Not a reliable car
I bought my Hyundai Elantra in 2017 and used it for 2 years. It broke down twice in that time period. One with fuel injection issue and other with engine coolant leakage. Both the time it had to be in service centre for almost 2 weeks. I had to sell it as it was not reliable to my expectation.
Loved the features in Elantra, auto headlights, auto wiper and Apple CarPlay.
Purchased in June 2017 for $30,150.00.
Cheap But Very Reliable
Four years ago, I found myself sick with recently-diagnosed chronic leukaemia and unable to work. As an added whammy, my Astra died and I had to find a reliable and cheap car ASAP. My 2004 Hyundai Elantra hasnt skipped a beat. Gets me from A to B, very fuel efficient and (touch wood) no major issues in that tiime. For an older model, it has been more than worth what I paid...

Crankshaft Sensor Malfunction
My 2013 Elantra has been diagnosed with a failed Crankshaft Sensor and faulty ESC Module, It only just out of warranty and Hyundai refuse to do anything about it. Also its under Dealer Warranty but they wont cover it under their warranty. No more Hyundai for me. My daughter has an i30 and is also unhappy.

Great Car with a decent price tag
I have used this car for over 5 years now. You will love the power steering and is still better than many new cars in the current market. Both exterior and the interiors stand-out. Never had any issues apart from wear and tear for the first 5 years. Cruise control seems to be a common issue with these models as it ages.

I love it
I love my Hyundai. I dive it every day. Only thing I’d say it it’s not what I’d call a family car. I have a baby seat in the middle and it’s impossible to get the other two rear seatbelts done up. Had to buy extender straps. Also noisy on start up. For about the first 10 mins it taps loudly. Like the oil is not circulating properly. The dealer assured me this is “ normal” and everything is fine. Beautiful to drive tho and smooth. Good fuel economy. Don’t be fooled by “free” paint protection. I have to pay every year to have it touched up to maintain warranty.
Not a bad car but service will drive you nuts. The radio is garbage
Not a bad car however the service is terrible. My Bluetooth when I am driving is so distorted I cannot use it. When I ring Hyundai Sinclair Penrith they cannot hear me at all when I complain - I do this so they can hear how bad it is. I have been to the dealers 3 times over this and many calls on the road so they can hear it - it's unusable. Sinclair has agreed to replace the radio. Cartronics - the replacement supplier denies there could be a problem - this is the best that Hyundai can do and produce. Now I am in the middle of supplier denying...supply and Sinclair dealer - not the best for a customer. I rang Hyundai customer care regarding this and was told I should do what I am told and go in there at Cartronics demands for a 4th time to prove again to Cartronics what the dealers already knows, wasting my time. I am a busy electrical engineer and this is a company car supplied lease thru Summit. No calls back from Cartronics as they are too busy last week, surprise surprise. This is unbelievable and I hate the car and service now. I expect a whole lot better from Hyundai putting the customer out in the middle of an internal supplier demanding garbage.
We bought this car in Year 2016. It is easy to drive on the highway and city. We love this car’s body shape and leather seats, but the seats are very hot in the summer season if I park the car without shades. It’s radio signal and Bluetooth speaker quality are terrible. More than 50% of time, another person cannot hear my voice. Hyundai could not probably solve the problems.
Cheap but good
Bought as a cheap run-around car. Although it is ageing the trim, carpets, engine, seats are all like new. No engine faults at all and very reliable. Dash is cracking though, due to heat and it has/had some electrical issues such as the central locking and interior lighting failing but I'm not concerned about these as long as the reliability is there.
A cheap, small car, with few problems and good air con.
Handles well,and is easy on the pocket, do hear some tyre noise.
When moving from stop say at roundabout it is not as smooth as I would like. The interior is well fitted, but having lower back problem, I find it hard to get out, especially in a parking area where door can't be fully opened.
I have had a few problems in the early days, one being after putting my shopping in the boot on an extremely hot day, the car wouldn't start. Called road service, but they thought I was in N.T. and didn't dispatch to my locality.
On taking the car to the dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong. Then in the winter there was black smoke from the exhaust, again dealer couldn't find any problem.
Bang for Buck the Elantra Elite is Great Value
With my lifestyle changing I decided to get rid of my Ford Territory and go for something smaller. My Wife recently purchased an I30 and when I drove that I was impressed but needed something bigger. I looked around and I came up with 3 to choose from, Honda Civic, Kia Cerato and the Elantra. I test drove all of them and I had the Civic on top but that was the turbo version. The Cerato and Elantra drove and handled well I felt that the Elantra was more refined. I decided on the Hyundai Elantra as the dealer was prepared to give me a deal. Kia w...as similar but I just didn’t like the finish. Honda wasn’t prepared to do anything, it was take it or leave it, so I left it. My Fuel use per week is around $40, it was $100. It drives great and handles really well and is comfortable for me. Being 6ft and used to the Territory I am adjusting getting in and out and in saying that I am very comfortable when I drive. Downside and a minor downside is the radio reception is average but as I have an iPhone I just run off and app and it’s great. You get the DAB in the SR version, I feel it should be across the board. If you are tall in the back you will hit your head on the roof. Power wise it’s there, if I put my foot down I am off. Sure, it’s no V8 but I am not 20 anymore. Bang for buck I could not go past the Elantra, service, roadside assistance and warranty is really good value.
Great car , hard to fault
I have owned my Elantra since new ( bought in 2012) and the only problem I've had is brakes grinding under very hard braking which went away after changing pads to Bendix, I changed the original 15 inch wheels to 17 inch alloys which really improved the handling, overall very impressed
The driving experience is great but the engine isn't as powerful as it should be. This makes driving up hills quite difficult at times, large ones especially. The car isn't that noise but I haven't had it for long so it may be. The steering wheel at times can jerk a little as well. These are all little things after all with overall the driving experience being okay to great. The interior is very slick, there's lots of leg room for me and I'm quite tall. The back seats also provide lots of room which is why this car is great for families. Lastly, it's very cheap to run and can stand the test of time.
Spacious and efficient
Wanted a larger car than our little hatch for a family of four but without the gas guzzling reputation of the larger sedans. The Elantra has plenty of space, a very large boot and is kind at the bowser. It's comfortable, quiet and styling is great. The sun roof stopped working though that may be more to do with the kids playing with it. A good all round car for those who want space in a mid-sized car.
Great Car to drive but has a couple of faults.
Very smooth car to drive and to be a passenger.It has a couple of faults with the first being, my wife is about 5ft 2inches and when she is driving she can't see the front bonnet so if she has to park it is hard for her to judge any vehicle in front of her. The other fault is it has a terrible radio to pick up stations and hear them. We can't listen to our local station if we are more than 30 minutes away.
I purchased a 2015 MD3 Hyundai Elantra Premium.
The car is great and handles well particularly cornering when steering is set to sport mode. Flex steer is a great feature!
Car is roomy for a small sized sedan and the boot space is massive!
The car looks the part, drives well and has a great amount of features. For a 1.8 engine it goes pretty good and overtaking on the freeway is effortless for the car of its class. It would be good to see a higher spec engine model but never the less it's a great car.
Full size alloy spare included, non of this space saver or crappy tool kit.
Great Family Car
Had a 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE for over 6 months purchased brand new from Hyundai, and cannot fault it.
It handles really well and you can also select the steering type you prefer (i.e. soft, normal and sport) I tend to leave it in normal most of the time. It's relatively quiet on the road. The interier is quite spacious for a small sedan, we fit a infant capsule in the backseat without having to pull the passenger seat all the way forward. Hyundai catching up
Have now had this car, the current model for 2.5 years and traveled just under 30k.Bought it new and got the base model as this was the only model with a manual gearbox. The car is fitted with all the latest safety including all round curtain airbags.
The ride around town is precise, the steering maybe a little light but quite enjoyable and the gearbox easy to work through but it is no sports gearbox. All the controls are easy to operate and in close reach, with steering wheel controls for the stereo. Over the 30k journey with an occasional...country drive I have averaged 7.5 lt per 100k, with the tank costing about $55 to fill. It equates to me filling the tank maybe once a month and on a country drive getting a blip over 800k from the tank. Reliabilty hasn't been a problem so far nor should it for a car in it's third year, servicing is once a year/15k and costs about $220. It comes with a 5 year warranty and free roadside assistance whilst the car is serviced by Hyundai. The only negative I can come up with is the carpet used is pretty cheap and my wifes heel in her boot wore a hole in it after 18 months, of course if I had stumped up the $95 for factory fitted floor covers, it wouldn't have happened. As it was Kmart had a generic version that cost $12. The car is big enough for four adults, not five unless it is a short trip, the boot holds a good deal more than it looks from outside. The pick up in the manual version is fine without being outstanding in the manual version but less than inspiring in the auto version, still it is a 1.8 litre engine which hasn't been worked so should last you the journey of 15 years. For the price, these cars are an impressive effort and well worth the look at if you are deciding between the car makers under 2 litre models, they have definitely closed the gap on Toyota for reliable small cars.

