A special place !!!
I also am a current student who has studied at two other colleges and unis. I have found the teaching and especially the administration staff to be extremely accommodating on the Melbourne campus. I was once before a micronism in a massive sea of learning.... alone. But now I feel attending Ikon I am a nurtured being with a name, gaining unique knowledge, unique experiences in a unique space, So thank you !!. I feel privileged to have been accepted into this degree and being on this journey with me and to one day working in a special unique industry. :)
The teaching is good, but the admin and support staff make it not worth it.
As other reviewers mentioned - the admin and support staff are difficult to deal with. Calls aren't returned, emails aren't answered (or are responded to with none of the questions I asked addressed, making me wonder if my email had been read at all before the reply). I often received conflicting information on requirements for assignments.
The impression I got was of a lot of internal disorganisation, and that while the teachers did care - the admin staff did not, and the struggles I encountered made it not worth the money I paid. I wouldn't recommend going here.
Misleading and very distasteful
Ikon is happy to take absolutely no accountability for their actions. As always. The worst communication. They pulled support at the beginning of our prac placement without telling anyone, changed the timetable without telling anyone, no one responds or writes back to you. Most teachers are completely incompetent and underqualified. Not to mention inexperienced. For a "leading psychotherapy institute" they are very below par.
Life changing education
Studying the Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Counselling has quite easily been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I have always been interested in working with people and mental health, there were plenty of RTOs to choose from and at the time IKON was to me a bit of a gamble. I really didn’t know what to expect apart from having been a client of a Psychotherapist whom had studied with Ikon. I knew I was going to learn to be a therapist, which for me would have been enough. What I didn’t realise was that I was going to learn from indivi...duals, from content and from experiences that would completely transform not only my relationships with others, but also with myself. Life skills that I will use forever. I’m much more confident, competent and have been able to take my level of conversation and engagement with ANYONE to levels I never thought I could. The only negative experience I dealt with at times were the opinions and tantrums of other students who for reasons I can’t understand, only wanted their demands and wishes granted instantly. People would try to get me to rally with them to stand against “the institution” with complaints and criticism that they wanted to claim as typical, but personally I just couldn’t condone their characterisations as typical at all. From my experience, the same students who wanted instant results from the institute were also the same students who were months and months behind in their course work. I wasn’t a model student at all, but I didn’t blame Ikon for what I didn’t do... I now run a successful private practice as a Psychotherapist. I love what I do and thanks to ikon I learnt how to “do” it myself. If you want things done ‘for’ you, then don’t do this course. If you want to learn life altering content and become a competent communicator and a professional who can do things for yourself? Then sign up now.

Each to his own
It’s a shame to hear these reviews. I worked like hell to do well in both the Art Therapy and Counselling courses. Yep, I came across some temporary obstacles just like one would anywhere but I knew it was up to me to get on with it. I did lots of homework to deepen my understanding of art Therapy in particular. I now have an amazing job where I’m respected for the knowledge I’ve learned using both disciplines. My success was my business, no one else’s. All the best everyone.
Greedy, money grabbers, worst admin ever.
I studied a diploma of transpersonal art therapy having completed 90% of the course. Throughout my study with Ikon the administration team in particular was horrible. They do not know how to communicate and can't seem to get back to students in a timely manner. It has taken me atleast 3 years to get my question answered about how i go about finishing the rest of my degree. Now they tell me they do not offer the course anymore and there is no way i can complete it! I am still determined to finish my qualification, but all they want me to do is study a completely different course and take more of my money.
A low quality study experience
It felt important to submit a review here as this company look all wonderful on the shiny brochures and website. Their information is very deceptive.
I studied an Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling in 2017. Many facilitators were incompetent with the counselling teaching material and often late to class, late returning from lunch, they basically didn't seem to care about our time. Most were very poor facilitators - which led to situations where student safety was in doubt. The administration team were rude and slow to respond to ...inquiries. IKON are trying to expand and benefit from government assistance via loans. That was evident in their lack of response to critical issues. Not to mention many of the promises in the brochure (such as accreditation with counselling bodies) was later retracted - you don't get what you sign up for. Most (if not all) of the students in my class were shocked by the poor learning experience and only 'stuck with it' to at least obtain the diploma. Here I am with a $20,000 student loan to pay off. I wish that you find a better option for your future study.
Administration team really lets down this organisation. With the changes in VET this organisation has had to make some changes, but at the cost of students.
* Poor communication with Students, when changes are made that effect students, little if or no effort to communication these changes to students in a timely manner.
* Time table changes and often students not properly notified, or changes made less than 48 hours notice.
* Some but not all Teaching staff not fully covering course material and students are often felt not heard or rec...
