Disappointing customer service re cruise control
My Kona 2018 cruise control does Not hold its selected speed. Set at 103 and it can get up to 109 without any reason, ie travelling down hill. I have complained with the statement, “ because my Kona is bottom of the range, the cruise control is bottom of the range”.

Absolutely love this fun small SUV! I looked at all the Chinese offerings including the Haval H6 and MG ZST before looking at the Kona Active and I’m so glad I got the Kona instead of the other two. The Kona smarts just felt more tuned to Australian conditions. The Haval and MG need more refinement. The Kona is very economical to drive and love that you’re not forced to use the expensive premium R95 unleaded petrol. The only negative I can think of is the lack of a multi-band audio equaliser in the multimedia system and perhaps a smaller than average boot size. Other than that it’s just an amazing car to drive.

Our Kona is used daily for shopping and general driving. It is extremely economical. We get the car serviced by Hyundai as directed and there have never been any issues.

My daughter's daily driver, and my shopping trolley. Bought as a demonstrator. So easy to drive with great vision from a high seating position, and small enough to throw around is tight spaces. The rear view camera is a real boon as the rear window is a little small compared to most hatchbacks and compact sedans. The FWD 2.0 litre engine pulls this light weight mini SUV with gusto, and comfortably covers all city driving demands. The ride is firm giving a sporty feel, though the high centre of gravity counteracts this, but as far as SUVs go, th...
Read moreis is very close up there with the Europeans (my cousin has a BMW X1, my mate's wife has a Audi Q2 and my niece drives a MB GLA), but not as supple and confident, however at half the price.....I won't complain. All the creature comforts and safety features you'd expect nowadays though I found the Apple Car Play a bit hesitant and unwilling to connect sometimes. Seats 4 adults (or 5 if smaller, however any 6 footers better sit upfront. Seats are very comfortable, and the leather comparable to the BMW. Heads up display is good, lane departure, proximity warnings, auto braking.....this car is loaded with goodies. Car is just over 2 years old now, and hasn't had any issues apart from the tyre pressure monitoring system went on the fritz, and it's adaptive headlights with auto levelling & cornering, stopped working. scheduled servicing is nominal at around $200 a throw. These little issues will be fixed under the 5 year, unlimited klm warranty when out of lockdown.Purchased in June 2019 at Suttons for $37,999.

Drives good on the road has that extra zip needed for highway driving. Coasts along on big trips. Smooth ride. Love how the seats wrap around my back making me feel secure. I love all the safety features as well. Fuel wise I get 700+kms per tank fill. It’s roomy for me but my back seat passengers say there isn’t enough room. Only because they are all tall and long legged. But I don’t care cos for me it’s perfect

I bought my Kona a couple of months ago and it has been great. However the windscreen was cracked by a stone and it has been a NIGHTMARE getting a new windscreen for it. It has to come from Perth to Melbourne. And it will take 1 - 2 weeks. I was promised twice by Customer Care that I would be given an ETA for the screen. No response! I think my new Kona is a fine vehicle but there is no way I would recommend people buy one - Hyandai may not have parts if it breaks down, and Customer Care is useless.
UPDATE Now it's up from 1-2 weeks to 3 weeks. Hyandai, this is just plain ridiculous and unacceptable.

