2006 CRV Sport
Purchased a Month ago, awesome little run about, great for trips to the beach,camping etc. Mine has 160k on the clock and full service history. The previous owner had the Bellhousing (gearbox mech) replaced at 100k due to it shuttered when taking off hard. It still slightly shutters now but not an issue. Easy to maintain, good features for its age and value for money. Would recommend anyone to buy one. Slightly noisy on a trip but all depends on the tyres.

Great car for everyday use.
Recently acquired this as a second car mostly to commute to work and back. even though it had 280,000km, it was in mint condition. I am a previous Honda owner so I was able to check the common problems and was impressed. The car drives like a dream. Everything about this car was designed for everyday use, Leg room, boot space & even fuel consumption. This also has a picnic table built as the boot floor board for the backpacker out there!. Love this car. As long as you look after the car and service on time, the car will not give any problems.
Do not buy this car
SO this needs a lot of work doing to it.
Tyres are expensive on it, the fuel pump needs replacing and also the breaks, gear box and also spark plugs.
Does not cope with driving to and from FSH to alkimos everyday.
Would not recommend this car at all, do not buy it!

Great car,i have a 2004 CR-V which has just clicked on 280,000km.
No problems.The key is maintenance.The diffs,& gearbox need to be serviced with genuine honda oil only,or you will end up with problems,especially the rear diff as non genuine oil ends up causing shuddering when accelerating.It only costs about $17 for a litre from Honda,so it's not expensive.
Regular oil changes are also important.
Great on fuel,averages about 9 litres to 100 on the freeway,& around 11 litres in the city,
Ensure you buy one with a complete service history,that's the key,& you will have a great car.
Great first car
Great performance and very smooth to drive. The interior has ample leg room. Wish the colour scheme was darker. I've had this car for 8 years and haven't had any issues with it yet, just the basic servicing a few times a year. I like that this car looks like a 4wd, nice size, ample boot, good height. No complaints!
Best car I've ever owned
This car is 11 years old now and it is still the best car I have ever owned. I've had Audi's, BMW's, VW's and 3 Hondas. All the hondas have been great, but this one is amazing. I have done 50,000ks in the last 3 years and it has been used and abused like nothing else. It's moved house, towed things it shouldn't, had oversize items strapped on the roof, loads of dirty bikes (4 is the record so far)... It has taken every bit of abuse with ease. Everything still works. It drives very well (apart from the very occasional diff shudder) and has cost ...nothing except for a set of tyres and headlight bulbs. It's comfy - have driven it to Melbourne (9 hours) and got out feeling fine at the other end. The back seats are average for an adult - but they recline so they are great for kids. My daughter is 5 and her booster seat reclines with the seat - she still sleeps for an hour or two at a time in it, with no problems! It's quiet - with the right tyres. It had Bridgestone Duellers when I got and the noise was terrible. Kumho KH17's I replaced them with were quiet, good in all conditions and lasted 50'000 ks. Have just fitted Kumho KH27's and they are good too. It also drives like a normal car. Round town it is great. Tried a V6 Hyundai when buying this and it felt like a tank in comparison. With the seats down, the back is HUGE. Like a tardis - I once collected a dishwasher, rangehodd, oven, cooktop and some other random stuff from GoodGuys and got all of it in the car, one load.

