Why fix something that wasn't broken?I had a fritheten about 3 years ago that I brought second hand but it was actually new. The people had just brought it but needed to return overseas. That version of the Fritheten was GREAT! SOFT! COMFY! EASY TO ASSEMBLE. I recently brought another one thinking that they would be the same.
I was so wrong.
My first one required NO SCREWS! It just slotted together. Easy to assemble and swap sides. It also had an arm rest on the other side unlike the new design. I noticed that I feel like the new one is far less stable- as in the chaise with stora... Read morege feels like it bows if you lay on it for extended periods, the prior definitely did not. Also, within a short period, the base of the 3 seat couch, the wood cracked and proceeded to break with no ikea support, 10 year warranty my left foot. I had to get a metal brace to screw it together. Ikea don't replace that part apparently. The material is easily stained and very difficult to clean and maintain. I wish they had of stuck to the last design. This new one is crap!
Excellent sofa bed; tips; ways to upgrade and a requestOurs has been used many times now for sleeping and watching tv
Really comfortable sofa bed and has so much room; we love it. Easily accomodates 2 people for sleeping or heaps of space for 1 person.
- comes in 3 boxes that easily fit through our front door and hallways
- assembly was straight forward, though make sure you have 2 people (for tipping it onto it's back, bringing it back to the ground and then moving the unit into place)
- easily converts to a bed and back, without the use of springs
- you can use a removable sofa bed... Read more
The Sofa Bed bed was difficult to assembleI have purchased many flat pack items of furniture, and usually I can rely on Ikea to be hassle free. Unfortunately with this item, one of the bolt holes in the timber frame did not line up with the corresponding nut. This was of course in the most awkward spot! Luckily, I had my drill with me so I was able to enlarge the hole, which allowed the bolt to screw into the nut (see photo). This is not the usual Ikea standard, and speaks to sloppy construction at the factory end. I would not have been able to complete construction of the sofa bed, ha... Read mored I not enlarged the hole as required with my own tools. To return this item back to Ikea, or wait for a service call, would have been very inconvenient. We also didn't appreciate the unusual spiders that were found as we unpacked the various boxes!
Most comfortable sofa bed everWe bought this sofa 3 years back when we first moved in to our apartment and it has been the most used, most comfortable, most useful piece of furniture for us. I've personally tried a variety of sofa beds and nothing has been more comfortable than Friheten. Storage is a bonus. If you live in a small apartment, this is a must buy because of its durability, versatility and affordability. Bonus would be if we could wash the fabric covering on this one. Show details
Bromstad Black cover tears easilyWe love the look of the sofa bed and structurally it’s awesome. 2.5 years in its still in great shape - firm and comfortable.
We use it in a study/guest room. It’s sat on about once a week by two kids and slept on for a few nights every 3 months by two adults.
We got the Bromstad Black - the vinyl cover. Easy to wipe down but after three months it started ripping at the seams. Across the seat tops so it’s really visible. And those tips continued so it’s really ugly now. It’s a shame as the sofa looks new everywhere else.
I contacted ikea a... Read morend they were really unhelpful. Fair trading told me the sofa is not fit for purpose but ikea are refusing to look at it. It’s frustrating that I need to take it through fair trading to get it fixed or replaced. Maybe I got a dud?
Functional, comfortable - product very good. Assembly service service partner - not so muchIkea product is very functional and performs as advertised. Aesthetically a good sofa bed and simple design. Does not crowd living space.
Main point of contention is the furniture assembly service Install2u, IKEA's trusted partner. Suspected that the customer service line is indeed little more than a messaging service, and Install2u itself did not return my calls after two seperate tries and messages left with their messaging service on the phone. Website information on IKEA also notes Install2u will contact customers within four hours (whi... Read morech could be reasonably assumed to be business hours) but this was not my experience. The only interaction from install2u was an automatically generated email from Install2u via a third party email/IT provider service with generic information on what the customer should expect, but such an email was redundant if install2u's technicians/contractors did not first make contact with the customer, and they did not make contact with me. In the end, I found it was not beneficial to continue to attempt to reach out to Install2u, who had the responsibility to make contact first, and declined to follow up or use Install2u's service. I left some customer feedback at the email address that was provided to Install2u to lodge a complaint, that I am fully aware may be either lost, or simply ignored. IKEA to their credit also advise Airtasker as an alternative, which is where I went in the end and a professional and great contracting team from there were able to assist me.
Good buyI was looking for a decent yet stylish sofa bed for a very long time. So purchased this (again). Yup second one of these because I really couldn’t find any decent sofa beds that didn’t look cheap and flimsy. Show details
Firm spacious luxuryFor the past 10 months, never had any seriously expensive car service and repair bills over $300 for my 2004 Ford Falcon Sedan car, and that's when I decided to get a sofa bed way more than $500 to find out if it was worth the price I paid for since purchasing it online in April 2019 and received next day truck delivery in the afternoon. Assembly in my middle age was easy although I needed to watch some You Tube videos to see where everything goes as it took more than 2 hours to put the whole thing together by myself. It feels like a luxury fir... Read morem queen-size bed in a small rental unit lounge, especially if you weigh 100kg plus, and there should be no sagging pot-hole spots with this black leather-like tough surface material. There is a gap wide enough to put your hand in the middle section of the underframe so you can pull it out towards you and then pull the straps both at the same time to lift the bed section in place. The straps can be hidden now that you know how to pull out the edge of the underframe between the gap. Just a large black wool blanket is comfortable enough as a mattress topper especially if keeping warm on cold nights. The three black leather-like cushions also act as pillows for comfort without being too warm if it was cotton. There is enough storage space for my collection of 2K/ 4K bluray movies and CD albums, as the sofa bed sits in front of the LG 75 inch 4K TV attached to a black steel floor stand, movement-mobile on a furniture dolly.