Better than expected
This is a used car review pertaining to a 2002 Elantra GL 1.8L hatchback,
I bought this car from a private seller two months ago. The test drive showed it was basically sound with a few niggles that are common to these cars, but no service history for the last 80,000km. So I made a cheeky offer as money would need to be spent to get the car back up to scratch.
First caution: if there's no (or missing) proof of timing belt change(s), walk away OR factor that expense into your negotiations. The engines (1.8 and 2.0) are interference design ...types, so if the timing belt fails, it's rebuild or reco engine time. That's several thousand dollars expense. Getting a workshop to replace the timing belt (do the water pump and accessory belts while they're at it) will cost $500-700 for parts and labor. Maybe a shade under or over depending if you supply your own parts etc. So heeding my own advice, I had the timing belt, water pump and accessory belts changed a week after purchase. Hyundai timing belt intervals for these cars is every 90K, but I've been assured they'll last quite a bit longer. As my car had 210K and evidence of only one belt replaced, I didn't want to risk it. On the test drive, I noticed the door actuators kept signalling the door locks. It would do it in spurts, so you'd have nothing for a minute or so, then they'd rapid-fire for several seconds. Maybe a few seconds of silence then off they'd go again. This is a fairly common problem, and 90% of the time it's not the actuators but the Body Control Module (sends signal to actuators) located behind the centre console. It's not cheap for this OEM part.
My parents bought the car in 2004, brand new. Since then, it's done 90,000 km with out a single fault. Since then I have learnt to drive in it (Manual) and it has been passed to me. Surprisingly punchy, with decent power coming from the 2.0L engine.
Honestly, I couldn't survive without it.
So far so good
Bought with 120,000KMs on the clock. Had no issues. Great engine reasonable economy. Had a sluggish engine when purchased but found the timing belt was out by a tooth when it was changed (before I bought it) which was fixed under warranty The only complaint is the height of the clutch bite point and how light the clutch pedal is. There is no feel which takes some getting used to but a great little car

There are three colors available for the screen background. How do I find the appropriate control screen to do this. I would like to change color just for the fun of it.
I'm looking at getting another car and have narrowed it down to an Elantra. Could anyone please tell me if there is much of a difference between a 2014 Hyundai Elantra SE Auto and a 2015 Hyundai Elantra Elite Auto?
