HRU195 Honda Long Term Review
Bought this mower in 1999 to replace an old 19" Honda self propelled mower. Opted for no self propelling feature with this one because of the 1/4 acre flat block it would be mowing.
The mower has always started with one or two pulls when cold, and one pull when hot. It has good power for all but the thickest and toughest buffalo ( hitting a patch makes it grunt a bit ), but that's probably my fault for not mowing often enough when necessary. Fuel economy with this mower has been outstanding. The 1.1 Lt tank managing a rear yard, front yard and...
We have the Honda Buffalo HRU195 PU, which is almost identical but a few years older. This is the best mower that I have ever owned. We have a large block and on a corner, and in summer we mow every two weeks. Have owned this mower for 11 years now and it has not missed a single beat. Starts first time, every time, unlike my previous Rover with the Briggs & Stratton engine. I can mow our entire yard, including 75 metres of footpath, and have a small amount of petrol still left in the tank. My old Rover would run out of petrol after doing ...3/4 of the yard, and before doing the footpaths! The Rover also was hard to start once it was hot, not the Honda. I was so impressed with the mower, that I bought a Honda whipper-snipper. Same story, starts every time & great on fuel. We have not had a single problem with either the Honda mower or snipper. You will pay a bit more for the Honda, but it is money well spent. Even the commercial mower operators use Hondas, because they don't stop working. Those guys can't afford to have their mowers breaking down all the time. Would happily recommend Honda mowers to anyone. Starts first time, every time. Great 4 stroke engine, excellent fuel consumption, good power. Easy to do your own oil changes. Large wheels (great on uneven lawns). Faultless operation over 11 years. Alloy deck. Spark plug easy to get to. Handle needs to be higher or redesigned for taller people (I am 6 foot 3). Still quite usable though, even at my height. Now and then the wheel caps will pop off. Nothing else, excellent mower.
