Perfect Mower for my type of usage I am very happy with this mower and I think it is worth the money
I am very happy with this mower I use this machine to mow my big steep hills and cutting height lever does not drop at all and I use it alot in the Hills before I purchased this mower I had a John Deere JS38 self propelled mower and that machine was a piece of junk I stripped it down completely this John Deere mower used to constantly drop the set cutting height and that drove me so crazy and I have had enough of that John Deere JS38 Self Propelled mower and I upgraded to a Honda HRU216M3 Buffalo Pro with 21 inch cut and 3 speed gearbox and 4 b...lades and this Honda HRU216 has never let me down and has 4 swing back blades and it just goes one pull every time I Highly Recommend to anyone one thing I forgot to mention was I have installed a Hour Meter on my Honda self propelled mower to keep a schedule of my services and the meter works very well and has never let me down and is also easy to install Thanks Juan

Very Happy Customer
Bought this lawnmower 2 weeks ago and i am really impressed, it cuts the grass super fine and holds sooooo much in the catcher. Our lawns are looking perfectly cut and my husband likes that it has a range of gears and the self propelled option drives nicely. definitely worth your money, we bought this from mower world and received perfect customer service!
My Mowers better than yours
One thing I love to own is a great lawn mower.
Can’t go past Honda mine is not for commercial use this is my second only due to moving states and couldn’t take my other one. Starts first time every time I have it serviced regularly and love how it’s self mulching as I can’t lift the catcher so I don’t use it. This one’s going to outlast me I think. The only downside for me was price $1600 is pretty overwhelming but one the other hand it’s there for the long haul.
One of the best things I own
This works a treat after 5 years and I expect it will keep going that way for another 5 at least. I purchased to mow our 1/2 acre block that has some sloping parts and it does it with ease. At first it seemed a bit heavy and clunky to use but it a short time I figured out when and how to use the self propelling feature to my advantage. I have it serviced once a year but it could easily be done by someone at home who has the time and inclination to do it. I have since purchased a small ride on to cut the mowing time down even more but there are still some areas that the Honda can only do so I cannot part with it.
Great self-propelling mower
Great mower especially the self-propelling part for our steep block. Easy to use and once the initial throttle cable hiccup was sorted it starts on the first pull. Nice big catcher and great mulching function. On the heavy side weight wise but. Very solid build so it should last well.
Heavy going without being too heavy this is fantastic to work with. Such an easy to use marvel that I'm mowing the lawns of less fortunate neighbours because it's just made so easy! Very easy to start and maintain, well worth the cost even on a pretty small surburban block.
I bought this mower (a 2015 model) off a homeowner to replace my HRX217HYU recently. I have had a while to use it but not a lot of time, though I am happy I can give a good review on it now. Firstly it has a huge amount of power, but this was improved by moving the governor spring down 2 notches which let the engine rev harder. It is very slow compared to the HRX217 even on the fastest gear, but it is still a good walking pace which is nice. The blade brake is great because it means I can transport the mower between neighbouring houses without ...the blades running. The 70L catcher is a little smaller than the 88L HRX one but I am not too worried about that as I mulch most of my yards. the GXV160 with a 1.5L fuel tank is fantastic although as mentioned before it does perform better with the revs increased. One thing to be wary of is that it is very heavy (around 57KG) but it is self-propelled so it doesn't really matter that much and the deck is solid aluminium so it doesn't rust and is very strong. Overall a fantastic contractor's mower for a reasonable price.