Took delivery 4 weeks ago, engine died on day 1 while driving, wouldn't start, had to be towed away. 2021 model.
Only had around 50 k's on clock. Was in service centre for 2 weeks. Customer "care" was disastrous, Hyundai Roadside Assist operator was quite rude & unhelpful - had no concept of empathy. Issue could be with the ?immobilizer, ? transponder ? fuel pump ? Electrical connection issues. I hadn't driven a kilometer. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. What concerns me is that I haven't been able to get anything definitive or concrete as to what is wrong. It seems I've purchased a riddle on 4 wheels that even the manufacturer can't s...
Read moreolve, only speculate on. I will never feel confident or safe driving this car. Suffice to say that this has caused much stress & I will regret this choice in motor vehicle for a long time. Update Received car back 2 weeks ago after being in for repairs for 2 weeks. It appears to be working ok finally. I'm not crazy about the lane keeping assist. Even when I switch it off through settings it will turn itself back on when the car is restarted. Perhaps it could be useful when driving long distances. 99% of my driving is in the city & I find it annoying & distracting. I doubt that I will ever feel good about this car - my confidence in it is still close to nil. Was promised a mechanical report but still waiting. Lodged a complaint with Hyundai but have heard nothing. Focus seems to be on honing marketing practices. Would be better to focus on making a much better car! Promised that the 1st 3 services would be free because of all this trouble (1st service is free anyway), but again have heard nothing. Lots of excuses but very little meaningful dialog & even less follow-up action. Communication from Hyundai & the dealership in general has been inaccurate & poor. My next car will be a Honda or Toyota, they seem to do much better in the reliability stakes. UPDATE 13.6.21 Engine is now shuddering, feels like it's about to stop altogether. Engine Malfunction Indicator is now appearing. Big question.....have I just been unlucky with this particular car or is there a systemic flaw with this model? I have a crazy busy life as it is, this is the last thing I need atm. The car now has only 1778km on the odometer, if you are reading this & are thinking of buying 2021 Kona - I would strongly urge you NOT to.Purchased in April 2021 at Westpoint Autos for $28,900.

This car would be a 4.5 star rating EXCEPT for the disappointing performance in 1st and 2nd gear while in sports mode. The car short shifts at less than 2000 revs which is very annoying. Hyundai service (Hobart,Tas) today said this cannot be rectified. After 3rd gear, she drives beautifully. If you want a zippy sporty feeling car your only option is to manually shift it in 1st and 2nd gear.

Great features and nice to drive. I've only previously owned small cars, not an SUV, and the interior and boot of this car are less spacious than my previous cars.
The positioning of the headrest is too high if you're 5'3 or shorter. The headrest sticks out from the seat and the bottom part of the headrest (which should be in line with the neck/base of the skull) hits the top of my head, so the only way to drive the car is with my back not touching the seat at all. If I were in a car accident, being thrown back against the headrest would cause my head to be tilted downward and snap my neck. If you're short, avoid this car.

I work nightshift and have both freeway and dark winding country road to drive each night, and I always feel safe and comfortable in my Kona. I like the layout of the dash display, media system and steering wheel controls, my seat and seatbelt are comfortable and I can see clearly ahead of me which is important due to wildlife on the road. I love the feel of driving this car, it handles so nicely and it's an absolute joy to drive. Good on fuel, and excellent air-conditioning and sound system as well, which was important to me as music is es...
Read moresential for me during night driving. I love the design and look of my car and have received a lot of compliments about how nice it looks. Only thing I don't like is the space saver spare tyre, but it wasn't enough of an issue to stop me from buying the Kona, and I have absolutely no regrets. Boot space is more than adequate for my needs, my family is grown now and it's really only me using the car so it suits me very nicely.Purchased in September 2020 for $21,000.
Purchased car from a dealer as a demo model in their showroom in 2018,this car is a great little car. However for a car that is only 2 years old and gets well looked after the black paintwork around the door frame has already faded and bubbled badly. Also it has rust flecks which have appeared on the bonnet, after inspection they say it is from welding which I questioned the original quality of the duco considering I have 2 other white family cars kept and used in the same way as the Kona. I will definitely look closer when buying my next car. Very slow process in repairs being carried by the dealership.

Took ages to decide on a new small SUV. Drove the Mazda and Corolla but the Hyundai Kona stood out for its fast take off from 0kph.
I travel interstate frequently so needed a car that was economical but fast when really needed like overtaking on the open road. The Kona has never struggled when overtaking as the turbo charged 1.6 L engine is amazing. I was reluctant to get such a small engine but the turbo makes all the difference.
Happy with all finishes.
Only downsides are the space saver spare tyre and the small boot. I punctured a tyre in th...

I have purchased this car as a replacement for a #Lemon several months ago. While I had some teething issues with the immobiliser and factory damage, the warranty process is much better than their competitors.
Hyundai- I really appreciate the support you provided getting the warranty claims done when the Dealership gave me the runaround.
This car is my daily driver.
