Useless, worst vacuum ever.
I bought this vacuum from Godfreys and can't believe they sell this product with a straight face. Hopeless, no suction on any surface, never will buy a hoover again, absolute trash.

Piece of garbage lost suction after about 4 uses
I'm getting a little tired of these products which presumably come from China and are not made to what we used to call reliable standard in the western world. 4 uses and the suction was fine. Then it got extremely weak, and cleaning out the filter didn't help at all. I understand it is at the low end of the price range, but you tend to hope for at least a couple of years' use of things you buy, not a couple of months.
Purchased in January 2020 at Godfreys Physical Stores for $130.00.

Hi Johnny,
We are sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing with your machine.
We would also recommend to check for blockages in the foot, rod, hose and canister and the suction dial on the machine between the on/off and cord retract buttons....
I checked for blockages. This is the second dud I have bought from your store. Last one was a similar story. You need to stop importing from China, although maybe no other country remembers how to mak...
Read moree vacuum cleaners after so much reliance on cheap merchandise. Rest assured I will be taking the machine to your store, which, since reading these other reviews, I have discovered sold me this thing after long being aware this unit was very problematic. We're going to have a problem if I don't get a full refund or a replacement with a more reliable product, and you aren't getting another cent out of me either way.Godfrey G.Hoover
Hi Johnny,
No worries, just take the machine into your nearest store for further inspection.
Keep in mind that the warranty on the machine is a repair, replacement or refund warranty as per the ACCC....

Absolutely worst vacuum ever!!!! If I could would rate it -5 stars
This is the absolutely WORST vacuum I have ever used in my life!!!!!! and I also bought it at Godfreys!! It is such a con and has amazing suction in the store when it is completely clean and dust free. As soon as the hepa filter comes into contact with dust a noise is made in the vacuum and the suction turns to NO suction. You will need to clean it every 30 seconds and then it will suck well for about 20 seconds. HA HA it is really hilarious owning this vacuum. I've never felt so annoyed when vacuuming and I hate such a bad design but I mus...
Read moret say the con is in how well it sucked in the store. It takes so much longer the you need to clean the vacuum every 20 seconds. Once it meets dirt it turns to total crap. HATE this vacuum and now also have lost faith in purchasing a vacuum at Godfreys.Purchased in November 2019.

I was Sold a dud!
I was sold this vac at godfrey’s. I have a small house and no pets and this vac can’t cope with it’s job. I have to empty and clean it EVERY time I use it and it clogs EVERY time I use it. Worst vac I’ve ever wasted good money on! I’m extremely disappointed.
Purchased in November 2018 at Godfreys Physical Stores for $199.00.

Read moretandard, as was recommended by the salesperson who sold it to me. What it comes down to is that I believe that it’s a badly designed vac and I’m very disappointed with it.Godfrey G.Hoover

To date, this is the Worst vacuum cleaner I ever bought I am replacing bags when they are barely 20% full I have 3 dogs 1 large mixed breed 1 Chihuahua 1 Yorkshire terrier and suction is Bad, full suction is barely half of an old Volta I had for years. It takes far longer to clean house and now the wife has started Dialysis has a Pacemaker/Defibrillator and waiting for another Shoulder and Knee replacement so is unable to much so I am to Clean house, Washing etc look after gardens, Mow the Yard and do Renovations on top of it all. I'm on disability So I need things to work properly though unfortunately not the Hoover Smart R1 Bagged Vacuum cleaner I'll never buy another Hoover

it sucks
i have been an industrial designer for the first thirty years of my career and i loath products that just fail, fail, fail,.
Essentially, the ducting in the bagless container is tortuous and restrictive to air flow, robbing the machine of valuable suction efficiency not to mention the conical filter which is very restrictive and poorly conceived, filling quickly with grog and fluff which has no hope of getting through the fine grate to the main chamber. Tthe wand dropping out all the time cannot be solved with wondrous ways to push fit the joi...
Rubbish!!
We got this from Godfreys saying it was a rely good product, it has done the work but only after 2 year's the motor has burnt out and that was only using it for 18 of those 24 months ,using it once a week! I would not recommend this vacuum cleaner to any one, I thought that Hoover was suppose to be a top brand.

Wouldnt give it away USELESS
This thing needs a disassemble & all filters & parts thoroughly cleaned for every use. Did the whole thorough clean of it yesterday, I then vacuumed the tiled floor for 5 mins & it wasnt picking anything up so i put my hand over end of pipe & on max there was zero suction. Should be recalled because its total junk. Had a bagged hoover once before that wasnt great, but this thing is pure garbage.

