Awful, Awful service
HSBC is the worst bank I experienced in Australia. Very hard to allow you to discharge your home loan and refinance to other bank. Always blaming customer's fault for their terrible customer service. Avoid it and never use it. Can I give zero star to this hopeless bank?
Avoid and save the pain
I've been with HSBC in AUS for 14 years. Have noticed how HSBC in that time has lost ground - now a really daggy bank in all aspects - service, basic competence, technology, product features, pricing - it's all appalling and behind the others. They make little effort on a service front - and even deliberately became obstructive eg. 'lost' documents - when I tried to move my home loan! A bunch of pretenders. Avoid.
It wouldn't get much worse than this.
Extremely rude customer service and irresponsible
Applied home loan at Camberwell Branch. Constantly provide customer wrong information and yet blaming customer's fault. Never pick up or return urgent calls, excuse was too busy and no time to pick up call. Slow process and keep delay customer's case till miss the settlement date and penalty incurred yet not taking any action to reimburse customer's lost.
Horrible customer service attitude. Never pick-up phone calls and never return calls. Slow process. Irresponsible. Unprofessional service.

The relations manager at burwood branch nsw is excellent, pretty much explained everything to me, above and beyond what I needed. The rate they offered 5.79 (0.45 off the life of the loan) is so good even my mortgage broker admits she can't match it. The approval process took 5 business days. Having being a customer of HSBC for some years now I am very pleased with their general attitude towards customers. I recommend them.

Try to avoid if you could
I have this Homeloan with HSBC bank since 2010 when they were offering 1.5% discounted rate for the first year. The application process itself is a pain, the mortgage manager kept asking for my pay slips eventhough i have provided him at least 3 times and he could even lost my application form twice! However, in the very last days, i get the loan just in time... it was a bit of roller coaster ride.
After one year, when the honeymoon rate expired and i would like to fix my interest rate so i went to see him again. It was the starts of secon...d pain, he said i could fill up the form, however they could not lock in the 'today's fixed rate due to their policy... what does it mean? Later on, i understood that he is trying to delay my 'fixed loan' application process because he knew that HSBC will increase the fixed loan interest rate within the next 2 weeks.... he wasn't very helpful is he. Finally, beware of HSBC do increase the variable interest rate more than the reserve bank, at one point, they have raised the interest rate by 0.4% while reserve bank only increase the rate by 0.25%. first year 1.5% discounted rate, great internet banking security terrible mortgage manager, you have to stick with him for the rest of your loan payment period. increase the standard variable loan rate more than the reserve bank
This company may be okay to bank with, maybe their loans are okay too once you get one. But trying to find anyone to seriously discuss the loans, the difference between loans, the for and against of the different types of loans-in short, any in depth discussion is just about impossible to generate. Maybe they just don't want the business. Their customer care-well, they should be ashamed of the standard. We've just about given up with them.

At the time of looking for our home loan HSBC had a special on that offered 1.5% off standard variable rate for 12 months. Hubby was already banking with HSBC and liked them so we took up this offer. I was pleased that we were able to split the loan into fixed and variable portions and also have an offset account. They also have quite good security for your internet banking.

just applied the power advantage home loan with them last week, got through today, really fast process, do not need much support document or paper, really easy to apply, i got a personal primier manager which is really helpful and always contactable, been with them for 7 years, and with the cheapest home loan on the market today, 5.69% for 12 months. 6.6% ongoing, you cannot beat it.
best rate on the market today. 5.69% for 12 months, you can save thousands with first year alone,your own account manager.
don't like the monthly fee, which is 20/month or 35/month depends with product you choose, but, really, it is still cheap.
I'd probably find a home loan with good account manger and more branches next time. Of course with more competitive interest rates.
Good at the online banking. Cusotmer service is nice over the phone.
Bad home loan account management. Unable to change account manger if you don't like or move to somewhere else. You have to do the business where you open the account, not really convenience. My account manger in HSBC at Town Hall Sydney was rude. Even I complained to CS, nothing got back to me.
I'd probably find a home loan with a more competitive rate and more branches if I was to get a loan again but I'd also make sure they can match HSBC's internet security because it gives good peace of mind to know that it is not just a matter of someone having your user ID details in order to get into your account, they need the physical security device as well.
