HP Envy 13

Avoid it
I have had it for about a year and half and it was great up to about 13 months (ie out of warrenty).
The keyboard does not work sometimes and sometime it works but what ends up on the document is completely different than what was typed.
Runs extremely hot, in the summer its too hot to rest on your legs, for example.
Crashes the most when on video calls, even with the camera turned off.
Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi Online Store for $1,200.

DO NOT buy HP Envy!
We bought a HP Envy 13 inch i7 8Gb around Dec 2020. It's for our son as he started high school this year. All seem to be going well until around June 2021. We started to notice yellow patches on the screen and the adapter plug made buzzing noise when we plugged into power socket. We contacted HP support. They sent a technician over and he found there's an exposed wire on the power cord which is rather odd as it's relatively new. He gave us a replacement and said someone would contact us about the screen issue. A couple of weeks later still noth...
Read moreing and we received an email to advise the case is closed. We replied back but received no response. Then covid lockdown hit NSW for 3 months plus. Lockdown easing we tried to contact HP again and this time an additional issue - the wifi reception was poor, even compared with another laptop (Dell) side by side. The tech support provided troubleshoot service via whatsapp. A slight improvement but it's still not good enough. They provided a message to a hp support page and when I got to one of the 'potential' solutions it did not complete properly and potentially may affect something that we are unaware of, yet. We contacted hp again and they asked if we could go through troubleshooting again. This time I had to ask how long it would take. So far I had spent around 3-5 hours troubleshooting. This time I said "no" as I have work commitment. They now said they will arrange an onsite technician to assess the unit. Still waiting for the call. This HP envy is a premium product but the quality and service are so poor it is so disappointing. I have an Asus that's over 10 years old & a Dell about 4 years and I have never had any issue.Purchased in at HP Australia for $1,684.
Dont buy this unless you want to throw your money into a drain
The screen came deattached after few weeks of use and hp said not under warranty. I would love to get a refund as the screen came off because of its faulty design that keeps pushing the screen against the desk each time you open the laptop, hence the deattachment.
Purchased at HP Australia for $1,100.

Great laptop, disappointing battery
This review is for the HP Envy 13-ba0074tx.
This laptop offers great performance for anything that doesn't require GPU power. It works well as a school laptop but has a lack luster battery life. it has run flat on me once in four weeks. When pluged in it offers very good performance.
Purchased in for $1,700.

Big mistake
Purchased this a year ago from Harvey Norman. The first one was replaced in a few days as one of the drivers was missing.
The microphone on the new one was not installed properly and I only discovered it when I went to use it months later.
The fans are very noisy and run constantly which is a worry
The touch screen only works intermittently.
I made the mistake of trying to get the touch screen sorted before the warranty expired and dealing with HP is a nightmare.Long waiting times on the phone listening to horrible music and an annoying America...
Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $1,350.

A gem of a Laptop. Nil issues, looks very smart.
This is for the latest HP Envy 13.3" ad028TX Intel Core i5Processor 8GB 256GB Notebook.
All of the earlier model quirks seem to of been fixed. We use it for general browsing, spreadsheet input and calculation, Photo viewing and manipulation and general office type requirements.
Unlike the earlier versions this model doesn't get hot or crash. It is also noiseless.
The 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and 1920x1080 touch screen make this a very workable laptop.
The screen is as sharp as :) and can be viewed from any angle. Battery life is excellent.
I read many reviews before making this purchase. I was not put off and am very pleased with the purchase.
Very much recommended.

OVERHEATS during idle. 80 degree temperature for doing nothing.
This laptop is rubbish. It constantly overheats for no good reason. You can turn on the laptop, not open any programs and it still runs at 80 degrees Celsius. The fans spin at maximum all the time which is insanely loud and disrupting. The surface of the laptop gets so hot that it burns your fingers to touch. Your legs will burn if you place this laptop on your lap. Stay away.

Waste of time and money
This laptop works like a charm, until it freezes while you're opening your web browser. Or using Spotify. Or just switching the laptop on. You never know when the Envy is going to freeze on you! It's a surprise! You don't even have to be doing anything remotely taxing on the laptop. I only had Spotify running (NOTHING ELSE) and then the Envy freezes. I paid AUD 1500 for this piece of junk, I bet HP is having a laugh.
Oh and you can't even email HP apparently their website has made it such that you have to either call (hence spending more mon...
Read moreey that you've already wasted) or contribute to a "Forum" of increasingly frustrated customers. Wonderful HP. Wonderful. Kudos to you and your overpriced, useless laptop. I've lost so much data because your pathetic notebook freezes. I have a 6 year old Dell laptop on which I do exactly the same word processing/web surfing/mild MATLAB use as I do on the Envy, and it hasn't frozen on me yet. Don't believe the glowing reviews. Don't buy this product, and don't buy HP.Questions & Answers