Rubbish
Had this vacuum cleaner for 3 month. Absolutely bucket of rubbish. Does not pick up fluff, cotton or my girls hair from carpet. Really got conned by the salesman at Godfreys stating it was one of their best sellers!!!!!! What a joke.... Under any circumstances do not buy. Don't even accept if free it will do your head in.......
I agree with all the other reviews, this cleaner does not pick up dust, I can see the dust
I fully agree with all the problems other customers have had with this machine, very disappointed with it, respectfully; Hoover you should not sell bagless cleaners if you know they don't do the job they are meant to do. I only have a small unit to vacuum; I would hate to try to clean a large house with it.
Worst vacuum ever
Everything said about this vacuum is true, does not pick up anything, tube constantly falls out, extension cord is very short. Its almost like you vacuum and then have to turn around and do it again. It picks up very little and its not like I even have carpet. All wood floors with one rug. Trying to complain to Godfreys is pointless...a generic response from their homepage and then your comment is deleted. Awful awful cleaner, do not buy this or anything from Godfreys.
Worst vacuum I have ever brought
There is no auction in this 6 month old vacuum. In our 4 bed house with only bedrooms being carpeted and the rest are floating floors, I have to empty the filter and catcher four times and even then I have to use the nozzle directly to pick up fluff and hair off the floor.
Worst thing I have ever brought and was strongly encouraged by godfreys to buy this one.

Wish I never bought it
Was talked into this by godfreys after my last vacuum stopped working. It has very average suction, and struggles to pick up pet hair from carpet and furniture. The cord is quite short meaning i have to unplug to reach different areas of my house. Bag size is also very small. regret buying this!

Hoover Smart is a terrible hoover
No suction. It will not pick up anything. My home looks worse after hoovering. Full of dust. Short lead. Do not buy this hoover, it is a health hazard. Have tried to complain, Hoover just do not care. So noisy. I would rather have old hoover back which was 10 years old.

Regret buying this machine
I purchased this machine from Godfreys about two months ago. It's suction is average to okay. The cord is shorter than my previous machine, and so I have to use an extension cord. The tube falls out of the handle easily, also the head will occasionally fall off the hose during use. However, the worst thing is having to clean the container every time I use it. I have had bagless vacuum cleaners before and had to clean filters on a regular basis, but this one pretty much needs intensive cleaning every time! The cone needs pulling out every time y...
Read moreou vacuum, and dust and dirt needs to be physically removed from this part. The foam filter ideally should be washed every use, (or perhaps every second use). You can wash the entire container also, but must ensure it's dry before reassembling. Oh, and did I mention another filter that cannot be cleaned - you have to buy a new one every six months. What a fool I was to buy into this drama! When I finally finish the whole cleaning process I feel like I need a shower. If you've never used a good bagless vacuum before, it's enough to put you off bagless cleaners for life. I will never buy Hoover again, and never from Godfreys again.Rossmelbourne
Always blocked and looses suction
The hose has a wire running up inside that means it always gets blocked. Air escapes out of the telescopic handle meaning a loss of suction resulting in it not even being able to suck up small bits of paper, wrapping and fluff. It also has long hard plastic parts to the hose that make it difficult to release the obstruction. All in all making it the worst and most expensive vacuum I have ever bought.
Worst vacuum cleaner I've ever had
This vacuum cleaner has minimal suction even when the filters are clean. I hate it so much! To clean the carpets I have to take off the metal hose and just put the cleaning head onto the flexible hose and then get on my hands and knees to vacuum the carpet! At 66 years old this is not fun! Luckily my main living area is tiles! Will be replacing when I can afford it.
Too complicated!
Great when you first use it, then it seems to stop working. There are three filters which you need to clean after every use, which when you get wet screws up the whole machine. We though after 3 months that it was the filters which stopped the sucking, but in an actual fact it is the curved plastic tube where the vent is. Dust, hair, and stones get clogged easily in it which causes the sucking to stop. So, when we used a hanger and put it down the tube, we pulled out big bundles of dust and hair. Don't go and spend $29 on a new filter without checking that first.
Most pathetic vacuum around
Minimal suction, have to empty out filter about 3 times each time I vacuum our tiny house. Have had to replace filter several times throughout the past year. Went into Godfreys Hoppers Crossing with a different product in mind and was very strongly recommended this one by the staff member. Worst buy I have ever made. What a piece of junk!

Hi Johnno,
Read moreLoss of suction is usually caused by a blockage in the machine, blockages can occur in the head, rod, hose, canister and filters, we would recommend to check these areas. Please also keep in mind that filters are recommended to be replaced every 6-9 month depending on use. If you are unable to locate any blockages or are still experiencing issues we would advise to take the machine into your nearest Godfreys store for further inspection and to discuss your options.
