Signed up in October 2019, Finance settled in April 2020, it's now almost August 2020. Made three construction payments and we have nothing but a block of land turning back to bush! Very slow and always excuses, Very disappointing. Your hurting our pockets by dragging this out. Literally over it.

Don't choose Homestart!
From the very start this was a disappointing experience. As soon as the deal was confirmed I never heard or saw from my sales person again then started the onslaught of failures from the builder that resulted in me having to pay for a building inspector to check their work.

Terrible after sales service
If you want your after sales service to be reliable or prompt, DON'T use these guys. 10 months for a new EXTERNAL front door. Finally installed 3 weeks ago and now just over 2 weeks for it to be painted with another 10 days to wait???? Aren't external doors supposed to be painted ASAP to avoid excess swelling, etc??? And that's just 1 aspect. Lots and lots of faults at handover some of which, 10 months on, we are still waiting for them to be resolved. Some that seem too hard or too costly to be done. Always an excuse...

Don't build with them. No one should ever have to go through what happened to myself
The salesman was great like I'm sure they all are, they are wanting to make a sale. Once I signed and handed over a deposit everything went downhill at a great rate of knots. Communication proved to be a huge hassle between the office and myself in relation to the house and land package that I purchased. Customer service was not there at all. But there billing department was always there please hand over money ASAP. They had an issue with the bank not paying as they invoiced for services not yet completed and the bank said NO, Fair enough. They...then rang me up stating they are leaving the site today and not going to do anymore more work on then house until this is sorted, they also said they will be charging me interest payments on the overdue amount until this matter is sorted. I tried to contact with the Manager of HOMESTART to no avail. I delivered 2 letters directly to reception address to the manager awaiting a call back. But yet again communication proved to be impossible. Except when they wanted money. We had a lot of small issues with the build itself that the site supervisor sorted out and was actually a decent bloke. 2 days before handover I received a call saying I had to come up with approx $4200 as there was a price increase during construction this was built in the middle of the GFC when prices were coming down. But good old HOMESTART want more money as there prices were increasing. Cut a very long short. I got legal help but BGC drowned me in paperwork and legal paperwork. So I had to pay the money before I got my keys to the house. As I was paying a mortgage from day 1 and they were holding the keys to ransom for the house and wanted there Approx $4200. Upon key handover they handed me a nice giftbasket, I gave it to the girl that was dealing with the key handover and said its yours I don't want anything from BGC. 1 week later after key handover I received a letter saying they were sorry for how things went and gave me a cheque for $500 in an offer of good faith that it won't go any further. Will I hired a legal firm to through the book at them. End of the day this is only a short story of what happened. But no one should ever have to go through what I did. They see first home buyers as a money making machine. There houses are overpriced and poor designs but they are cheap and nasty. Huge staff turnover making communication during the build a nightmare.

Wouldn't recommend, AT ALL
"You'll be living in your home within six months" turned into two years of limbo. We had an AWFUL experience building with HomeStart. We waited 13 months before a slab was poured and had 5 dates come and go for the slab pour before we had anything laid. No valid reason was given, although I chased one. They did try the limp excuse of 'rain' when we'd had no more than a few days of rain in all the time our slab was put off. This felt dishonest and didn't help instill any confidence in the company.
Over the two years there were no updates/comm...unication at all from Homestart unless I called or emailed them for answers. Oh, except from the billing team, they were very good at communicating (and quite friendly/helpful too). A build time of ten months in the end but almost two years from sign up to key hand-over. Once we'd signed up they didn't want to know about us. The gentleman who took us though for the final inspection before key handover was great. He was very helpful and thorough. I wanted to live in our home for a while before submitting a review and I'm pleased to say that our house is okay, no real complaints there, it's just the shambolic service that I take issue with. Our home was completed mid 2014.

had the worst experience.. be carefull
This guys estimated 23,000 site works in byford glades.. they didn't give any proof of estimation or any documents. I told them that my friend had build in gladed and the sitework was just 16k..but they don't have good answer .. so I changed this builder and signed with another builder(i lost my 2000 advance amount) and the same lot site work is only 15.500.. homestarts estimation was $7000 more and they wont give any money back.. (example my friend trapped)
i left this guys due to many other issues such as no doors in shower screen, no doors...

Worst experience ever
As soon as I signed up they didn't give a damn about me. I'm still waiting for defects to be fixed a year later after moving in (and most of the defects I found during inspection and were supposed to be fixed before I moved in but weren't) I lost money in this, and I wish I had have shopped around a little more and gone for a builder like Dale Alcock. When I priced up the hidden costs with Homestart compared to Dale Alcock there was only $5000 difference. Please don't build with Homestart!!!