This car is so reliable. Still going so well even after all these years. Never had any major problems. My car is great to drive and I hope to have it for a few more years to come. My next car I buy will buy will likely be the same.
Was glad to get rid of this car
Bought my 2005 CRV sport auto model 3 years ago as the 2nd owner, it was a good reliable car overall but it did have a few issues before I sold it - ended up spending lots of $$ to fix issues before selling onto the next person. Had to replace the starter motor which set me back $500 and the transmission had to be flushed - when I was driving the engine would shudder, shaking the whole car, which happens if the transmission fluid is old - something I didn't know had to be done, neither did my incompetent mechanic at MIDAS...! the engine was quite loud/not a quiet drive experience. Did well on freeways but used up a lot of petrol - $60 per week I was spending just on petrol. Boot space was its main advantage.
excessive fuel use
fuel use 14.5 per 100 km around town, a bit excessive, on our 3rd air conditioning compressor.the car has been ok except for the items listed, we will be looking at other options for our next purchase, air conditioning compressor should have been re called by honda, check out all the complaints on google.
One of the best cars I've had
I've only just recently parted with my Honda CRV. It was quite a reliable car while I had it. The only thing that marked it down for me was the rear diff noise that occurred a few times during ownership, twice under warranty. A known fault with this model. I also found it had average fuel economy in comparison to other cars I've owned. On the plus side, I was quite impressed to find the entire time I owned it I never needed to replace the brakes having done over 110,000km. Same can't be said for a few Holden's I've owned. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Honda in the future based on this experience.
Loved the 2005 luxury sports model
I bought this luxury sports 2005 model second hand in 2008 with 50,000km on the clock, it was absolutely perfect.
Never any issues with anything.
Sold it in early 2011 because I moved overseas for work, would never have sold it otherwise.
It kept its value well because we services it.
But the services were very cheap, so it really was a very good buy.
Good solid vehicle
Bought this vehicle because wanted an economical family car. Was the best on the market after testing other brands. Has a good size boot and picnic table has come in useful. Has been good on petrol and has enough power to make driving a pleasure. Interior finish is good and ride height gives good vision while driving.
Since sold the CR-V and bought a Mitsubishi Outlander and are also very happy with this. Its a bit cheaper to service.
The CR-V has been a good vehicle thus far and has met all the requirements we were looking for. If you are looking for a reliable, stylish, comfortable, well thought out designed vehicle you could do a lot worse than buying a Honda CR-V.
Great for the first few years
I purchased my car late 2005. I have regularly had it serviced, but since 2007 it had developed a shudder whenever I turned the wheel to do a u-turn, etc. I was told it was the slip oil and it had to be replaced. Honda wouldn't help me but told me to go to my usual mechanic. I did and it seemed to work for a while. But the turn shudder isn't too bad these days, however, when I'm accelerating I get a shuddering through the whole car. I was told it was the wheels by my old mechanic and by Honda. I went to my new mechanic and was told that the ...oil hadn't been changed in the regular service relevant to the 'age' of the car as opposed to the kilometres I had done (which was low). My car now annoys the [censored word removed] out of me with a gentle shudder at random times travelling on a highway or even at times when I accelerate turning into a new street (not from a standstill). Although the auto gear changes are absolutely feantastic - not jumpy like the RAV Toyota - and the seats are very comfy and serviceable, I wouldn't buy a second hand Honda CRV just because I know there's problems with the 4WD component if there's this much shuddering. But the car is very reliable otherwise so it depends what you want it for. Auto gear change very smooth. Fuel efficient. Durable. Shuddering when turning from oil issues Honda relevant
Excellent reliable vehicle
Had my 2005 CRV from new and it now has 206,000 km. Never broke down. Original components of this Japan built car were quality items. First set of tyres got 65,000 k.m. Wiper blades lasted 6 years. Light globes lasted over 6 years. All rubber belts are still going. Had issues that were difficult to sort - mainly clunky shudders. I had suspected the diff as in year 1 it shuddered and the dealer said the diff oil was "off" and replaced it for free and the problem went away. I always replace diff oil before the schedule service requirement but clu...nky shudders returned. A proper transmission fluid flush fixed that. Beware oil change is not enough. Previous mechanics changed my oil without a flush and without asking me if I wanted one. Good mechanics know this needs to be done properly. Road noise was another issue that annoyed me. Took many sets of tyres before I finally settled on Pirrelli Verdi All Seasons. Not cheap tyres but now I can hear the radio and enjoy driving. Overall I've enjoyed the legendary reliability and hope to get a few more years out of this solid performer.
Great car if auto is looked after properly
Bought this car recently 155,000 kms . It had the shudder as mentioned on other reviews, we took it to Honda Lismore and had transmission flushed twice with Honda fluid and problem gone. This needs to be done regularly about 30/40,000 ks apparently. Every thing else with the car is great. Glad I read these reviews as would have thought the problem was with drive shafts or cv joints for sure
Adore my Honda CR-V Sports 2006 - especially now that the shudder is sorted !
I bought a 2nd hand Honda CRV Sports (had done 140,000 kms) & discovered a slight "shudder" at certain revs. It wasn't the tyres, nor a balancing problem, we replaced worn drive shafts, tightened frames & bolts, replaced brake pads, compliance bushes, had the transmission flushed ... but did you know a routine flush only does one side of the transmission?! After 9 months of investigating & tearing our hair out, my brilliant Honda team (Lismore) found out about a rare problem which requires flushing of BOTH sides of the transmission! Thought I w...as going to be up for a new transmission (for $4-5,000!), but it only cost me $200 !!! I adore this car - powerful, sooooo comfortable, clever thoughtful design features. I've had it a year and I still love getting into it to drive it. I do alot of km's (37,000 this year) - this is one solid, spacious, clever car! She flies!
I have never had a problem with this car! It's very roomy, runs well, looks stylish and easy to drive. A bit of a fuel guzzler around town but great on highway driving. Love the interior and the moveable middle console. I feel safe and confident driving this car and would recommend it to anyone!

