Easy to manoeuvre
Durable build quality
Prone to clogging
I'm there with the angry people who bought this mower, never used the catcher since day one, i just zip tied 3/4 open that lid, the clogging is insane, wet or dry makes no difference, and i mow dry 99% of time , i just tape the brake cause when using cause its super annoying.
This thing gets abused beyond ridiculous, i mean i made a huge pile of branches from a tree i trimmed , put it on top of the pile and eventually it disappeared, was impressed .

Purchased in September 2014 at Mower place Browns plains for $739.00.
Carburetor plays up after about 3 years
First 3 years were great
After that the mower began to die after 20 mins of mowing
Took it to an experienced mower place, they said you need a new Carburetor that cost 3/4 of the price of a new mower! Even they recommended buying a new mower and not wasting money on it (they were not trying to sell me a new mower either)
It wasn't fuel or the spark plugs etc
The mower still starts first or second pull but it will not rev to a high speed and recently has started seeking before just dying, rendering it useless
I paid a lot of money for this Honda, I expected to get 8+ years out of it, to get just over 3 has left me with an aversion to buying Honda again...I'm now looking at a Makita battery mower, which cost more but I bet I get more than 3 years out of it before running into trouble
Purchased for $799.00.
What A doosy
Wont pick up the Cut Grass.
Get used to it. Had my HRU 19 for a number years. Wont load the catcher consisitantly. Basically leaves 80% of cuttings on your lawn. Done the blades cleaned the catcher many times. These are just the poorest design I have ever seen especially being regarded as a good brand. Easy to start just buy a few rakes for your entire family at the same time. The Motor does seem slightly under powered just able to cut a medium to low lawn. Very quiet.
I'll stick with the previous brand and retire this to the farm for small trimmings where the cuttings can stay on the lawn. Honda should have got onto this before releasing these mowers.
Purchased in January 2016 for $950.00.
piece of crap
Not happy at all, very big fan of mowing lawns, long story short, brother bought me a lawn mower from "Masters" couple years back for my birthday at first i wasnt overly excited knowing that it was cheap and never heard of the brand name before but still i was thankful, used it for about two years now never ever had a problem with it whatsoeverr, runs beautifully.. only cause im such a stubborn person i thought to myself i still need to get a "Honda" mower it wouldnt be right if i didnt, from hearing everyone talk about how reliable and "nothin...g beats honda" oh how i was so wrong about that! made my first purchase yesterday 18:04:18 couldnt wait to try it out once i got home.. ill tell you.. ive never ever been so dissapointed in my entire life.. not only am i an apprentice carpenter im lucky to make about $600 a week.. i pretty much spent a week and two days worth of work to buy this piece of crap mower. Clogs up within 5 minutes of using it, no words can explain how dissapointed i am, very expensive mower for such terrible design. #DONOTBUY
Can never start it!
This is supposed to be an "easy start" which is why I purchased it but I can just never ever start it. I use fresh petrol, etc. Been like this since day 1. Obviously took it back, but somehow they could start it in front of me, but I never could.
Bought mower based on Honda reputation for quality.
It has been a lemon since day 1!
I have used this mower for 5-6 hours and it has been back to the dealer 3 times for poor starting No starting.
Parts replaced come home and after 1 hour it will not restart. So back to dealer this week again!!!
SO out comes my Dad's old 35 year old Scott Bonner mower. This mower takes 2-3 pulls off she goes and mows.
Bottom line is. Easy Start as promoted by Honda is a joke!!!!
Not bad, but a few flaws
After owning a number of cheaper mowers over the years, I was after something that was a quality product since we have a larger yard to mow now. So I went to a specialist Honda dealer and spent what these days is big bucks for a mower. I have found that it isn't really worth it. The good part - it starts first time every time. The bad part - the catcher clogs up and the dealer had to install another two blades and increase the revs to fix it. Also, there is a piece of metal sticking out from the handle (safety grip) which constantly hits a...nd bruises my legs. In summary, the engine is great quality but the rest of the mower (catcher, shute, handle) is poor quality. If I had my time again, I'd just get a less expensive mower from Bunnings. Disappointing that the Honda quality isn't there any more.
Doesn't live up to the Honda Hype
After purchasing a Honda 4 stroke trimmer and being impressed with it, I purchased a Honda Mulch n Catch to replace my aging and rusty Victa Hawk. For an alloy base Mower it is very heavy, both to lift and transport, and to manoeuvre. The blade brake is frustrating to the point of me clamping it on and the lack of any sort of throttle nothing short of ridiculous. The chute is simply too small and clogs easily whether the grass is wet or dry, constantly stopping the Mower to empty the catcher and clear the chute makes an hour job take nearly do...uble. I've since sold it on Gumtree and replaced it with a classic Victa Pace. Half the cost and legendary Victa reliability. However Honda do make the best engines in the business, it's a real shame they have over complicated what could be a magic machine.