Domestic Use on a large lawn
I had been using a Honda HRU194 push mower for about the last 25 years and it still starts first go.. I'm getting older so I decided to get a self propelled mower. I also have a ride-on but don't like the way it cuts. I enjoy mowing and look after my lawns so spending around $1700 was okay for me. The mower has the 160cc engine which starts first time and is equipped with a lever which controls the spinning of the blades and another which propels it. Once you get used to it, its a good set up. The blade control has a safety interlock so j...ust moving the lever will not engage the blades which is a great safety addition. It is a very heavy mower so maneuvering it can be heavy work on the turns or around tight spaces where you cannot use the self propel feature. I have read that it is advisable to move the mower forward a little before engaging the self propel lever or early clutch wear will result. The mower is also equipped with three forward gears from fairly slow to a quick pace. I don't mow when the lawn is wet so I cannot comment on grass pickup on a wet lawn but on a dry lawn, pickup is excellent. The mower is heavy so it does leave wheel marks on the Queensland Couch lawn but not enough to concern me. The height adjuster is a little heavy to use. I've already changed the engine oil which was a quick and easy job. As the mower is heavy, it is more suited to those who have a bit of muscle. I could not recommend it for a frail user or the average woman or those with lawns with tight areas. It's a 21 inch cut compared to my previous mower which was only 19 inch. Certainly heavy duty. Overall, I am really happy with it.
Mighty good mower cuts really well, Just a bit heavy!
Bit hard to turn for a old bloke of 74!
Very easy to start and run, Starts first time every time..
Easy to maintain
Love it. supplied by Mowers Galore and they have serviced it once and I would recommend this model and the service center to each and eryone
I've got two of these and they cop a fair amount of abuse. They start first pull every time and they aren't too noisy. I live in a hilly area and none of my clients live on flat ground, so having a self propelled machine is a must. One mower has over 800 hours on it and never had any mechanical issues. A couple of small annoyances are they don't rev out hard enough when delivered from the dealer, but that's an easy fix. The throttle lever seems to catch on low branches resulting in it almost shutting down (minor thing). Keep you blade in good condition and you'll never have an issue
Love my Hondas
The Rolls Royce of Self Propelled
It is now July 2016...
Almost time to replace my 2nd HRU216 mower.
IMHO Honda's are the Rolls Royce of push mowers. Definitely worth the price. Average usage = 4-6 hours/day, 5 days/ week, 8 months/year since purchasing in 2011...A total of between 640-960 work hours/year for the last 5 years. The Blade Brake is an absolute must for any serious lawn mower. This feature means the machine can be operated, safely, on any surface and lets it double as a carrier for full grass bags from site to vehicle. The 4 blade system (2 low lift/2 high lift)...
I've had my mower for twelve months.
I will often do between five and 10 lawns per day in summer … This mower is fantastic. As someone mentioned before, a friend of mine who does hundreds of lawns told me to push off before engaging the clutch always, and you can potentially add a couple of years life to your gearbox.
Awesome Lawn mower gives excellent results
Wonderful mower. Self-propelled, blade brake, and massive catcher. I have a 10 year old one I use a lot. Doing around 200 to 300 lawns a year I need the best. Great warranty. This is however, a rather heavy mower, so if you need to transport it, get some ramps.

Honda 216 propelled mower
The only mower needed. Must be propelled. You'll regret it if you don't get the 3speed automatic mower. Walking and steering takes enough energy. 10th in same day in hilly neighbourhood Honda Popelled leaves you with enough energy at the end of the day to live more.
I know plenty of mature age smart people that just wreck stuff. And could wreck a 216 quite quickly. Hot tips for owners. Read manual. Chuck manual. Machinery newbies should keep manual and perhaps do a small engines and machinery course. I've seen you newbies fix fails when ...I was a mechanic. Even shopping bags as radiator caps. Upon purchase take it apart to rebuild it better. Not the engine or gearbox . They're great. Undo all nuts, add washers & a spring washer. Torque wheels on as cars wheel bearings.not like mowers. Use high strength loctite on all nuts including all in handle bar assembly. Fix brand new softer rubber to wheels over existing tire. Cut in less tread. Turn revs up to 3800. Can do more but sound freaks people out. Slightly push forward as engaging gear always. Less drive train stress. Use brushcutter to cut under low growth trees and bushes & corners rounded so 216 can go forward and turn well and clear enabling non stop forward cutting, in laps starting the outside until centre.keep carby side on the inside always to avoid damage from branches and bushes as you lap. Lil bit of push and pull to finish centre. Efficiency gained on all moving parts. Plus fast jobs more $ per hrs. Put memory foam under mower in trailer travel. Big mower for big grass. Remember ramps when needed. Too heavy for trips down/up stairs. Don't bother plugging a hose into the deck fitting. It's just for decoration. You might want to wait until warranty expires before doing upgrades. I'd do it straight away. If anything should go bad I'd remove all my upgrades before taking it to place of purchase for warranty work.
