My cat's water consumption increased dramatically
I usually feed my 6 year old cat either Hills Oral Care or Royal Canin Oral dry food, however I thought I would try a cheaper option for a change as they are both a chicken variety and because it was being purchased at a pet store it must be good quality. I purchased the IAMS Healthy Adult Original with Chicken - 3 kg dry food. The Pet Stock Sales Assistant advised that IAMS is a very good brand and that it would be fine for my cat. Upon opening the packet I noticed the biscuits were much smaller than the Hills or the Royal Canin and were ra...ther flat. My cat didn't seem to mind them though and usually cleaned up his bowl. Then I started noticing his water bowl needed filling every day and that he was making a lot more trips to it and also I was cleaning out 5 - 6 clumps of urine from his litterbox rather than his usual 2 or 3. "Salt" was the 8th ingredient on the packet, so this was obviously causing his excessive thirst. I was so concerned that at his annual check-up the vet did a blood glucose test as I thought he may have become diabetic, but thankfully this was not the case. He is now back on his regular Hills Oral Care and his drinking habits have returned to normal. I guess this proves you get what you pay for.
One of the few reconstituted meat wet foods my cat will eat
Although she will only eat the salmon one in the orange packet. We have tried a number of wet foods and she tends not to eat spam like foods. She has no issues with the whole fish types which are generally more expensive. With this Iams, she loves the gravy, and deigns the remaining spam meat able to be eaten at a later time after her gravy entree. She's never turned her nose up at it, which is good, as I don't know what else I would try if she won't eat this.
Loves the Chicken But Doesn't Like one of the Fish one's
I find my cats have always loved the chicken variety of this but not one of the fish ones. So I just stick with the chicken one. My cats always look so healthy on this product. It's good to keep it fresh by rolling the top of the bag over. My cat's appreciate this being fed to them 'fresh' like the bag has just been opened. Rolling the top of the bag over and pegging it with a peg or two really helps keep this fresh and I use the 3kg bag which lasts two cats a few months. I use this in addition to some wet food which I feed only in the mor...ning but this Iams is provided to them on a plate at all times and they are not overweight at all - quite muscly and fit actually! They both have nice shiny coats. With previous cats, I found when I stopped feeding them this product they wouldn't look so well. It just seems to have that special something! It's quite expensive to purchase at first but it lasts really well and it smells good to me too! Cat's look very healthy & satisfied. Cat's love to eat it the chicken variety! I've noticed a new variety which is a organic type of vege one. Haven't tried it yet. My cat's have never liked the fishy varieties of Iams. I stick with the chicken one now.
Even my vet asks what I feed my 5yr old cats because they are in such good condition (Eyes, teeth, coat). Although this is one of the best quality cats foods available it actually works out cheaper than standard brands such as whiskas (wet or dry food). Let alone the premium mini serves! Especially because there is no wastage. Dry foods are pracical and fuss free. Only water required to be available. I do feed the cats some premium priced mini cans as a treat but they only want a serve between them and mainly prefer the two dry food brands I bu...y from the pet shop or vet. A top quality food! One of the two dry foods brands my cats enjoy. And they won't eat most wet foods or (presevative free) fresh meat. Cats generally don't overeat this food. Food can be left out all day and smells less than wet food. Good value for money. A $36 3 kg bag lasts about 3 weeks for two full sized cats. More flavours required.
I have occasionally bought this cat food when it has been on special at the pet stores and I have been impressed with the quality of it. The biscuits are definitely of a higher quality than supermarket bough cat food and my cat will always eat this food when I serve it. It is more expensive but you do get what you pay for in regards to pet food and this is one of the better brands. I like that you can buy it in very large bags so it works out more affordable and lasts longer.
Good quality, can buy in large bags.
Iams is pet food from an enormous company (P&G) with misleading advertisements while sponsoring vet schools teaching vets to recommend this product. Iams is actually a cheaply made food with a huge price tag. It is no better than supermarket food, but double the price... This is not worth it. The ingredients are just like supermarket food anyways! My cats didn't like this "super-premium" food, stopped eating it after a few bites. If you are splurging on your cat/s, you would be better off buying Royal Canin.
gives you a feeling of completeness as you know that " the vet recommended this "
price>ingredients, cats ate a bit but then stopped
I used to work at a vet and was able to buy products cheaper so I put my cats on Iams after having them on a supermarket brand, I found my cats quickly got sick of the taste and I was having to buy the small 900g bags to alternate the flavours reguarly, having 3 cats this was very uneconomical. Though this food is high quality I found the high price of it to not be worth it. My cats are not fussy which is why I was very suprised they stopped liking the flavour so often. Whilst on the Iams I didnt really notice a difference in my cats.
Pricey, Cats stoped eating it
