The best purely for Apple Pay type transactions, otherwise nothing else
At the time of review, this HSBC debit card is the best I’ve found for “physical” transactions, specifically for the 2% Cashback on Apple Pay (and PayPass etc). For anything else, this is a waste of time and you’re better off sticking with anything popular that offers no fees, no international fees, better spend tracking, etc. such as ING.

Good 2% rebate
Opened the account 2 months ago. Waiting for my $100 bonus payment as I have deposited 2000 each month. So far, have got the 2% rebate on most of my purchases except for Coles and Metro Petrol because these merchants classified my Tap and Go purchases as EFTPOS rather than Visa PayWave. Called the service center at 9:30pm and got a good response explaining the situation. Although it’s frustrating that Coles purchases can’t earn me 2% rebate, I’m happy with the service so far.

Easy to open with great features
I am so surprised by many of these reviews. I opened my account very quickly online, with no need for attorneys as someone else apparently did. Online banking was simple to set up, definitely not harder than giving birth as another said. I have rung a few times and never had the long wait times of another reviewer.
The cashback on purchases is super, and it is an account I recommend highly.

The card is brilliant for overseas transactions, great for local ones and amazing if there is a problem.
I have had this card for a few years now having opted for it due to its great currency exchange rates and low transaction fees when transferring from overseas accounts. However I now use the card for pretty much every transaction I do anywhere and have been genuinely delighted with the way the account is run.
Recently, I discovered a transaction I had no memory of authorising, so rang the local phone line and asked what it was. The answer didnt clarify the issue so I requested a dispute to ensure there was nothing shonky going on.
They cance...
Read moreled my card and issued a fresh one and commenced their dispute process. Within 2 business days they confirmed they had reversed the transaction and it was now up to whoever had changed the item to prove it was legitimate. For this to have happened inside 2 days is remarkable and the care and advice of the HSBC service agent was absolutely brilliant. I can highly recommend this card to anyone wanting a debit card with no account fees for local transactions and low charges for international transactions as well as an excellent currency exchange rate, all backed up by a customer service that is efficient and pleasant to deal with.Find out how HSBC Everyday Global compares to other Transaction Accounts

Beware of exchange rates
Opening the account 12 months ago was a bit of challenge, but after three weeks it was approved and I received my card. It is brilliant for transactions in one of the currencies held in the account. For other currencies it was originally very good with the exchange rate being consistently exactly as provided on the Visa website. For the last 2 months, however, the exchange rate used has consistently been less favourable that the VIsa rate which the PDS says is to be used. It seems that the bank is now taking a margin of around 1.4% on foreign transactions in currencies not held in the account. This is very sneaky, not to mention dishonest.

Excellent Card for Hedging Currency for Overseas Travel
I applied for and was approved for the HSBC Everyday Global card on-line in a few minutes, and uploaded some documents, and received the card a week later.
For local use in Australia the card is much like other debit cards, put money in and use it. The one advantage I've found from using VISA debit cards is that when I buy plane trips at BudgetAir.com.au, I don't incur the fee that is otherwise charged on Mastercard Debit and Credit cards and on Visa Debit cards.
One downside of the HSBC card, is that I cannot change the PIN on-line, and hav...
Read moree to do it at one of their ATMs. (I have none handy). For getting access to cash overseas, I generally go unhedged and use the Citibank Debit Mastercard, which doesn't have the overseas 3% foreign exchange fee, and the cash is given out at the Mastercard exchange rate (unless one foolishly selects the option routinely now put in overseas ATMs to convert the withdrawal amount to Australian dollars at their rate - DON"T do it). But, if one is travelling overseas in say three to six to nine months, and one is worried that the Aussie dollar may fall or collapse and hurt or ruin one's holiday, then the HSBC Everyday Global Card is the best card I've so far come across for hedging currency quickly and easily, at lowest cost. One can choose to buy 10 foreign currencies and put them in the card at the HSBC exchange rate, for use when travelling later.Very Inflexible Product
This product is ridiculously inflexible and requires a user beware warning. On opening this account the holder is required to select a number of supported currencies to transact in from a drop down list should you wish to secure a particular currency at a set rate prior to travel. These currency choices then become locked in and it is then not possible to add additional supported currencies at a later date to support travel to other destinations. According to HSBC their tech team is "looking at the issue". I would suggest that anyone opening on...
Read moree of these inflexible accounts selects ALL of the listed currencies available to protect the needs of future travel. A pretty ordinary deficiency from a product trumpeted by HSBC as revolutionizing travel debit cards. This issue leaves a nasty taste before even having the opportunity to use it.Related Articles