Honda 2003 CRV
I bought a 2003 Honda CRV when it had 50,000km. Currently it is on 220,000. I live on the Central Coast and drive every day to Sydney for work. I have not had one problem . Actually, I had an auto electrician install central locking and the drivers door doesn't work all the time, but that's it! My car is a manual, and I heard from a mechanic mate that the automatic transmission in the CRV is a major problem. The manual transmission is A1, never had an issue. I get good all round reviews from various people in the auto industry about these cars....Any Japanese car for that matter. The services are cheap too. A typical service is about $110.00 The fuel light does come on early. The car can do an extra 90km from when the light comes on. I love how you can open the back window within the rear door, great for long surfboards or long objects. I have read reviews of these manual cars in earlier models doing close to a million km, and that was for the 2.0L model. The 2002 onward is 2.4L VTi. A much better motor. It is a 50L tank that does about 700km. Not bad for an older Japanese car. I will be selling mine soon as I need a ute for work, I only wish honda made utes!! I bought this car three years ago [ its a 2002 model] with 150,000 on the clock , since then I have put a further 35,000 km on it , it gets its regular servicing and I have not even had to change a lightbulb
it has been taken off road a few times and performed reasonably well - its an ALLroader not an OFFroader , great luggage space , surprisingly good performance for an auto - LOVE IT

Shudder in 2006 CRV Auto
My Honda developed a shudder at about 85,000km at certain speeds. I asked them to look it at 90K service, and they told me that they recommended me to replace the torque converter, This would cost $1,900, money I did not have. I kept driving it with the shudder till 100,000km but noticed when I went away and left the car standing for 10 days, the shudder went away. I then did some research and found that this shuddering was a very common problem with CRV's, paticularly of this vintage. Apparently comes from degrading of the clutch material a...ffecting Torque converter and eventually causing transmission failure. To prevent this from happening, you simply have flush out the Honda Auto Transmission fluid every 30,000km instead of every 120,000km. Yes. Its more expensive to do this, but it avoids the contamination in the oil doing damage. If you wait too long, then you may need a new torque converter or Transmission. I have asked them today to flush out the Transmission Fluid and replace 2 times to get rid of contaminants. I am hoping this will remove the shudder, but it may be too late. These problems should not be occurring in a quality vehicle and this is a design and service flaw that Honda is quite happy to keep quiet about. I therefore have decided not to buy Honda again. Will be looking at Mazda or Subaru next time. Early in life reliable, good build quality, lots of room( particulary in Cargo area) Not fuel efficeint, Auto transmission problems very early in its life, higher maintenance cost before 10 yrs
