This is the most handy piece of furniture i have brought for my daughter's room we got the 16 box unit and it makes her room tidy and hides all the toys :) only down fall is we have has to attatch it to the wall after having a scare with little one climbing buy lesson learnt thats what the brackets were for
Didn't even take long to put together
Fits the bill
Think this might be the new version of the Expedit range. We had looked at other cheap furniture, including Bunnings which had similar shelving, but it was so tacky as the faux laminate on it was actually paper. Decided to try Ikea and bought this in white with a couple of drawers and cupboard doors. Brought it home and husband was able to put it together, no worries. He was actually impressed with the precision of the whole thing. It is very lightweight though. Only made of super aerated chipboard, which I suppose cuts down on the weight as fa...r as freight goes. It was supposed to come with eight foot pads, floor protectors, but only had four in the box. Luckily we had some left over from another lot we had when we moved into our new home, so it wasn't a huge problem for us. Don't know how it will go if it gets wet. Certainly wouldn't recommend it as every day family furniture. Especially not for children's rooms, don't think it could take the rough and tumble and spills. But for us, two adults, using it in an office like environment, it fits the bill.
Questions & Answers
Does anyone know if and when these particular Kallax inserts will be available in Australia or Perth? Item number is 204.237.20 Kallax insert with 1 shelf 33 x 33. It splits each cube into two. You can find them on overseas Ikea but I can’t seem to find them here. Thank you.
Have not seen them in Perth. The insert available is a single unit with a hinged door or the insert is drawers. Products keep changing. Here today gone tomorrow.
Can I place one8 Kallax cube on top of the other
Yes, I suppose you could but the surface is quite slippery. A piece of rubber non-skid material would ideally sandwich the two together. Wouldn't want a cat to jump on the top cube and send it flying. It would be better to buy the larger model.
I also am a female but quite savvy and able to use drill/ driver etc but the kallax inserts are dreadfully hard and do not fit in as ‘inserts’ easily. Just problems plus plus especially with attaching insert to frame. Also drawer inserts are very variable. Drawer fronts are not sturdy, drop forward, drew item for sides does not insert all the way in hole so cover on side does not fit.
Attaching insert is not as illustrated in method pamphlet.
Yes. Same experience. I had 8 inserts to fit. Got easier. I found drilling in, reversing the screw and pushing in again a few times helped screws in. Had to use electric drill. Worth the trouble in the end. I would recommend paying Ikea to install inserts next time. Horrible job.
