Best Car I've had
I use this car every day and have done since 2013. It really is the best car I've had and I've bought new before. It's spacious, high enough for short me to see, it's never missed a beat! I would highly recommend this car to anyone. We went the SUV because we had a baby and I didn't want to hurt my back - mission accomplished!! I love this car so much that when it comes to upgrade I will be getting the Tucson which is the newer model just a name change. Love my car!!
Purchased in February 2014.
All wheel drive failure at 165,000km
We purchased our 2011 Hyundai Highlander because of its great reviews and that it was AWD. At 165,000 we noticed wheel spin from the front wheels. When our mechanic examined the vehicle we were advised that there was no power to the rear wheels because the gear box and transfer case had failed and that it would cost $3,943 to dismantle & remove gear box and transfer case, supply and fit 2nd hand transfer case, repair gearbox and replace spline, gaskets and seals, re-assemble!!!! Hyundai Mornington advised they did not deal with warranty issues....When Hyundai customer complaints were asked if they thought it acceptable that their AWD system would only last 165,000km they simply replied that it was out of warranty. Appalling reflection upon Hyundai commitment to supporting their product design and any defects. Never buying another Hyundai. Heard that quite a few AWD have failed on Hyundai. Interested to hear from others with similar problem.
Purchased in January 2011 for $45,000.00.
Hyandai IX 35 Special Edition
This is a great family car with massive amounts of safety features including 7 SRS airbags and is a 5 star ancap star rating - would highly recommend to other Mums.
Purchased in December 2015.
I have a elderly parent who owns a 2011 i35 elite auto the gearbox went after 130000 replaced under warranty now the diff has gone after 170000 unfortunately not under warranty looking at big bucks to replace it Hyundai won't come to the party to help fix it I no it's out of warranty it's only got 170000 on it as the car has been driven so carefully (aka driving miss daisy) always serviced on the dot what a bloody crap company they dont give a damn dont buy from Hyundai there vehicles are crap
Perfect family car!
After driving my mum's ix35, when my husband and I were shopping for our new family car, this was the one we instantly agreed on. We needed a car that was fuel efficient, reliable (I have a love for Hyundai) and could fit our growing family plus all the gear we would need for road trips and camping. The ix35 certainly doesn't disappoint. It is a really comfortable and smooth ride, plus good looking inside and out. We love it!
I bought a brand new IX35 back in June 2011.
It is one of the best cars I have ever owned.
It’s the Petrol Elite model.
Have got around 6.5litres/km since new. Took 10,000km before this good consumption started. It hasn’t missed a beat since new. I do though get it regularly serviced by Hyundai at the regular recommended intervals.
A new battery and 2 sets of tyres are the only things I have ever had to replace.
The car has now done $152000km and it has started raising in full consumption since about 140,000km.
I’m now getting Approx 9lit...

Love the car, dislike the service
The initial purchase from Hyundai was very smooth and enjoyable. This car has a lot of features for the price. It is a great family car, with enough room for 2 kids carseats and space for our dog in the middle. Heated seats are bliss in winter! The first set of tyres out of the factory lasted 90,000 kms! It drives well, and I believed it had a good warranty and extended warranty. However, when I heard a strange noise shortly after the initial 5 year warranty ran out, I was advised by the service team that I needed to replace the wheel bearings ...and that they were not going to honour the additional 3 year extended warranty as there were 'gaps' in my service history. Please bear in mind I followed the instructions and always had my car serviced at the dealership - never even purchased a wiper blade elsewhere. To add insult to injury, I got a second opinion and the noise was caused by my tyres, not the bearings. I was quoted $1500 for an item I didn't even require, and my warranty was dishonoured for bearing which are not even a serviceable item! Safe to say I won't be bothering with Hyundai again, which is sad because the actual car is great, and it was the after sales service and dishonesty which has ruined the experience for me.
Average car which we purchased second hand to downsize.
Use the car daily but have recently towed our caravan on a holiday for 10000 km. Had trouble and had to replace the fuel pump and injectors which cost 6,000 dollars. Not happy with availability of parts. The car is regularly serviced by a non Hyundai mechanic. It was was thoroughly checked out prior to going on our holiday.
Great family car however small boot space
We do love our family car. It comes at a great price point for what you get. We have leather interior, reversing camera, heated seats. THIS CAR DOES FIT 3 CHILD RESTRAINTS IN THE BACKSEAT. I have had many people tell me it doesn't I had a friend upgrade her car because of this. When I was pregnant with my third bub I took my car to kidsafe and they easily installed 3 child restraints in the back seat. This is a huge plus for the car. Fuel consumption is pretty good in my opinion. The only downside for us is the boot is smaller than anticipated, but still wouldn't change our decision this car is great value.
Ticks all the boxes at a low price point.
Economical, cheap buy in cost and what else can you find that drives this nice, has a 5 star safety rating and reverse camera.