Had Honda self propelled mowers for 25 years.
So, my second Honda Mower seems now to be pretty tired, (it is designated HRU 215 so I guess it is the forerunner of the 216) and will be replaced soon. I've been using Honda self propelled mowers for 25 years and don't remember the designation of the one I had originally....oh and did I say I've had only two in those 25 years?
This one still starts first pull, and seems comparatively quiet. I don't get clogging problems like the commercial operators. I can see their points in the various reviews posted, but as a home user this mower (well ...
King of the lawn
Could not miss a couple of bad reviews on this page so I thought I'd even the scales a little. I have a hru216 self propelled mower and I've owned it from new and it's now going on four years old. Now paying almost $1700 for a mower was hard to get over at the start but you get what you pay for. I live in north Queensland and I would have to say I have the best lawn in the suburb however I mow at least twice a week sometimes three and my mower has not missed a beat. Oil, blades and air filter every six months and it's trouble free mowing. Still...on original wheels, maybe the lads going through gearboxes and wheels should learn how to now on a cheapo bindings mower. Maybe then they will appreciate the Honda they had.I'll get ten years or more out of mine it still looks and runs like new, it will amaze people how long things last if you look after it. [censored word removed] good It cant operate itself
Great cut and powerful engine
Fantastic lawnmower, much better then any other mower we have had previously. Great for larger lawns i.e. 0.5 to 1 acre. Love that's it self propelled, starts first time and can cut through pretty much any type of lawn/grass effortlessly. Comes with 4 yr warranty. Mulch and catcher works really well.
cuts well and efficiently, powerful engine, starts first time
nothing really, just that is it a heavy machine
Have been using a HRU216M1 for three years, as a professional, and it is still going strong. Just bought my second machine (the K2). Only repairs have been with areas where you would expect wear & tear, like the drive shaft to the gear box. Clogging of shute only occurs where grass is extremely thick and wet, and would be expected.
Works for me.
Great Mower, well worth it
This is a great machine, i have a decent size yard with 2 moderate slopes and one nasty slope and i couldnt do it with out this mower. One pull to start is awesome. Forget how dear it is, i believe you get what you pay for, you buy rubbish itll be rubbish, buy the best itll perform the best, and thats what ive done.
In saying that i do find it a bit heavy to work with but not unmanageable and its definaltly a bit underpowered, she does bog down a fair bit, wet or dry grass but again its not unmanageable. The only thing i cant figure out is how to put in is the mulching plug.
Terrific mower over all, glad i bought it
Self propelled, Good on fuel, quality, easy to use, Honda
Tad heavy, a little underpowered
I purchased this machine nearly 12 months ago for use within my gardening business, and although it came with a significant price tag I have not regretted the outlay one bit.
If you are doing a large lawn, or simply a lot of them then this self propelled mower is a must. Very strong 5.5HP motor and a respectable 1.5litre fuel tank will see you through the day even if you get tired it will do the work as long as you steer.
Quality of cut is excellent and the suction is amazing, leaf litter is easily picked up. Three gears to choose from to...suit the length of grass, and I've done a couple jobs where any other mower would have called for a slasher but this machine powered through. Extra long handle is tall bloke friendly, like myself at 6.3", it saves you from hunching over like on older models. Although very sceptical at first, the blade safety system is actually very good. Mower will run without blades rotating, you engage and hold the bar in place on the handle along with the travel bar. Blades stop within half a second should you release the bar for whatever reason. This is also a great feature since it stops you getting covered in clippings during summer when leaning down to empty the very large 70litre catcher. Be warned, this is a very heavy machine. If you drive an alloy tray utility and carry your mower on there instead of a specialised trailer then buy ramps. I'm not sure of the exact weight but unless your are Mr Universe buy them, its very awkward to pick up. It will also leave tracks in damp soil during winter because of the weight.