Rubbish mower great engine
Bought a Honda lawn mower two weeks ago due to having Honda brushcutter and blower which are excellent. Well I have never been so disappointed with a mower or the shop that sold it (mower place capalaba but stay clear of franschises). Spent $700 on this mower and should of just bought a victa from bunnings as the one I was using to previously was so much better.
After reading reviews about grass clogging issues I went to 'the mower place' in capalaba to get their opinion. My dad has been dealing with them for a while so I thought they were ...trustworthy. He advises the grass clogging issue in the Hondas only happen in wet grass. Well it's been a heat wave in Brisbane with no rain for two weeks. Mowed twice and both time the catcher schute clogs up. Went back to mower shop and saw the same salesman. The only support he could offer was spray WD40 down the schute. I just spent $700 on a mower that is meant to work, not lubricate the schute everytime I mow! I wasn't really happy with this answer and he just said he only sells them and repairs them. I would of thought they would have a rep from Honda that could be contacted when a customer Needs support. It's obviously a common problem as its all over this page. All I can suggest is stay away from these Honda mowers and 'the mower shop' so you don't get burnt like me. I'll be taking the problem up with Honda to try and get a solution.
Waste of time and money
The mower has potential to cut the grass if only it worked. It starts easy then after 5 minutes starts surging then just stops. You then have to leave it an hour or more before you can start it again. Have taken it back to service people 5 times already. They can't find a problem. I think the mower is just faulty and should be recalled. I want my money back. We spent a lot of money on this mower so I would have an easy job of mowing the lawn. All I have is trouble.
Add me to the long list of owners who hate this mower. I bought mine a couple of years ago and have regretted it ever since.
The chute continually clogs if the grass is the slightest bit damp. It takes me twice as long to cut the lawn because I'm forever having to remove the catcher to unblock the chute. The mower doesn't start easily, on average at least 6 pulls. It has now developed a problem where the engine won't shut off, I'm guessing the throttle cable has slipped and needs adjustment. The mower has only seen around 25 hours use so it's hardly broken in. My old $400 Victa 4 stroke walks all over this mower for ease of use and reliability. I won't be buying a Honda again.
Not explained and not practical for everyday use
Hi, I purchased a Honda HRU19K1 (mbau-1031182) last Saturday morning 2/7/2016 from a dealer in QLD.
I had a conversation with the sales person and asked for a mower which was push style with a Honda Motor or a Honda. He pointed me to this mower and I asked him what the lever on the handle was. He told me it was a break. I thought this was a good idea.
Once at home I was keen to try it out. I had a look through the owners manual to check how to start the mower and could not follow the instructions . Chapter 6 only mentioned that when the dr...
Not like they used to make them!
Some 6 years ago I purchased a new buffalo after the old one finally packed it in after getting a good 20 years out of it. I've just returned it to the local dealer after experiencing some serious issues - not sure if I'll be a honda person any more!
Having had the old HRU194 for 20 years in great working order I was excited to upgrade/downgrade to the new hru19k1. Well having spent one summer with it I could not be more disappointed. This would be a fantastic mower to idle on a concrete slab and that's about it. Unless I can find the time to mow every third day (and I might ad I'm mowing couch so growth is not substantial) the chute system is incapable of performing the task that we pay good money for it do. It blocks up repeatedly if the lawn is the slightest bit dewy with major feed issu...es. I would think it a wise move to get back to the idle control too as the mower only really tries to work after it's too late and a blockage has begun. You have to ask whether or not anybody tried these machines before they hit the shelf or just assumed the name would get them by. As a loyal person I will recommend anyone who asks not to spend their hard earned on such an incompetent piece of scrap.
Dont bother keep looking
I purchased this mower after my old 2 stoke Victa Mustang became too smokey to use. I have been very disappointed with this mower as it doesnt feed the grass into the catcher very well. If the grass is slightly damp the grass blocks up the shute to the catcher. There is an obvious desigh flaw with this mower. This aside the mower is heavy to push and has no throttle control. This mower should be recalled. I will be taking it backto Ongamac in Lismore and they can sort out the refund with Honda. Will never buy Honda mower again.
Questions & Answers
Am using this mower for the first time What do I need to do to start the motor?
Turn the fuel flow on, if it isn't already on, push the throttle all the way forward as far as you can (this activates the choke) then pull the cord. Once the engine fires pull the throttle back midway and let it idle and warm up. I never turn my fuel off and the mower starts 1st pull 98% of the time and always on the 2nd pull if it didn't start 1st pull.
On my mower, turn fuel on (I also always leave mine on), hold the engine brake lever on the handle in, and pull the starter.