Worst company i've ever had to deal with.
In the beginning I was told all the things a first home buyer want to hear, later down the track I found this not to be the case at all. Salesman's turn around time was a complete lie, I was told things were no problem, like extending the garage, which was never approved by the council on the basis to much land was covered. Which anyone who is competent in there job should have been able to have seen it would never have been approved as it was noted on the plans, when I enquired about that I was just told it'll be ok. I would make calls which ...were never returned when I made enquiries. The only time I ever heard from them was when there was an issue or they needed an amendment I had to pay for. While on an overseas holiday I received an email advising I have my security screens removed from the property, and that I may not touch the house until it had been signed over, any delays this causes will be at my cost. When I replied saying I haven't done anything to the house and in fact Homestart were supplying and fitting them for me, I was pretty much just told ok well we will sort them if we had fit them. On my first inspection before hand over there were a lot items that needed fixing, went back a week or so later for another inspection, not only had next to nothing been done, there was more items damaged I was told probably by the cleaners. Some of the items that had apparently been seen to like faulty plumbing I could not test as nothing had been reconnected. Even the inspector from Homestart I was there with said coming here was a complete waste of time.Third and what was supposed to be my final inspection again had next to no repairs carried out and further issues made, like scratches and the walls etc After telling the inspector how displeased I was with it all he told me sorry we will get you back in next week. Reluctantly I accepted and shortly before I was supposed to have the 4th inspection I get a call from the inspector saying my supervisor has said we are not going to do another inspection, we will come and fix all your issues a later date. I had no choice but to sign as my lease expired and it was either rent for another 6 months or move in for not surprisingly have never heard from Homestart again. I also had to ask them to get the cleaners to come clean the house at had not been done at the third inspection, I was told it would be a few days, they eventually agreed to clean, when I went back to check it was slightly cleaner, I ended up having to spend a few hours cleaning before anything could be moved in. I brought up my issues multiple items throughout my dealings and Homestart and I never heard back. On signing the hand over agreement I again brought up my issue and still nothing, I was just asked if I would recommend them to which I said no. A year later still no follow ups, the only time I hear from them is when they offer me a reward for referring them to a friend. I would not recommend them to anyone, ever.

