very expensive purchasing mistake
My sister bought one of these machines at $499, it lasted 12 months before it started to play up. She took it back to the shop and nothing could be found wrong with it. She stopped using it as it continued to play up in that it would take ages to start (10 - 15 minutes) after you pressed the button on the handle. I eventually took it to an accredited appliance shop and when they pulled it apart the motor was broken beyond repair. They seem to think that she had vacuumed up something solid and it had hit the motor on suction. Repair quote wa...s around $250. It had only been used inside her house and she can't recall anything that would have been sucked up that could be so damaging. My question is how did it make contact with the motor. We can only put it down to bad design. We decided not to get it repaired as the the chances of it happening again would be high. There are a lot of negative reviews on this product. Hoover really need to fix whatever the problem is, it really shouldn't be forsale.
Make sure to change the battery in the handle if it will not start - yes, there is a button battery there.
Ok, I put a negative review because the vacuum would not start - MY BAD!
There's a button battery in the handle and it doesn't last as long as one might expect - it's an easy change and cheap.
The vacuum is great on my floors, an expensive wood floor, tiles and carpet. The battery has enough charge to do my whole house - just. But I bought it on a special where a second battery was included free of charge so I never have problems with battery life. It's relatively light for the style of product. There can be a dust smell coming from the bag if ...
Hoover Zoom switch problem.
We purchased this machine about three years ago and paid over $700 dollars for it. Now for the THIRD time the power switch on the handle is playing up. It can take ages to start the machine and I would have thought by now that Hoover would have realized that they have a problem with this part. I have not got the patience to go through the process of having that part replaced again knowing full well that the problem will return. Goodbye Hoover Zoom!
Hoover Zoom rubbish vacuum cleaner
After 6 months won’t turn on unless you keep trying for 10 to 15 minutes. It sometimes will start and other times it won’t. I end up sweeping my floors with a broom. Ive grown to hate this machine. Godfreys Balcatta checked it and said was fine. Throwing it in the bin as piece of rubbish. Paid $499 2 years ago .
works great for a few weeks
This machine, when it works, its great! No fumbling with cords, no pulling around a ball and chain. Just super easy to go around the house and vacuum. I suffer from sciatica and I have issues with conventional vacuums, not with this one though. However there is an powering up issue and after a month it decided to work only when it wanted to work. Im kinda shattered tbh, I thought I found a great machine.
Not for those with dust sensitivity.
The strong dust smell that this Machine give off always starts my allergies up I change my bag monthly even if the bags are not full but it hasn't helped. I spent $ 800 on this vacuum cleaner 2 years ago due such a large investment I don't want to spend anymore money after only 2 years.
When it works it's great...
The hoover zoom is easy to manoeuvre and does a great cleaning job (probably better on carpet than hard floors but decent at all). The cordless design is super handy.
We had a nightmare of a time with these. Our 1st machine was fine for a few months then had an issue with powering up. We took it back and they said it was a motor problem which they fixed. Not long thereafter the whole foot of it broke off (as in we lifted it off the ground and the foot tore off from its own weight!) This was also repaired. Then the thing stopped starti...ng at all so back off to get repaired. Lasted a short while and it was back to not powering up. At this point after 4 issues with our vacuum cleaner we demanded a replacement. Well the replacement lasted 2 weeks before it stopped powering up too. We finally got a refund and we're now on the lookout for something else. The Hoover Zoom has so much potential but has some seriously bad faults and it is with a heavy heart that I cannot recommend it to others.
Good when it works
This is a great vacuum cleaner and does it’s job really well. The first one had a defect after a few months but so far the second one has been great.
I've had the Zoom for almost 12months. Initially I was wrapt with it - after struggling with a cumbersome vacuum cleaner with a split hose, and having to use two extension cords to do the entire house - the ZOOM was a dream to use. However, several months ago I began to pay attention to the nagging things it could NOT do. I could no longer vacuum the skirting boards, difficulty vacuuming inside wardrobes, couldn't vacuum the car.
It was fantastic at picking up dog hair but it would devour my one and only shag pile rug and cut out. Oh! and ...

A++ Near perfect delight; once you go cordless you won’t want to go back
I saw this attractive blue and grey vacuum advertised online late 2017. I wanted it immediately but waited until January 2018 to buy. The supposed RRP is something like $799 which is crazy, I have only ever seen it on “sale” in store for $499. It is even cheaper on eBay, but I had to try it out in the shop and it was somewhat of an impulse buy from godfreys east Maitland. I said I’d buy the vacuum if I could have a box of bags (4 bags) for free.
Pros: large capacity bags (7.5L), powerful suction (216 Watts, 36volts) and long run time (Aprox 2...
Questions & Answers
How do I get machine to switch on ? I’ve had the zoom for 2-3 years & thought it was an issue with the button battery in handle which I replaced. Still won’t start. Main battery is fully charged.
Hi Mary, ive had my machine 2 years, worked for 6 months and after that could never get it to switch on unless I held my finger on the button upto 10 minutes and pushed the inactive machine around the house and all of a sudden it would start. I took it to godfreys at about 12 months and they said nothing wrong with it. I have changed batteries and still won’t work. I think this is a common fault with this product as have seen other complaints same issue. Im taking mine back to godfreys one more time and if they can’t fix , consumer affairs.
Sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing with your machine.
After replacing the button battery in the handle did you resynch to the machine?