I could not see anything else in this category that matches the IX35's features. They may no longer have the name but these were only ever a Tucson anyway.
Brake problem... ix35
Im having the same problem as everyone else with our 2010 ix35 auto....iv checked Pads and rotors and look ok...the other idea i have is to stop with the car in N...i think its riving to high and driving the car forward...witch is loading the Pads ...im going to test my theory!
This is the best car
I bought this car in 2017 and have loved it ever since, it's cheap to run and so quiet too !! the interior is good with leather seats and seat warmers. electric windows and also iso fix for baby seats which was a must for me. Hyundai cars are the best
I DON’T FEEL SAFE-I purchased a second hand IX35 SD 2015 model still in manufacturer’s warranty from a very reputable car yard or so i thought on the Gold Coast, I love the look of this car but do not feel safe driving it. After only about 3 weeks of owning it the car broke down in a shopping center while I was trying to reverse It just died , everything shut down in the middle of the thoroughfare, after getting abused by everyone and me trying to start it for about 5-10 mins it finally started so I then started to drive again and it did exact...ly the same thing just stopped I had to get it pushed back into a car park to get out of everyone way, I called the card yard that I purchased it from they advised me to get a tow truck organised, I went mental at them They had it in the work shop for 1 week but could not find any fault, they said that they took it to Hyundai who also couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Yesterday my husband was driving it and it did exactly the same thing only this time it stopped in the middle of a two lane busy intersection, we had to pushed it to the side of the road, called the car yard who advised probably bad fuel what rubbish!!!!! This is absolute rubbish, I have read reviews where this is a common issue, this car is dangerous this could have been a lot worse we could have been in a bad accident what would have happened if I was on the freeway and it stopped with no steering going at 100klm.
This is our first Hyundai. Very impressed, it has been an honest no issues vehicle. It is the wife's car and thus around town and to supermarket.
I would not like to be in the back seat long distance, you would need to have no tendency to claustrophobia at all to hack it.
I have not got used to the ride, hard to describe, but "boing, boing" covers it. The whole car seems to go up and down rather than the front then the back. Bouncy.
The tiny little diesel is free revving, quite punchy and has NO discernable turbo lag. It is on song from idle...
I love this car - super satisfied
I bought this car new in 2013. It is so quiet and such a smooth ride. It is very spacious, particularly legroom, and the seats are very comfy. The seat warmer is great for cold Melbourne winters. Servicing at Essendon Hyundai has been a good experience but I did have one bad experience at Hyundai Roxburgh Park when they told me I needed a wheel alignment as they had analysed wear on my tyres. I declined as I had 4 brand new tyres fitted only 4 weeks prior. 7 years roadside assistance is great to have though I only needed it once recently when I...had a flat battery. I’ve had several friends keen to buy an ix35 after riding in mine, and two ended up buying Tucson because the ix35 is discontinued, replaced by the slightly larger Tucson. Road test it - you will love it.
We love our pre owned ix35
Even though this car has been discontinued it didn't stop me from wanting it. We looked at various different makes and models or cars but I was originally drawn to the ix35 and this is what I wanted to have. We cant make any complaints, it is quiet, has enough mod cons for us including an air con system that keeps us cool during the hot summers here in Perth. I am very happy with this car and would recommend for anyone to get one.
Almost everything about this car is great, it's reliable and very fuel efficient. I love the leather interior and smooth drive, not had any issues thus far except for the plastics on the dash ruining quite easily. Hyundai are known for their poor quailty plastics and leather so i hope it doesn't get much worse.
Could be better
Radio cuts out completely , and just goes blank with no sound.
Passenger window does not go down , I have to use the drivers side to put it down. It does go up from the passenger with though.
Great to drive though never had an issue with that. Love the interior
great little car
great little car misses has owned it for 4 years
haven't had any issues with it bought as a demo and currently has 150.000ks been servicing it myself since 80.000ks besides from the odd tyre sizs (bit expensive because its odd)
use it to haul alot of parts great room when backseats are folded down would buy one if you had a few kids or a baby because a pram shopping wouldnt fit..
was involved in a 3 car pile up me being the front i was stationery and hit by a jeep that was hit by a corola estimated at a 60kph impact while the airbags did not deploy the car was inspect and it only had minor damage the bumper was quite impressed with how it stood up the impact
Great car - never missed a beat.
I've had my ix35 for over three years now and it has never missed a beat. It is beautiful and quiet to drive, very comfortable to sit in and extremely reliable.
We take this car to the beach frequently, have our 40kg malamute dog in the back nearly every day, plus our one year old, and the interior still looks as good as new.
The only frustrating thing I have found is on the odd occasion, the Bluetooth doesn't sync properly, though that is a very small downside overall.
If I fill up with normal unleaded I get about 550kms to a tank, and if I fill up with premium I get over 600kms to a tank.
I have mine serviced through Hyundai and the average cost is about $260 or so.
Will definitely be keeping this car as long as I can.