The brick work is so shoddy, the walls actually slope , some are simply leaning and in every wall you can see through the wall into the next room. I have been fighting with them to have the wall fixed and now they are pushing for me to release the money for the brickwork. They actually said the place was up to code but that they would fix several of the walls to “straighten” them out but still want to be paid before the work is fixed. A few days ago I found where the metal work and the roof timbers meet and the timbers were actually burnt ,...looks like they have used an oxy to join the steel work and just brunt all around, including the timber and brick work…. I have never seen such shoddy workmanship,,, I have used them for years to build houses for me , they have built me 5 others and it was always good but this time just horrendous. Never ever again !!!!!!!!! Jees just got an email form them stating they were not going to fix anything, although in a earlier one they siad they would ,,,,,,, and yes the same things...... just horrendous dealing with them.
Most Ridiculous Company Ever
Me and my wife decided to start building our first home, we didnt have much clue and went to see Home Start, Showing stars and trying to show that our dreams are fulfilled, we told them our whole story- finances, jobs etc. everything and their broker and everyone were quite positive and helped us in the begining. My wife had to change her job for her better carreer and their whole attitude changed. rather than helping now they were only concerned about keeping their deposit money.
The broker suddenly backed off applying for us for a Home Lo...an and thus Stockland didnt give us our deposit back as well. Everything fell apart in 2 days and they were sitting on their deposit monies... Advice - never go with home start, highly unprofessional and have a bad attitude of making money.
At first homestart were a wonderful company always ontop of the ball game continuously calling and making sure we were all good and ready to go but as soon as the contract was signed and deposit paid all hell broke loose.
Almost 5 months had gone by without a single word from anyone, no broker, consultant nothing! Then out of pure luck we met a couple that had been through homestart prior and begged us to reconsider and try our hardest to retreat. After informing them that we wanted to cancel our contract it was war, we were told that bot...h our $1200 deposit with homestart and our deposit on our land would be lost along with anywhere between $5000 - $9000 would be owed by us to them to pay for any site work which had been done. This was a load of crap because finance hadn't been approved and we knew for a fact nothing had even been touched on the property. After constant bickering, emailing and phone calling we finally got in contact with the consultants manager who after we informed her on our situation was appauled and decided to look at our situation. To our disgust we found out that nothing had been recorded, no contract, phone calls, meetings, emails not a single scrap of information. Meaning that our consultant was going to take our money and go, leaving us with no written agreement on their half to prove anything. Lucky we managed to catch it when we did and we were able to ring the settlement agency and get our land deposit back and hopefully soon our $1200 back just as a sign of good faith to keep our mouths shut which definitely will not be happening! So I beg to other young and oblivious first home buyers take someone with you of which has purchased houses before, question them before signing a single thing and avoid the devils at homestart!!! Expensive, terrible contract, terrible communication, fraud, poor moral ethics
worst experience - never again
The first part of signing up went smoothly, constant communication, structural changes that made sense.
after we signed up and got out first planned confirmed it all went down hill!
when I call for updates they take my name and number and promise a phone call back, I called every day one week and got no call or email back!
when I email it takes them over a week to reply! they never email me about construction updates or what's happening or if there is a delay!and are just rude when they do reply!
our settlement was in September and they ...
Never Ending Troubles
Since moving into my new house and my last review, the entire plumbing system has blocked up twice, the garage door broke, the fibre optic cable was damaged during installation of soak well pipes and the hot water unit had to be replaced ( they attempted to fix it twice) no hot water for 4 days!!!!
I guess 15 months of hell during the building process just isn't enough. What next Homestart?
Homestart run and hide
Take your money, no customer service, cost fortune to change anything, been through three people looking after my file, six sets final plans due to staff incompetence and laziness. Last person through paperwork in bin and them left because got to hard. Asked to get out contract but was told we will be sewed and haven't even got slab down yet
Everything never use them
Stay away from this very very bad builder!!!!!!
Well were should I start? we are currently in the process of building with Home Start and our experience so far is absolutely terrible. The tiling is all uneven and not square( I have photos of this) I have been told that it has been fixed, but this isn't the case. We have a water leak at the rear of the house Inside!! When the supervisor told me it had been fixed, I asked what was wrong and his response was they don't tell me they just fix it!!! This is very unacceptable an dodgy!!
The kitchen doesn't square up to the floor, supervisor do...esn't give a Sh%$. There is plaster all over the cornices and the paint in the corners isn't finished correctly. The facia on the side of the Garage isn't fitted properly and the gutters are all bent due the roof tiler (I'm Assuming) Slipping on the roof and bending them. I called the so called customer liaison officer regarding the incorrect pavers being delivered 3 weeks ago and to my surprise they were still laid at the rear of the home and I was told after they were laid that they were a different shade and challenged me, I had to go to the trouble of going to Brick Makers to get a sample of the correct colour paver and was still challenged, the docket even stated the incorrect colour. I also received and email update from her stating that the electrical work and the plumbing should now be completed and we are about 4 weeks away from completion and 6 weeks away from moving in, this wasn't the case as the electrics and plumbing hadn't even been started to be completed. The supervisor (I think has had enough of me complaining) has told me that he will fix all the work that I have complained about and not to worry, I think worrying is an understatement!!! I have stated all along I'm not in a hurry to move in an that I just want the house to be completed to a satisfactory and acceptable standard which it isn't at this time(far from it)
Do not use them as your builder. First home buyer stay away for sure!
Stay away from them. I don't even know where to start. They definately built their home really quickly .... but the outcome is extremely poor.
There was a lack of supervision during the building which is highligted by lots of mistakes and poor finishes. My front door is not even straight, built my house too close to the fence and refused to cut it till I tell them I've spoken to the Building commissioner.
They dont have many design, well in fact they only have one...!! As when I meet them in the head office, all they offer me is onedes...ign .. " this is wht you can afford" I really shouldve gone with other builders. You have to pay so much more for their basic design. Walls are poorly plastered...... just pure nightmare. Just read through all the others reviews and my comments below it. Client liason officer I have is very helpful very poor quality, pushy salesman, rude account staff, poor communication, expensive for their basic product
Received a very long, rude and sarcastic email after meeting with them for the first time because they found out we had also met with one other builder before them. Very un professional, and this was after the first meeting so that put me off of using them completly. Seemed more interested in telling me about how I can make money by recommending others to them, which I may have if they'd have given me something to recommend.
rude, sarcastic, un professional.
Avoid them like the plague. They threaten and intimidate their customers and they are very pushy. Their plans are very basic and you have to pay alot of extra money to get your house specced up.
Pushy, bullies. When I tried to cancel after I had found a better builder thry started to become nasty and threatening. They threatened to charge me thousands for work they never had done as I had not signed any contract. I paid them $750 for PPA and told them to keep it and put it where the sun dont shine.
My partner and I had our initial meeting with HomeStart at there head office.
Once we arrived the sales rep had a house design set out on some land and this is what we where shown and this is what we where told we could afford.
Our sales rep rushed us into meeting him a couple of days later at the block, we loved the size but where a little unsure of the area how ever we where told if we didn’t sign up that day it would be gone. We stupidly signed up and paid our $750.00 deposit.
A couple of days later my partner and I decided it would be a ...
Pathetic Company, should be called HomeStop
They are slow, they cant built straight or level walls and doors, their management is unprofessional.
They stole the copyright to my building plans which I designed and paid for independent of HomeStop. They won't release the copyright of my design and wont reply to my attempts to communicate with their General Manager.
One would think they would be happy that they won the contract to build not one, but two investment properties, but NO, they want to copyright my Intellectual Property also.
Stay clear of this company
Questions & Answers

Can I get the email and contact number of home start to lodge a request/complaint .
Sue is actually one of our Sales Consultants and won't be able to assist with your query. Please email email@example.com so we can address your query.
If you have had a home start loan in joint names 30 years ago can you reapply as a single after being divorced for 28 years?
We build new homes for our clients. Are you perhaps referring to Homestart in South Australia who provide loans to people or perhaps Keystart here in WA?
