002 TS CD Hatchback. Everything started breaking on if after approx. 70,000 kms.
We love driving our Astra, but would never consider advising anyone to buy one. We are activly advising against purchasing one!
I have got on first name terms with the spare parts guys as I'm there so often! I now ask them what's next and they are usually right on with the next breakdown. If you are considering one of these, don't - look to other manufacturers.
There is a saying in the trade - don't buy any Holden that ends in an "a" - Camira, Astra, Vectra. A friend just hired a 2009 Holden Cruize and it is using the same motor as my 1.8 As...
Happy with the car to begin with, interior fit out pretty well, all the power options like power windows and mirrors are nice to have when they work. Although I don't want to get rid of it, because it still drives well when its not broken down and draining my bank account, I think it's really only a good car when it's new and under warranty.
looks modern/stylish even now 9 yrs old (2001 model), few extra safety features in the CD model with optional traction control/ABS
both rear power window motors replaced, ABS & Traction Control warning ligh...
